I don't think I would call it a bunch of drivers. These are optimized drivers like the ones you have in the PSvita (or consoles) and that's why the Vita is still capable to run good graphics with outdated hardware. That's the whole thing why consoles last that long. I mean if you take a multiplatform game and put it on the vita and an iOS device with equal hardware, the vita would outperform the iOS device easily. That's also the reason why it's A7+ only I guess. Yes, more fragmentation between newer and older devices but less fragmentation between devices which support Metal and for which the drivers were especially written for. Just my opinion.
@Nekku,I hope so too but not making it available for older devices is a big mistake it would mean that devs wilk have to code differently for older devices and newer devices if they want to get acceptable performance.I don't see why apple left out older devices honestly. Tato might be able to explain it better on the graphics thread.
That's the plans yes, as soon as it's ready to be launched on the store, we'll announce a final release date. Hopefully* soon. As for Metal, we'll provide support to it in an update as soon as it's released to public. I got an invitation to last WWDC, Metal (besides being a driver optimization) it's also a lightweight API (OGL is order of magnitudes fatter and slower than Metal btw) that does more than OGLES3. It allows you more drawcalls but if your game is fill rate bound (or anything to do with GPU), it won't help, metal is just CPU speed and optimizations, not GPU. Cheers,
I suspected the same,I doubt there are any games right now which are bottleneck by cpu or even gpu for that matter.Shame it could have been useful for older devices A7 doesn't really require it all that much.Still it's good apple have shown interest and have made some gaming rated advances.
Metal would be something very interesting in a near future, when A7+ hardwares will be available to everyone. My take is that Apple just want to get rid of OpenGL while offering a more powerful, simple and modern API. And I'm pretty sure it will also get implemented on Mac desktops later on (iOS being the first one to take advantage of it). I have to read more about it but I think* there's a hardware cap that doesn't allow it on A5/A6 devices. In other words, it won't work well and/or leverage all the power on devices that doesn't support GLES3+ specific functions (geometry intancing, compute shaders). We have some plans for it and will take advantage of it, as soon as it's available we'll provide support to it as a free update. Cheers,
Question about the releasing game I have been waiting for this since the announcement (i was still playing dead strike on my 3gs back then), and now to hear that it's finally about to be released I am overjoyed. Hoepfully this is the full game and not episode-based (I'm guessing alternate realities was skipped in favor of releasing the full game). Can someone please confirm?? Thanks in advance.
Forgotten Memories : Alternate Realities is the version we are about to release but it's ~7-10 hours lengthy episode. It can be easily considered a whole game. Upcoming episodes are in the works.
That's great to hear Now just a little wait until the release, hopefully. If the game is half the quality shown in the trailers, It will easily take over the survival horror throne (and a few others) on the app store. What always ruined such games for me a little bit was the low quality of the weapon models and no reload animations (magazine dropping out, moving sliders etc.). Do you have any details on that, tato?
I'm one of the tester, the quality shown in the trailers are nothing compared to the game, you ain't see nothing already, trust me,it's a true survival horror experience, and the graphics, with all the effects on,on my iPhone 5 it runs at 60 FPS..
Would you say it's potentially the best ios game ever? P.S I just hope we can read memos, cutscene are all good but I enjoy snippets, written or vocal.Games like Amnesia really were a treat to play because of these,Even Skyrim had so many books it's almost like a mini novelin itself.
I want say potentially it's The best iOS True Survival Horror Game,in it's genre,it's The best, there nothing on The App Store like FM,but obvious i can't compare FM with other games of different genre, cause it's an old school Survival Horror.. The others answers, sorry but i'm not allowed to'talk about, but don't worry, you're The first to' know all about The game
I can't comment on the price but it will be one fair premium price. No IAPs, everything is unlockable while playing and/or beating the game. Lot of procedural gameplay elements and replayabilities. And well, the demo will be free.
I understand beta testers are allowed a very limited room to talk about, thanks for the reply.I can't wait to play this any longer just have to decide between ipad3,5s or vita.I'll buy both the versions probably just to support these kind of games.
