Ok, now only the fact remains that games not running at the full resolution of the retina display look awful.
1 Pixel = scaled up to 4. This is a part screenshot of a game that doesen't support the retina display (or iOS 4 as a matter of fact. Ubisoft, DAMN YOU!) As you can see it is extreemly pixelated. The screenshot itself was not upscaled.
Send me your 3GS. I just happend to have sold my iPod Touch 3 as is probably logical, since I have no need to have 2 devices. What I can do is take a screenshot of a retina display supporting game, downscale it to 320x480 and scale it up again...
Something that you must know, the GPU and CPU on iDevices4 are all tied up on the same die, wish means the data transfer is faster but also the bandwidth is also greater, the cpu cache is doubled and the cpu is 200 mhz faster than 3GS. Even if your game is running in 960*640 it will look better and run faster than the 3GS version. Keep in mind that even if iPhone4 have doubled in resolution, the screen size is the same, so you are able see more details. If your game uses the standard mid resolution (non retina display) it should look (at last) as the 3GS version but due to higher quality screen display it will always look better on the iDevices 4. Cheers,
The first image is an HD image, mostly anti-aliased, The second image looks sharper/pixelated and is a normal behavior due to the high ress screen. The fact is that, a game with normal res in the iDevice4 will always look better than the 3GS version.
Well my point is, if you think it's ok to not give a game retina display support because it then still looks as good as on a 3GS then there is something wrong. Also, it sucks when you come from the beautiful highres homescreen into something a little bit blockyer.
Exactly, there's no reason to have mid ress on an iDevice4 game. Unless the amount of texel is pretty high eating all your fill-rate. Also, having low ress with anti-aliasing on is a good way to improve quality without slowing down the system or eating your fill-rate.
Yeah making a 480 by 320 game on a 4th generation device with anti-aliasing will give you near Retina Display quality, but near medium resolution frame rate. That's what I would like all developers to do. Make 320P games, but add extra effects, and details, instead of just making 640P games with older graphics.
Hello guys, Some 3D artworks from our main character "Rose". Watch out, high poly and low poly model from the game are mixed up. Low poly model, normal mapped. Enjoy.
I would also like to announce that Forgotten Memories will feature a multiplayer coop horror mode (through 3G/Online services) from day one! At launch! You will be able to play anywhere with your GameCenter friends! You will also be able to kill monsters, solve puzzles/clues together, and follow the storyline with online friends! Hello guys, It's me again. I just want to let you know, that our team is growing really quick and we are adding more stuff to the game to make it the best of the very best survival horror for the iPhone platform. We have now 8 guys, working full time and 3 on part time. We are adding a huge amounts of levels to play, the result, the game now have 6 very huge floors fully loaded with creepy atmospheric rooms/places! It also contains more outside levels, yay! I wont get too much on details on what kind of levels are being added or if we spec to add more in the near future, I'll keep the surprise for later. We have also improved the gameplay a lot, you'll see a lot of new stuff never seen in a survival horror game! Eg: Solving a real puzzles, dynamically with a coop friend over the net. Let other friends follow your progress, even if they aren't playing with you! A lots of horror achievements to unlock!!! You will also be able to do quests/sub-quests and even a chain of quests in the game that removes the linear gameplay often seen in survival horror classics. But lets just not call them Quests, its sounds like an RPG game, (we have here a super survival horror game), lets call them "objectives or missions", that contains sub-objectives and chain of objectives. Some of them will not be as easy to find out or figure out as you must search for clues and see whats the next ting to do but you clearly have a lots of freedom to do stuff the way you feel better. ^^ King regards from Psychoz Interactive team. Cheers,
