That 2 billion score is crazy. I'm in the top 5 in all three modes. My best score in standard mode is just over 2 million, and I gave that game up from fatigue (with 8 lives left) after playing for an embarrassing amount of time. Like previously mentioned, either that person has figured out a way of getting points that no one else has, or something else. I just don't see how that score is possible in one sitting. Whatever, though. I don't usually add to these discussions, but my real reason for posting is to wonder (as someone else has already done) why more people are not playing this game? It's priced too low for what it is, has everything people always ask for with these kinds of games (gamecenter support, developer that is responsive and active in these types of forums, etc...), has received positive press online and in print, and is, in short, as fun as iOS gaming gets. I don't know if the leaderboards reflect sales at all, but I can't believe that only 3500 people or so are playing this. Games like this always make me wish there was a feature in the app store that allowed making a donation to the developer because it's worth more than it is priced, or a name your own price structure or something. I show this game to everyone I know, but beyond that, what can you do? Maybe one day it will show my score out of 3 million players instead of 3000. That said, I can't wait for the update. The only thing I can be critical of is that once you figure out how to keep earning lives, it isn't that hard to play for a long time. I can't wait for a more challenging mode. Good stuff, buy this game.
Awesome, thanks! Could you DM me your iPad's UDID when you get a moment? (I haven't looked into Testflight yet.. how to find UDID if you don't already know: plug in ipad->load itunes->go to ipad 'summary' tab->click on serial number). I'll get back to you with a test version when it's time. Definitely. There's nothing like frantic fire-button mashing on an arcade game I'm going to try adding manual firing, but it will definitely need some tweaking to make it work, 'cos it'll change the game - e.g., it will somewhat remove the element of planning-how-to-not-shoot-yourself. I'm not sure exactly what I'll do yet...possibly an iCade specific game mode. (this will also work nicely for PC/Mac versions with keyboard or joystick control) Aw thanks heaps weggert! I think a lot of it comes down to marketing/promotion. I haven't spent any money on, or put much effort into those. It's very much a weak point of mine. I find it exhausting and I hate doing it. I swear it takes as much time as actually coding the game! Mad props to all those devs who are good at it. Also, Apple haven't felt like featuring Forget-Me-Not (except very briefly the first few days it was out), though I don't know if that would make much difference.. It's not a very shiny, modern looking app...fairly "niche" I guess.. But! I'm actually really happy with how well it's selling - and over the moon about the reviews obviously. If I was trying to run a profitable business, paying artists and coders and promotions people, spending lots of time and money on making a game..then I guess this would be a tiny number of sales. But for me, sitting at home making everything myself, it's a surprisingly large number. Makes me very inspired to keep making games. The leaderboards show only about 3/5ths of the sales BTW. Anyway, glad you like the game, and thanks for the comments and for showing it to your friends! Much appreciated
Oh yeah, I didn't think of those implications... that would make a lot of sense- just normal joystick control for old modes so there's no direct impact on gameplay/leaderboards, etc, and then a new mode for button mashing! Excellent!
This game looks bad but it's really cool and addictive ! But a question : didn't know how to get power by sliding walls, It didn't affect my avatar, any tips ?
Hey guys! I'm sad to say I still haven't had much time to work on the update.. other work and life keep getting in the way. Still got lots of plans for it though, so I hope once it comes out it'll have been worth the wait. There will be iCade support. Sorry I'm so slow at this... just need a couple weeks to spend working on it full time! I *might* release a mini-update (which only adds iCade support) before the big update....will see how I go.... Also hoping to release PC and Mac ports sooner rather than later.... I'm working on those right now actually Jetjet: Glad you're liking it! The wall grinding move...it's kind of hard to explain To grind a wall you basically just swipe towards it while moving along next to it, exactly the same as if you were changing direction, except there's a wall in the way. (this means you can tell your character to turn a corner before you reach that corner). Once you start grinding the wall you'll see some sparks flying out the side of your character, and hear a "scraping" sound which rises in pitch. You have to keep grinding for awhile before you'll notice any visual change. A red aura will slowly appear around your guy, and after some time you'll start flashing "silver" coloured, and a new sound will start playing.. this means you're powered up and can bash through enemies. If you stop grinding, your power will gradually run down again. (and of course, if you keep grinding you'll start flashing red, and eventually explode) Did you see this video I made showing how I control it? That might help...
Man, how do you not have this? It's brilliant....one of the 3 best arcade games I've played this year, the others being Hard Lines and Deathsmiles. Do yourself a big favor and just get it!
Wow thanks a lot for explaining it to me ! It sounds well now ! Continue the good job with updates cause the more I play it the more I love it !!!
The controls have grown to me now and I love the game but maybe a cool update would be add more control options like hard lines does it, three different ways that all work. But really just playing the game a few times and you get the controls down fast.
this game is awesome i really love everything about this game even my mom was playing this game i posted the video on facebook pretty addicting my friends, their apps are always Universal love that also Nyarlu hard working developer you wont regret purchasing his games i bought forget-me-not and MSD very awesome i guarantee you, cant wait to see future updates on your games and i hope to see another game by you!
This is one of the best games on the app store. Nice minimalist approach with crazy action at times. I scored a healthy 2.6M in standard mode, but haven't yet broke 70k in survival. I can't believe somebody scored 2B! Question for dev: are some of the sound effects modeled specifically after certain vintage games? I'm hearing some sounds from atari 800 games such as Zombies and Shamus, and it REALLY takes me back. Anyway, thanks for the awesome game.
Haha, thanks, glad you like it idragoncool! I got my mum to have a go but she was terrible at it Thanks a lot MisterEd! None of the sounds were consciously modeled on specific games, they're all just my attempts to capture a sound that seems right for the in-game action... (obviously informed from my childhood of playing 8-bit games). I think it's very cool that you hear influence from some Atari games - I never played games on any Atari computers or consoles, only C64 and a bit of NES..
This game looks good, but i have one question.... this screenshot if from PC or an iPhone? Also, from the TA frontpage: "Fans of the iOS game need not feel left out, however. All of these changes are headed to iOS in a coming update, along with full iCade support! Brandon tells me that the controls have been rewritten for eight-directional joysticks (which the PC version supports, but not yet the Mac) and he feels the game will work quite nicely on the iCade. Touchscreen controls will, of course, be maintained in the iOS version, but with a few speed tweaks to prevent things from getting too fast to play."
Just got the craziest level on the Mac version, about 20-30 enemies instaspawned and I had no chance! Click for huge image Thanks again and great work on the freeware version, can't wait for the iOS update.
That shot is from the iPhone version. PC version looks exactly the same though (except it has more kinds of fruit and enemies and such).. the only difference in the look on PC/Mac is, you can run it at higher resolutions / different aspect ratios etc.. iOS version hasn't actually been updated yet.. sorry i'm so slow with that... it'll be along eventually... meanwhile, hope you enjoy the desktop version. hahah, argh! yeah it can get a bit nightmarish if you run it at really high resolution. if it's just TOO MUCH try turning on "chunky mode" in the options menu - it upscales everything to 3x (instead of the 2x default), which can make for smaller (but more zoomed in) levels. can make it a bit easier to handle, unless your monitor is *super high* res... (or just try running at a lower resolution. my favoured size is 1024x768, maybe because that's the size the game was originally designed for, it feels right..). i'll probably add some more scaling options so you can make the windowed mode bigger or set it to 1x/2x/3x/4x scale etc on fullscreen... BTW, here's a really cool and in-depth video someone made of the PC version (this is you right Bridget?). Shows what it's all about for anyone unfamiliar..
Is it possible to establish whether the player is using an iCade and have separate leaderboards? I'll just delete if not. There's no point trying to compete with someone with a joystick if I'm using touch controls. The iCade is going to ruin leaderboards on iOS for loads of games if this isn't an option.
Yep it is possible to, and I will, do that. iCade will have its own mode with its own scoreboard. (The current iOS version of Forget-Me-Not has no iCade support yet, that's coming in an update.. so all the game center scores there now are from touchscreens.)
Great news, thanks Otherwise it's like console driving games, where it's just impossible for a pad-player to compete with someone with a steering wheel controller.
