my score atm 127.746 -> 44. on All Time Leaderboard 1st is Adeysan with 23.775.209 ?!?! How can it be?!?! love this game
I really wanted to like this game due to all the praise it's getting, but I just don't see what all the fuss is about.
I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea. It seems like it'd go very well with the whole "player is just another creature" idea that's already in play. Right now, enemies can eat flowers and fruit.... depending on which enemies they are.... but while they can grab the potions, it doesnt DO anything to them. I'd love to see powered up versions for some of them based on picking up the red potions. I'm still trying to score well in Survival mode myself. I keep getting close to beating my previous score. And then something damn stupid happens, either something will explode on me, or I'll shoot myself. Argh. And curse those square jerks!
I'm guessing Adeysan did what a couple of the other extremely high scoring players have done, which is to find a level which is good for fruit collecting, and then stay on that level for a really long time. Don't worry, I'm going to make this much harder to do in the next update! And there'll be more incentive to keep moving on to the next level. Ooh thanks for that, not heard of that game before. Hard to tell exactly what it's like in the video but looks and sounds very cool.. I'll have to check that out on emulator.. Yes! Very cool idea. Definitely gonna put in something like that.
LOL my top score is 10019 after playing it for fifteen minutes or so. But slowly I get the hang of it (never liked Pac Man). Thanks for the hints here at tA. BTW thanks for the "Game Center OFF" button and recording my top scores locally anyway. I wish more games would provide this.
I just played it in VICE. You've got nothing to worry about. Garden Wars may have lots of shooting and crazy hyperactive crap strewn throughout a maze, but the gameplay and graphics are frustratingly abstract. There are weird flashing things you can pick up, but they don't actually seem to do anything. Furthermore, the game is downright impossible in the later stages because eggs quickly hatch into spiders, which just as quickly transform into black widows which can't be killed or even repelled with your shots. Put bluntly, the game cheats like a bitch. It's like what would happen if Forget-Me-Not had been designed by the Marquis de Sade. Don't get me wrong; there's the seed of a great game here. Garden Wars could be serious competition to Forget-Me-Not with some tender loving care, but it would need a whole lot of it. Graphics that don't look like something an NES would spit up before you blew into the cartridge slot would help too. I've played some butt-ugly VIC-20 games before, but this takes the cake. You might want to try the game anyway out of curiosity... send me a PM and I'll hook you up. It might give you ideas for a Forget-Me-Not sequel, one with aggression rather than collection as the focal point.
I just run it with different chiptunes from time to time. A fantastic source is the Pause netlabel - http://www.iimusic.net ... but it's also great to play with sounds only since they are pretty important.
Hay nyarla: Why no savegame? Nothing burns me more than getting into the groove eating hella fruit and then having to quit to reply to a text or something. Can't wait for ver. 1.such and such!
I just wanted to chime in and say thank you for developing a wonderfully retro arcade game that has given me hours of fun and not filled up my iPhones storage lol. Tyvm.
How the hell is this not in the Top 200 on AppShopper, anyway? This needs promotion badly. All the positive reviews on, well, every site haven't sparked sales the way they should have. Maybe a temporary price cut with the next update will help?
Metalhead980 - no worries, and thanks! Glad you're enjoying it Yo bighemp.. yeah, sorry about that. I couldn't figure out how to do game saving properly, having never done anything like that before.. The lovely Madgarden has shown me a way to do it, but it'll involve restructuring a lot of code (because I stupidly didn't plan ahead!).. I will be attempting to get that working for the next update yeah! I am terrible at marketing/promotion. It totally does my head in... I swear it's way harder than the actual making of the game. I tried fairly hard to promote my last game and didn't achieve much.. so this time I put almost no effort into that... But.. FMN is selling splendidly from my POV! No complaints here. It took about 1 month to make, and has made more money in its first 3 weeks than I've ever earned in a month of full time work. This won't last of course, but that's fine. It's already been very much worth it, financially speaking... (satisfaction-wise, it's been completely amazing and magical for me!).. I just wanna keep on making games.
Take a look at 8bitcollective. A lot of the better-known chiptune artists are active there, and it's a good place to start if you're looking for one to contribute game music.
I would like to congrats the dev of this magnificent game. This game is perfect in every way possible. Its on my first screen and will stay there for a long time . I even tell my friends to buy it. I would love to see a sequel to this.
It would be awesome to have a Monster Encyclopedia. I used to love reading the instruction manuals for my old 8-bit games, reading about all the enemies, and something similar would make me very happy. Fantastic game!
Just noticed a small bug; a call came in and I hit the volume button to silence it. When I came back to the game, the sound had stopped working and I had to restart the app. Not sure if that happens to many games or not.
