"I guess it depends on the genres you play and the things you care about. I love originality and creativity (and couldnt care less about voice chat)." lena, exactly! "and it's so nice to be able to play this on my iPad mini while curled up on the couch." That for me is a big plus. Sitting in front of tv is nowhere as near as comfortable for me.
I enjoy all platforms, between my Xbox, ps vita, ds with flashcart and iPhone/iPad they all get some decent amount of game time! Sometimes I'm in the mood for a quick mobile game other times I'm in the mood for a console game! It all depends but I definitely love iOS gaming and gaming in general! Hell even my PS1 has had some action in the last month or so!!!
I grew up on consoles. So theres some credibility when i say i do value ios gaming more. In fact, its the primary device i do my gaming on. I just wish they had more triple AAA titles like you get on consoles.
My last real console was a PS2 and then I got an Xbox one recently and I must say since that time when at home I play my phone games less. I do value mobile gaming and love it but it's the little things that are holding it back example this year would be the lack of support for games like Bioshock and MHFU those are big time games that left fans stunned and you wouldn't see shit like that happen w Xbox games. Overall would love to see more devs support their games as there are some great games now on the store that haven't been updated in years and that's sad. Overall that's the biggest improvement I hope to see next year. A big thanks to Square Enix for fixing a lot of games in 2015 and also updating a lot of their FF games. Hope others will follow suit. I have kids and they can't even tell you where their 3DSs are anymore as they prefer mobile gaming to 3ds Also agree FTP crap games make iOS look bad in comparison. More AAA games please and more PS1 and 2 ports I love those!
I just look at mobile gaming as an on-the-go time waster. If I want to play a real game I go to my pc where I can do things like fly around in a fully simulated milky way galaxy with other people, or have multi-hour long civ games, or fps battles with 40-64 people with real controls. If I want to play a card game or board game, I go to my mobile platforms. If Im on the go or traveling, I go to mobile games. Otherwise if Im at home in front of a tv, then I usually dont game since I wont be watching what I sat down to watch, and if I want to game then Ill just go to my pc and do it right unless its a very casual type of game. Im not particularly bothered by it, may have a huge backlog of mobile games, but most of them were a buck or two or free, if it was cheap enough for me to buy it then it was cheap enough for me to backlog it
It's a matter of convenience. If someone is using the TV and I have 0 interest in it- then I may play a game on my iPad or iPhone. Or if I'm on a train ride or whatever. But if I have access to a console or PC, I'll never touch an iOS game. Whatever is on iOS you can find on PC or console- that interests me, there aren't any iOS or mobile exclusives (yet) that I must play over any console or PC game. Again, which interests me. That being said, I have a ton of iOS games and still rarely play even tho I tell myself I really want to or will. I think staring into a small screen for extended periods of time puts me off enough that I'd rather just sleep. And I play games for immersion and or competition. iOS games don't have the graphics yet to feel immersed- there are some nice games with decent graphics in some areas- but usually have to cut corners elsewhere. I think that's why the quick, very difficult style games appeal to me cause they are challenging aka competitive. But really the small screen and graphics on iOS is what turns me off most- and I don't think that's changing any time soon imo. Even the latest hardware for iOS- the games look great, but are about 5-10 years behind PC/console so it's tough justifying playing them.. Unless they are simple, challenging, and able to play in quick bursts. Which is what mobile gaming should focus on imo and seems like the majority of successful iOS games do well. I'll never understand why companies invest in FPS on mobile hardware- it just doesn't fit. Agree or disagree that's my opinion!
I'm 36, a so I grew up with the "retro" consoles like NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. I also played a ton of PC games from DOS and newer, although the last game I played was Oblivion. LOL! So, that being said, I prefer gaming on iOS these days simply due to time constraints. I have a two year old son, so my gaming time is very limited. The quick play sessions that mobile gaming offers keeps the gamer in me sane. I do long to play games like Fallout 4 and Witcher 3, but there's just NO way I'd be able to allot the amount of time necessary to enjoy them.
I often think this way, but I think the same about PC gaming. I have tons of iOS games and well over 100 in my backlog on Steam, but I prefer the console experience and mostly play my Xbox One. One thing that may slowly help me switch gears a little is that I recently got an Apple TV. Right now the selection of games isn't too great, but I started playing Transistor on it and can honestly say that being able to pick it up on the go and having it available on my big screen at home may be a game changer for me.
Before I got back into PC gaming, I really appreciated iOS gaming, and in a certain light I still do, but it's too incompetent to take seriously. Games become outdated and break simply from the release of a new device or OS, and they lose their support, because the developer sees it as a loss financially. At least with PC gaming, most games have pretty good communities, where even if they developer is incompetent, the community will bring great support.
I have a high end gaming desktop, but I've been so time starved the past few years that I never use it. iOS gaming is the only gaming for now. I sometimes miss the big monitor and better graphics and better controls, but not that much.
I don't value my ios system any less because it offers something different from xbox... I can take it with me. Yes, I love playing The Witcher 3 on my xbox... so I value that... that said, there are times when I can sort of semi-watch netflix and play my ipad, or while I am on vacation that I value my ipad. The kids love their ipads, because gaming on a console is a bit advanced and they can take their ipad everywhere--in the car. There is a place for both systems, and I could never value one over the other because they both offer separate experiences and/or opportunities.
PC and console gaming is good if you have a lot of time for example when you are in school or are a student but once you get a job ios gaming is better as you don't have so much free time.
My iPhone is a 16gig... so I only have a couple of games installed on it. I also have an iPad, but that's more the domain of my young daughter with all kinds of Toca Boca and Sago Mini games. With the WiiU, PS3, 360, 3DS, Vita, and PC... I don't have any want for things to play games on, yet I do still on occasion play a game on the AppleTV (4th generation). The types of games I enjoy most are definitely on the PC, consoles and handhelds. The control limitations of the phone and tablet are largely the separating factor there. There is the occasional tablet game that does all the things I love, but those are almost always also available on the PC or consoles.
Heh, probably depends on your course of study. I have way more free time in the real world then I ever did as a student. Go from 8hr days of school+labs+group projects+homework+studying, to 8hrs of work and go home
I don't think I've ever seen a comment that sums up my feelings so much. This is exactly me. I don't see it as "should I play on my iphone right now or on PC?". I play on my PC when I'm home. I rarely use my iphone and ipad while I'm at home, and it usually happens about half an hour before I go to sleep or when I'm sick and can't leave bed. As you said, every iOS game has a counterpart on other consoles, or at least something similar that is probably better in every aspect. Why should I play vainglory when I have league of legends at home? I will defnititely play vainglory if I'm on a long train ride or outside and have nothing else to do for a long time, but while I'm at home I will play league of legends. The same things applies to all sorts of games or even genres. I won't play any fps game at home since I have battlefield / csgo and such. I won't play any RPG game since I have Witcher 3 / fallout 4, and the list just goes on. And, exactly like you, I feel like the strengths of mobile games come from being simple and challenging. Most attempts to create a good FPS game will fail because it doesn't fit. It's not fun playing this genre on a small screen and with mediocre graphics. Instead, I think it's better to create simple games. What's fun about using an iphone as a gaming device is that you can play even when you're not near a pc / xbox / ps4 / whatever console you use, and that you can easily pull it out, play a few games in about 5 - 10 minutes, and get on with your day. Even if, theoretically, I could play The Witcher 3 on my iphone and have the same experience as I have on PC, I would still not use it outside. I won't play Witcher 3 or any other "heavy" game if I only have 10 minutes to spare (which I'm sure happens to everyone when they're outside), but I would play simple and short games just to pass the time, and this is in my opinion the strength of mobile phones as gaming devices.
Not really at all. I have two jobs and find myself playing my ps4 way more. And I know students who'd say the same.
Exactly, I have a wife, job, and 3 kids so I do play on my iPhone if I have a chance even though I have a Xbox One sitting there. Dont get me wrong though playing Fallout 4 on my Xbox is insanely fun when I have the time or energy to sit down and get into it.
