Also, I like the Pro defense option.

One of my favs addition from the update. We can play a full-time game and get decent amount of coins as a reward. The entry fee/ betting mechanism also add mental challenges as players can't take it easy anymore otherwise they will lose considerable amount of coins, especially now the opponents is an improved AI.

More extreme entry-fee/reward option. Like 500 entry to 1000 rewards would be my suggestion. I am greedy. :p

    Keep up the good works.

    Retirement

The retirement "feature" was a very greedy implementation into the new update. Many of us have spent A LOT of money and time to get our teams they way we want and you guys are stripping them from our teams. I have no desire to keep putting time into this game and I have almost 700 games under my belt. You should have ran this by the community before you decided it was in our best interest to have players that WE SPENT MONEY FOR to retire and become uncompetitive in the game. Hopefully the Pro edition has more incentive to play.

Does buying the doubler remove ads? Sorry if this has been asked, it's a long thread to comb, tried searching with not much luck.

The retirement feature seems like a perfect example of the kind of change that might or might not be well-intentioned, but is bound to come across as greedy and self-serving regardless. And that will affect invested players negatively regardless.

I remember there was a similar discussion back when Phosphor Games transitioned Dark Meadow to a free-to-play model, and their stated good intentions really did not make much difference for those of us who payed for a premium app only to suddenly be riddled with freemium mechanics. They might very well have had the best of mankind in mind, but it was very, very hard to take that at face value.

The developers of Football Heroes seem supremely well-intentioned, and the game itself is still splendid. But to implement a mechanic that takes away what some players have unknowingly payed real money for will never go over well, and might instill distrust in the developers regardless of their true intentions.

spin it however you'd like, the end result is still the same; greed.

No, the coin doubler does not remove ads.

MMarzola, here's a few quickies for you (to suggest, probably not to implement ;) ):

    * Screen rotation: it has been years since I last came across a game without auto-rotation, so at first I figured it was a bug. It would be really nice if we had the choice how to orient our devices when we play.
    * Pause upon app exit: currently, the game throws up a strange paus timer whenever the app is exited in the midst of a match (one that strangely does NOT allow us to press the pause button until the timer has run and the game has resumed). A simple pause (equivalent of tapping the pause button) would probably be far more intuitive and convenient.
    * Explanations for player stats in pop-ups: with no in-game manual, FH could do with explanatory pop-ups when we tap the stats next to player cards. Much like ability descriptions (albeit only visible as long as we keep our fingers pressed).

By the way, the stars in the circle in the upper right hand corner, is that a representation of rarity?

I've also yet to understand the details behind the upcoming Pro edition. Is it simply a deluxe package with some IAP included, a premium app with no freemium mechanics, or a different game?

And you know... with a persistent online mode (shared team progress with single player or a separate persistent team altogether, trading of player cards, integrated leagues and ladders and tournaments), Football Heroes could become even more of a classic than it already is, essentially a (very violent) sports MMO...

    Game Design and Business

I am not surprised at the reaction to the Retirement system. So far, I have not talked about monetization here on this forum, as I know how heated discussion around the issue in Free to Play games can be. Quite often it turns into a flame war and the branding iron of "Greedy Developer" gets used liberally. I have a thick skin, which apparently you need if you want to make Free to Play games.

The truth is that adding the Retirement system solves a game design problem and a business problem at the same time. The game design problem is as Jared pointed out in his article about Max Leveled Characters: "Once you do that, though, there's no real incentive to use other players, and instead you might just stick with your beefed up team for eternity. It can get a bit stale." From a business side, the Retirement system incentivizes players to buy new decks or Free Agents to replace retired players using either Grind Currency or making an iAP.

This will not be a surprise to you, but for the sake of clarity, Game Development is a business. The creative and inspired people of Run Games require food, shelter and a paycheck on Friday. They also deserve the confidence and the faith that they can build a life here at Run Games and maybe even raise a family. This is not a play for sympathy, this is just to emphasize that there is a cost associated with running a game studio every day. As such, there are truths of providing a service that is Free and still generates enough revenue to keep improving the game and pay for employees' salaries. It may shock many of you how little money I personally make on Football Heroes. I collect a modest salary and rest goes to the hard working folks at Run Games.

Football Heroes is a service. Meaning that Football Heroes will continue to get new updates and new features. As an example, we have invested years of work into Online Multiplayer to ensure a smooth, lag free gaming experience. When Online Multiplayer is complete it will be added to the game for FREE. Every day that Run Games is supporting Football Heroes costs money.

Good Free to Play games are at the intersection (and at times competing desire) to make a great game and run a successful business. Many excellent Free to Play games have come and gone, not because they were bad games, but because they simply cost more money to maintain than they were making. This is a tricky balance to strike and at times we will make changes that you disagree with, and I respect your opinions. But it is my job to to ensure that we can continue to support and improve Football Heroes and the best way to do that is to hire the best people in the game industry and ensure they can feed their families.

The retirement system is a change to the game that creates new challenges for you to deal with as a player, and I will not deny this fact. It is a change that I believe makes the game more interesting and vital and, if we are lucky, will allow us to generate slightly more revenue so we can pour additional resources into Football Heroes. These extra resources will allow us to continue supporting and improving Football Heroes and hopefully continue to do so for the next 10 years. I know it is a lot to ask but I believe me when I say that this change has been made for the greater good and health of Football Heroes and not greed.

Thank you for playing Football Heroes and hope you can try and see this issue from my perspective.

I can understand people being frustrated about retirement, I am too since I thoroughly enjoy this game and bought a few packs (maybe 20ish dollars). It's not about the money I just don't know I'd have bought packs if I knew my players would become less useful after a time with no benefit to maxing them out even, or finding even a way that would promote a player to buy IAP to get more units. At this point someome buys a pack or two... units decay... then I feel as if I'd be like "why would I do that again" instead of putting money back into the game in hopes of getting cool players.

    - Screen Rotation - this is bug, but it is a deep seeded bug that is not easily fixed. We want this fixed too, just not a top priority right now. We will need to fix this eventually.

    - Pause - not sure what you mean here by this. Could you explain this to me in greater detail? Thanks

    - Player Stats - YES! We should add buttons or something you can tap on to describe what each stat does. This is a great idea and one that is already on our pile of shame list (stuff that is cool, that we have not gotten to yet)

    - Football Heroes: Pro Edition - will be a completely new App and will not interact with Football Heroes 2015 at all. New cards, perks, modes, etc. Its really starting to shape up, cannot wait to share it with you.

    - Misc Features - All of those are great features. We are currently targeting: Online Multiplayer, and Online Seasons first. Then we will chip away at each of those feature requests - bit by bit.

    Thanks for the feedback

    Football Heroes: Pro Edition

Here is a little announcement blurb from Football Heroes: Pro Edition

"Football Heroes: Pro Edition is a hard-hitting and fast-paced arcade-style, role playing game (RPG) evocative of classic arcade-style games such as Tecmo Bowl and NBA Jam. In this edition, fans will construct the ultimate football team, selecting from more than 1,800 active NFL players to do battle online or head-to-head over Wi-Fi. Players' stats increase as you earn XP and you can level up your team by scoring touchdowns and making huge plays against your opponent. Players are also armed with incredible powers to use on the gridiron such as: Flaming Pass, Atomic Stiff Arm, Teleport Spin and Rocket Boots, just to name a few. All of these elements combine to make ""Football Heroes: Pro Edition"" a truly unique football experience.

Football Heroes: Pro Edition is the sequel to the smash-hit Football Heroes"

We are targeting a release date later this year.

We will be announcing more information right here on Touch Arcade as we get closer to the launch

So you can use real players this time? That's great though it sounds like it's an online only game? No single player?

It will have even more Single Player features than Football Heroes 2015. We are currently working on a Season Mode for Football Heroes: Pro Edition v1.0 release. Hope it gets finished in time :)

Thanks that sounds great! Sounds even better than FH2015 :p

One more quick question. Can it be played offline like FH? I hope so! I enjoyed playing FH anywhere and that was big part of the fun. A lot of new games lately, once reception gets bad, the game shuts itself down because it's always connecting. I can't support those kinds of games.

Best of luck on it! I hope we see some previews soon :)
