I was watching a doc. on Helvetica, and ect. ect., long story short it pointed out that there are fonts made for print and specific fonts made for the web. So I decided to change the default fonts (Times Roman, Courier) in my browser to more web based ones (Tahoma, and Verdana) and I gotta say, I do notice a difference in text being easier on the eyes. Maybe something with the spacing, or is it all in my head?

I'm not involved with web design, but I thought this was interesting, or at least something fun to experiment with.

How important are fonts to you? And if you are in the graphic design/ game ui field, are fonts an afterthought or the starting point to a project?

I'm incredibly thoughtful about color schemes and design every time I create a powerpoint presentation. Even with videos, I stay tasteful and efficient with editing. There's just some people out there that think Comic Sans oughta go together with Impact alternating in fuchsia and neon green with Three Day's Grace blaring in the background drowning out the narrative on Louisiana environment laws.

Lol, I think Comic Sans should not be available in powerpoint. Is there a legitimate use for Comic Sans at all beyond chat windows? No sarcasm, I'd really like to know.

Helvetica is actually frowned upon by a lot of font geeks. Apparently it's terribly designed, the spacing is wrong and the letter styles don't match up. It's the Comic Sans for uber font nerds and perfectionists.

Crazy that you pointed this out, that's what a few designers in that documentary said as well. That Helvetica is so widely used at this point it's become transparent. Also, Univers is supposed to be miles ahead of it. I've checked out both and see mild differences, but I'm assuming if you work with fonts all day, you develop a keen eye.
