So, being able to make folders within OS 4 is great! But, I was not certain how it would all work within iTunes 9.2. On the app page, they show up as folders, and you can drag and drop apps - but how to actually OPEN the folders? Well, I just double clicked (in Windows) and the folder opens up just like on the iPhone to be able in individually manipulate the apps within the folder. When the folder is open, you can drag and drop into it, or checking an app when the folder is open automatically places the app within the folder. Also, - the background wall paper in iTunes is the same as is on the phone. OS 4 is great - and no problems with slowdowns like I had when I was jailbroken... Now if they would only incorporate SB Settings I would be totally happy.....
One thing I noticed iOS 4 does now: It saves memory by having only the icons on your springboard pages loaded (including the thumbnail folder icons) and loading the icons for the apps inside folders only when you open the folders (and freeing them when you close the folder). This makes Springboard much snappier and more responsive I've found. At least until (and if) I fill up 11 pages worth of folders.
Categories was ugly and clunky though. I used it when I was jailbroken just because it was useful, but I hated the way it worked.
Not much though. I took off the jb due to lags, crashes, and other instability problems. It just was not worth the hassle.
The download has been available from Apple since the 7th if you were a developer or had the direct URL. The catch was that you needed iTunes 9.2 to install it, and you could only get that as a developer, and only for Mac. With 9.2 officially being released on Wednesday, everyone who downloaded the relevant .ipsw of iOS 4 could suddenly upgrade before the official release on Monday. Same here. It was fun for a while and I kept jailbreaking 'til the 3GS came out, but after that I just couldn't be arsed anymore. Jailbreaking had its day, but the hassle now outweighs the remaining benefits as far as I'm concerned.
Especially as I actually need my phone for work / family / etc... Can't afford to have my phone freeze on me, which it used to do occasionally. Multitasking also seems to work pretty well, although I am not using it as much as I thought that I would. We'll see in the future...
There isn't much that supports it right now. Other than the internal apps and the recently updated Sword of Fargoal, plus maybe a few other assorted apps, none of them support proper multitasking. Hopefully we'll see a lot more updates as iOS 4 gets official.
Yes I hope to see some good updates. The only problem I've had so far is when playing BIA2 if I skip the opening movie it crashes. Good thing I only have one more level left and have been playing it to free up space on my ipod I've been in and out of multitasking quite a bit - I like how it short cuts everything I am using.
