Generally not a fan of flight simulators... But this one looks cool enough to maybe give it a try!

I pretty much have to buy this... My Dad is a pilot and I've flown flight sims my whole life... Tried most of them, all the way back to a black and white flight sim on my TRS-80...
I'll leave impressions after I've spent some time with it, hopefully tonight!

Coolpepper, Did you ever get a chance to try out the game? Curious to get your thoughts

Sorry, not yet. I still have not been able to free enough space. It may take some time. Since Apple stopped allowing you to backup your games through iTunes since they released ios 9, they made it even more difficult to make more room on your device. As soon as I get enough free space, the first thing I'm going to do is download this. I'm planning on getting an iPhone as my next cell so once that happens I shouldn't run into this free space problem as often. I do plan on trying to free up space before then to play this. What should I be shooting for? Over 5 gigs free?

    I'm showing 2.6GB installed.

So I only spent about 30 minutes with it so far, but here are my impressions:

The satellite imagery looks cool, and the 3D modeling (where used) also looks good. As with most flight sims you want to be pretty high in the air to get the best effect. The coastlines looked strange as they had textures on the edges and all coasts were raised platforms. Also the stitching on the satellite images was bad in several areas... Roads running into mountains, highways stopping at seams, etc.

The controls work well enough, but I found them to be a little too responsive... Perhaps this is adjustable, I didn't check. Also, using a flight stick instead of the gyroscope would have been nice. The flaps adjust almost instantly which I thought was weird.

It was fairly enjoyable taking off and flying around, but it gets old quick. Part of the issue is the lack of features and static cockpits. None of the instruments actually work. You have to look at the ribbon at the bottom of the screen for your basic info. (Speed, altitude, heading, etc). There is no navigation or autopilot. That makes it hard to hold your flight path and enjoy the scenery... This should be added asap. With no navigation I felt like I had no where to go... No point in taking a flight other than to look around! Lol. Obviously this is a super simplified "simulator" so there is a lot missing here... Too much...

The flight model is not nearly as good as XPlane. I loaded that afterwards and immediately noticed how much better it felt. With autopilot and navigation (basic), better controls, more options, and live gauges, it's clearly the better choice.

Also, glass should be made to look more realistic rather than the shiny mirror like texture their using now.

Overall, this isn't a bad sim. It's basic, but looks pretty good. I think a little attention and some updates that add some features would go a long way. As it is now, I doubt I'd load it up over XPlane, it doesn't offer anything beyond and lacks in several areas. If you have XPlane I'd skip it for now and watch for updates.

Just my two cents... Hope that helps someone!

    +1

    Same impressions like you qman316.

The flight feels like drive a car, not a flight sim.

Thanks for the comments. Our differentiation factor when compared to the other flight sims is the graphics. When the graphics settings are turned on high, it doesn't compare to the competition. Here's a comparison shot below with Aerofly 2 (Flight Unlimited is the top one). As for the controls and flight model, those are both getting an update next week. Missions will be coming soon as well. Thank you again for the comments, it helps us to make the best game possible.

This was my first flight simulator game. I am very impressed. I have emailed the devs to notify them about a spelling error. San Francisco was spelled incorrectly in the game. I literally got to fly over my office and my home. It was pretty trippy. I agree with an earlier comment about the stitching. There are several areas that need to be revamped. Particularly, Berkeley and DT Oakland. The rendering (I'm on an iPad Air 2 - graphics on ultra) is pretty bad. It's difficult to make anything out from under 2200 ft and over 6300 ft. Aside from that, rendering for landscapes and buildings in the distance needs some tweaking as well. I still think the graphics could be touched up a notch. Perhaps employ the Metal API?

The weather effects definitely need to be enhanced. Most of all though, there are no city lights at night. This was a huge issue/obstacle for me. Devs, please add lights to the dusk and night flights. It would look so much better/realistic.

Aside from that, I want to wholeheartedly commend the devs for this work of art. You guys must've spend a ton of time on this. $4.99 is a steal!

If you guys are in need of a seasoned beta, let me know. I have a knack for detail, and would be privileged to assist.

Again thanks for the promo code. I tried the game and I like it. The graphics are awesome and better than the most iOS flying simulators. Personally I don't like controlling a plane using the accelerometer, but this game plays very good with a MFi controller (used SteelSeries Nimbus). Pity enough the game has some problems with rendering on the iPad Air 2. Also I have some suggestions to improve the game in the future:
    - Add a waypoint system
    - Add a large passenger jet
    - Add some missions
    - A function to place your plane on the height you want

I agree 100% I have played all the flight sims and when set to high no other holds a candle in the graphics dept :)
Good job guys and this is way better than Aerofly 1 and 2 any day!
Today I will get to play it a lot more so I'm super glad about that.

Can confirm the render issues iGamerNL25 mentions regarding the iPad Air 2. Happening here as well.
All previous mentioned issues regarding satellite textures not being stitched properly and the raised terrain against the water surface I can confirm as well, and hope it can be resolved as well.

For that matter I was hoping to find a photo mode within the app.
Is this still planned for future updates?

Did you also read my previous feedback regarding the UI transition animation speed and the very loud and penetrating (and sometimes never ending) stalling audio beep? :)

Thanks for the comments, all issues are being worked on and will be fixed in an update releasing next week. In addition, many new features will be making their way out in the coming weeks and months (missions, air traffic, street traffic, etc.)

Sorry for the delayed reply. Is there any way you can post a screen shot of the iPad Air 2 problem? We haven't been able to recreate it.
The water issue we are aware of and we're working on it for the next update. The photo mode is a good suggestion, we'll add this to the lengthy "to do" list. We're also aware of the stall beep bug and are working on a fix. Thank you

I will take some screen shots via my iPad Air 2 when I am home tonight. Will you be adding city lights for the dusk and night flights in the update arriving next week?

This is a good start and has a lot of potential. However while this is one of the better looking flight sims on iOS the frame rate is not great, and that's on an Air 2. Flight sims a very difficult to play with choppy frame rates. Also the physics need a bit of work. Keep up the good work, looking forward to the updates.

    Some more thoughts

I don't know whether the graphics issues some others have mentioned with iPad Air 2 are the same as I'm getting on iPad Pro... so I've tried to attach some screenshots. These show the odd "dynamic lighting showing through aircraft model" issue, and the short draw distance (landscape appears in grey chunks as you approach it) and weird artefacts that are appearing (grey blobs over the water)... Graphics are set to "Ultra".

It strikes be that something must not be right here, I can see the polish and effort that has gone into the graphics, so to have the landscape not even visible until you get near to it seems like something is amiss. In it's current form, Aerofly 2 is looking better to me. Hope this is a bug, as I can see FU 2k16 has the capability to look really great, and you day that's what you are concentrating on the most.

I'd echo the comments others have made re the "slow" UI - if that could be sped up a then navigating the main menu would be quicker.

On the settings menu, when changes are made, the buttons don't stay "selected" - the setting is changed, but ergonomically it would be better to show the button as being "clicked", or selected in some way.

Also, three button taps to exit a flight... seems a bit clunky. Two would be fine, but three seems cumbersome.

Ability to zoom the map would be nice.

Autopilot stuff would really help, as tapping the buttons and changing camera angles etc invariably means moving the device and ends up resulting in a nosedive. an Autopilot would enable us to look around at the lovely scenery.

Ability to start a flight at an arbitrary point and altitude would be good... (easier to go sightseeing).

As I mentioned before: a chase view further back from the aircraft would be good. Might just be my personal preference.

Another odd thing I've noticed... is it me, or is the compass out by 180 degrees?!

I don't want to moan too much, but it does have the potential to be great - i realise it's new and you will still be working on things!

If there are any promo codes available I would be happy to check this out on a few of my iOS devices and feedback. The similarities are certainly there with Aerofly 2 which is my current favourite.
