WHY??? Their game was superior to anything else anyone made... 2K makes bug-filled games and 989sports just wasn't on par to EA

There is a whole online community of people who still play MVP 2005. I even still play it to this day because it's still a fun game (I also don't need current rosters since my season mode is so far ahead every player is a no-name anyway)

It's still one of the best baseball games ever made. The game is STILL popular, 4 years later. Tell me one sports game that is THAT popular. How did they "get what they deserve"????

Are you another bitter dev jealous of their success? Jesus christ people... Yeah it's unfair that they have the NFL license, I agree, since competition would help everyone and the whole gaming community would benefit from it if it didn't exist (personally I don't like Madden very much, but that may be that I just flat out suck at any "realistic" game, which I'm assuming they aim for)

My guess is that potential customers will align themselves more strongly with game mechanics than with licenses. At least one will certainly not have the same degree of protests as with Real Football 2009.

Interestingly, Ian Smith, founder of Freeverse says in the STP video that one will have "all sorts of editing with stats, team logos, etc". Now this of course could merely mean that one can design random team logos, rather than use known MLB logos...

When EA locked up NFL and shut down true industry competition and innovation in the sports arena... It's only fitting they did not have the opportunity to also lock up baseball.

I'm not bitter. I like EA, Activision, Midway, etc for what each of the companies has brought to the table. Not even close. What I don't like is the universal lock down of Sports IP to a single publisher who may or may not bring titles to a platform they own the rights to. Add to that the lock out of great game play, like you noted with MVP 2005.

Again - my reference to "They got what they deserved" directly relates to their lock down on NFL - preventing anyone else from bringing product to market. They just got some of their own medicine. ;-)

    Thx!

I will agree that it does suck that any one publisher can get exclusive rights to making 3rd party games... I don't quite understand the incentive behind making those deals from a league/players association standpoint. I wouldn't imagine they are demanding more money from the publisher because then the publisher would back down... Although maybe they are and the publisher takes the deal assuming they will sell massive amounts of games that they'd make more money anyway... Who knows

    Player ethnicity??

Notably absent is an option to select player skin color/ethnicity. :(

Hopefully, there are more pages of options...

Great catch on the missing pitching mound and skin color. Something I believe we hit on many of our legacy products. ;-) And regarding their comment saying this is the best sports animation on the iPhone. ** Cough ** **Cough ** Tennis anyone? :p

    Thx!

The game's still a month or so away, so there's plenty of time to write into Freeverse and make sure that stuff gets in there :)

Well, I certainly hope HHG will be "stepping up to the plate", and capitalizing on their experience here to kick some of those legacy titles into 21th century iphone quality graphics and gameplay! That's what I'm talking about! Competiton rules!

    Extracting Game Info

"The game will also feature multiple stadiums, as well as night and day play. Freeverse isn't sure whether a full season mode will make it into the game yet."

Seems like one will also at least have:

    1. A Homerun Derby, with farthest homerun distance calculated.

    2. Playofffs

I am also looking forward to improved character animations compare to Flick Bowling and Motochaser. The head movement in those games seemed like the characters either had no cervical musculature support, or were tripping on drugs.;)
