I'm starting to hate Apple. Rumor is that the lightning jack will be removed for an optical solution. http://www.forbes.com/sites/ewanspence/2016/09/27/apple-iphone-next-massive-gamble-lightning-port/?utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=yahootix&partner=yahootix&yptr=yahoo#2996eead3538
Meanwhile Samsung is seemingly trying to flood the market with explosive products, If the note wasn't bad enough now even their washing machines are exploding. http://money.cnn.com/2016/09/28/news/samsung-cpsc-washing-machine-explosion-reports/index.html?sr=twCNN092816samsung-cpsc-washing-machine-explosion-reports0540PMVODtopLink&linkId=29299325
The only thing that makes sense for the future of the iPhone, looking at the direction Apple historically has gone as a company, is if they're ever going to do anything with the Lightning jack they'll just remove it entirely. Apple has pushed hard towards just making things wireless with fewer and fewer physical ports. I bet this upcoming refresh of their pro lineup of laptops have almost no ports on them because you can just do everything with a couple USB-C and/or Thunderbolt ports. If a future iPhone has inductive charging like the Apple Watch, what's the point of even having a connector on it at all? There isn't a single function I can think of that exclusively requires a copper connection that the iPhone does right now. If I could charge without a wire, I don't need the Lightning port at all. Jumping over to an optical cable doesn't solve any problems, and using USB-C instead just locks Apple out of being able to charge their current Lightning licensing fees.
I'm good with the USB-C! Wish everyone would jump on this so I can charge ALL of my toys with the one cord! A Universal wire would be so nice to have!
They won't because they are Apple. The removal of the audio jack doesn't really upset me that much. I'm more upset about all the crappy treatment they give us gamers.
In theory, yes - but right now wireless syncing is really unreliable. And when it stops working, the only way to kickstart it again is to sync through the wire. (Of course right now I can't get any syncing to work because my Mac has decided that it's not authorised - regardless of how many times I authorise it)
