Good lord, THIS all day long. People have the most insane expectancy of gameplay hours to price ratio.
Just finished the game, and just some of my thoughts to add to the collective. I dont have a modern console, so when FFXV was released last year I didnt bother to look into it. I have played every single player FF since IV, so I thought why not give FFXVE a spin. The port is well done. A few crashes here and there but nothing frustrating as it autosaves quite often. I can understand the pricing as it is the newest entry in the franchise and SE actually took the effort to revamp the graphics/world for mobile and left the main story untouched. There are a lot of worse ports on the Appstore and most of them are just direct conversions from PC/console. So good job to SE for the game. Now, onto the game itself. I find FFXV similar to FFXIII, as they are the flagship of modernised JRPG. Good graphics, flashy combat, coupled with awkward voice acting and dialogue (FFXV is better than FFXIII in this aspect), uninteresting villain and unmemorable music (I miss Nobuo Uematsu).
As I said, I don't think so. At least not for a very long time. It was good while it lasted but fights were way too easy and story rather predictable/forgettable. Also I don't really see a new game+, just the option to replay chapters apparently with all your gear/upgrades. With fights already having been very easy anyway this also isn't a big incentive to start a new playthrough. Don't get me wrong I liked the game and the time I had with it but as I said, knowing what I know now, I probably wouldn't buy it again, main reason probably being that it never was challenging in the least.
Yes I do Don't have much of a backlog as I'm pretty picky about which games I buy (especially with Apple's strict return policy) and often replay those I like after a while. Just looking at the games in my signature, save for Crashlands I replayed every one of those games at least once. But don't get me wrong, even though I like to revisit favorite games, replay value usually isn't my highest concern. But for a port like FFXV PE which costs about two to 10 times more than your usual iOS game I think one should at least be allowed to also take it into account.
I agree too. Im getting older and have more real life responsibilities now. I like my longest games to be 5-10 hours with not too much padding. I also like to finish and move on and forget new game + modes and dont replay long games much..especially with so many new things coming out all the time. That said..my backlog is only like 5-10 games max at a time now a days.
So Im still enjoying the game and dont regret purchasing at all, but in the middle of Chapter 4 and it hasnt opened up much I mean a couple new mechanics, but the on-rails feel is real here. Because of all the spoken dialogue ( which I love ) coupled with the on-rails style, I almost feel like this plays amazingly similar to a Telltale game.
Ah that's pretty alright. Honestly most of the final fantasy games has 0 replay value if you ask me. Or well that's perhaps not fair, but at least 1-6 has pretty much none. 7 has some, and I haven't played more than half of 8 (since the disc was screwed), and I haven't played 9+. Furthermore, 15 on consoles is said to be pretty weird. Like a huge waste of time from weird activities such as fishing. I'm much more into just getting a good story and shorter experience. To each their own though. I do agree with your later points about the forum, for whatever that's worth.
I couldnt disagree more, theres plenty of ways to impose yourself self-challenges in these games. Especially with FF1 and FF4-5-6. Every year for FFV theres the Job Fiesta event online, Shaun talks about it every time, this, to me, is like the epitome of replay value. I play FF1 every year as well, for the last few years ive been rolling 4 x 6 sided dices to make my party... very fun. Anyway, you have the right to disagree but i think most FF have good replay value
This conversation about replay value is interesting and probably worth a thread on its own (maybe I’ll start it). As far as FF15 is concerned, it’s pretty clear that if replay is what you want, this ain’t the game for you. As someone who used to play through Max Payne every couple of years, I get it.
Sure, I don't want to derail the thread. I would argue that there's almost no replay value in those older titles. Maybe FF1 if anything, but as for the others, you either have set party members with set jobs (as in FF4) or jobs which can be strung together, as in grinded to level 99 without too much effort, and then take the best of it into your build and grind the next class (as in FF5), and so on. Even in FF6 you're limited to the job you're given for the character, and that is, from what I've seen so far (playing it at the moment) pretty much on rails. I expect it'll change once I get an airship, but it has been on rails thus far, which doesn't leave much in the way of replay-ability. But I mean to each their own. You can replay games for their good story, though I'd argue that most early FFs lack this as well. It's all good though, like I said previously, I don't mind not having a game where there's only room for 1 playthrough. They're often very memorable.
The chapter by chapter approach was not bad either. From a replay point of view, If you have cleared it before, you can play your desired chapter again. You don't have to do it from the beginning. Not as good as I expected, but in the end, it was good.
finally finished the game. well worth the price. story can be pretty confusing at the end but i finally get it . this game crash like crazy on my iphone X 11.2.5 on every chapter, but thank God they put plenty of checkpoints so i dont have to replay the game from the beginning of the chapter, but everything else is so well made for a mobile games. kudos to square for this game and im pretty sure to go straight ahead and buy the ps4 version. 4stars for me and ill give it a 5 if they fix the crash issue on iphone X.
Thanks for posting the whole game on YouTube! Im watching each after I finish each chapter. i was going to ask how the YouTube crackdown has affected you, and then realized Im only one of over 270K subscribers. Wow, you must work your butt off! Anyway, Im thankful to be able to watch this whenever I cant play.
I have to wonder what is it about my phone or game settings that is different, because I have yet to run into a single crash, and I also have an IPhone X with iOS 11.2.5. And I mean none — the game has been rock solid for me. Are you running at 60 FPS or 30?
Update is out. According to the notes, it takes care of the loading issue, as well as other “small bugs.”
The game also previously worked fine and was downloadable onto an iOS 10 device. It doesn't look like that is the case anymore as I'm on iOS 10 and I see the update there, but I don't have the choice of updating. Which means to me that they are now enforcing iOS 11 minimum requirements.
It was weird after I updated. I had to download over 500mb of stuff in order to load my save. Then when I selected Chapter 3, which I’m still on, it made me download 250(ish)mb more. I wonder if I need to download any more later. I’ll check to see if I can restore downloads. EDIT: Yup. Need to download another 1250mb. Weird.
They have in the description notes that it requires iOS11.1or later. Was that there before? Like you I have iOS10 and there is no update to install. # Hopefully they dont add some new fantastic feature to the game, because I wont be upgrading to iOS11...no way!
I sure hope and it looks like this will fix the saving issue and I was refusing to play it again until they fixed that When you’re looking for 5 cactuars and you have found 4 and then you have to minimize to answer an important text and come back just to have to start back with none that sucks bad There is no game that should cause you to have to go back to main screen just cuz you minimized the app this is 2018 not 2007 sheesh Gripe over now maybe I can enjoy it Still not very thrilled with this game and still a bit disappointed by it They could’ve made this game so much better than an auto battler with no replay value (only replay value is it makes me want to play my console version ha) Everybody get mad at me again but I speak truth
