Thanks for the link EP! Just what I was looking for. I'm annoyed at the controls a bit. I'm okay with them using an emulator style set up but they could've at least made some improvements or changes (for instance, have buttons disappear on screens that don't use them, etc.). It seems like a straight up port with no consideration to a mobile device like all their other ports. I guess they figured FF7 will sell no matter what so they didn't bother spending the time to add anything.
Yep... An MFi controller is a band-aid to the issue. Set the controls opacity to zero, and you have full control while having no UI clutter up the screen.
I'm honestly really upset at how dumb the controls are as well!! It look so stuffy on the screen! I feel like square was lazy on this port. I don't care if graphics game play all stayed the same at least make touch controls then a stupid emulator approach
Your all making me unsure now with all this mention of controls, are they really that bad visually and in use on an iPad? As for the cheats I won't be using those developing the charachters is the whole point of a game like this for me, instantly getting them to max is no good. Although all that gil would be nice without the rest of it.
Is anyone having trouble downloading the game? Almost 6 hours later and 2 attempts and the download's died at the exact same place (490 MB) twice on my laptop. With my download speed I don't think there's any chance in hell this will finish on my phone, but I'm trying once. Anyone else have this problem?
This is the only reason I didn't buy this instantly. I know for a fact I have little willpower when I get stuck, and I'll use that cheat button which I'm sure will totally ruin the game for me as I use it more and more. Yes I know it's my fault not theirs but all the same I wish it hadn't been included. I'll hold off and buy myself RCT3 instead.
Thanks for the video... I'm not buying this.. This is a PS1/2 emulator with all those controls. 2 Gb install is the same as the 4 CD's... Not even widescreen.. I'm surprised it past the Apple Store
This. This. THIS. This is a mobile platform, where MOST users are casual gamers (even though they went hardcore on Flappy Bird ), and a huge majority, when stuck, will buy IAPs to plow through (in games that have those), so i really appreciate SE for at least adding it free rather than adding it as an IAP.
Yeah i understand your reasoning but it's still pretty wise of SE to let go of a few players like you to invite in (or cash in... matter of opinion ) on thousands more users.
The bright side of what SE did to the controls is that they made it look AS INVISIBLE AS POSSIBLE. It had to be very minimal, since they know that on the touchscreen, the controls will have to overlap some parts of the screen. Minimal, as in thinnest outlines only... No fills, no colors, no shades or any effects. We all know how many buttons the playstation controller has, and this game actually uses all of those to some extent (although some are of very minimal use). Im pretty sure SE didnt copy the looks of the UI from the emulators we've seen, and the reason why it looks like the ones on the emulators is pretty straight forward: Think the emulators only made the decision to make the UI look like that? NO. It was planned to look like that as it provides the most visibility while providing us a way to play the game on the touchscreens. From what i have seen in the things that SE do, they plan things well, and that could mean it would look similar to one already existing. Kind of an example of the saying "great minds think alike." Sure SE could integrate a few of the lesser used buttons onto others or maybe even button combos, but the fact is that SE gave us a legit way to play the game on our mobile devices. In another perspective, they provided a legit way to emulate a classic. The fact that they added in full MFi support, full icloud support, multiple save slots, Encounters Toggle, and a free cheat tool shows that they did a great job at this port. It could have been better with Command-Touch controls, but the one they did works so well as proven by emulators.
Yeah, I lost my tweeks, but thankfully iCleaner & iFile were easy to get back. I had to Google how to reinstall GBA4iOS, but all the games and such were still there! After deleting IB3, I should have enough space to get FFVII on here now. Can't wait.
THIS is why I updated today. If a company will even allow us to emulate their original games, they deserve the money. I'd much rather pay them for use of the ROM than just emulate it myself. Especially since they put the iCloud save in there.
Must not buy...must resist...why are you doing this to me square? Why would you release this the first week classes start when I actually have to be productive again!
