I don't know why a big company like SE does not make a better port or just remake FF7. The game have no better compare to old PC version but can't run well on Iphone 5 which have better CPU. Much slow down when having animation and in world map. Waste $16 and should I need to spend another $600 just for Iphone 6 to play it? Hope they update someday with improvement which even Iphone4 can play, and widescreen support is much better. EDIT: Or am I the only one have problem that it's slow down in worldmap on Iphone 5?
I mean, they were pretty clear in the App Store description that the game is intended for 5S and up. It's buy at your own risk below that level. As for remaking FF7, they are. But not for mobile, because it's going to a be ~$50 million budget project, and if you think a premium mobile game is going to make that much money back, let alone profit, I've got a bridge to sell you. Maybe we'll get a port of that remake in ten years or something.
I don't understand why so many people think a specific game is made for them. I for one am very pleased to be able to carry FF7 in my pocket. (along with FF1-6) Square and everyone else should be moving ahead, not backwards. I bought tons of games when I had my iPhone 4 and patiently waited until I got a new device. I loathe gamers who leave bad reviews from their shitty iPod Touches while at the same time halting the wheels of progress in mobile gaming innovation.
But Shaun, it's not App Store, it's here where I know it release and buy right after I see my device in list So I can't be at least feel disappoint if it is not running well?
You can feel disappointed at anything you like, that's fine. But when it's in the App description, it's hard to get too upset at Square Enix about it. The iPhone 5 is ~3 years old at this point, and they've been a pretty big three years tech-wise. I'll grant that the PC port this is based on is a hideous, inefficiently-coded mess, but that's the only source code they had to work with. Short of redoing the whole thing from scratch (which would be too expensive), there's not much else they could do but put it out there even though it won't run smoothly on everyone's devices. And Rinoa, it's not that developers are overpaid. They're hideously underpaid for the hours they work, especially in Japan. But making games is expensive these days. Especially console games. It's understandable that the players don't see the actual costs of making games, but you would be very, very surprised.
Might be overpaid, lol, I and my colleague got only $10k/year for develop game even those are all big titles, usually rate 4 stars or above here in Toucharcade. Third world is cheap. But when I mention about better port, I'm don't think that will cost millions. It's like a 1 or 2 week game ported to mobile. And with game that just port to another platform, you guys think they need to pay millions? Just let you know they don't pay that much to developer and what I mention can only do by them, not Marketing department or else.
I have a game play question.. I just got this chocobo summon material.. In the guide it says when equip on weapon slots with elemental will make you hit with wind element.. Question how the hell does one know this???
Square Enix doesn't outsource Final Fantasy games outside Japan. Even a lower cost developer like TOSE pays their staff significantly more than $10k per year, which is about $20-25k per year less than what it takes to live in Japan at near-poverty level. And recoding FF7 from scratch (which it would be, as Square Enix no longer has the original source code) would be a much longer project than 1-2 weeks. So you get the tweaked PC source code, which is infamous for how terrible it was in its original form. They already made major improvements on that code where they could, albeit with interesting side-effects, but there's only so much they can do with sloppy code written 17 years ago by Eidos employees who have long since moved on. All things considered, I think the port came out fairly well. You clearly disagree, which is fine. I'd advise getting a refund, cuz I can't imagine SE will get this running any better on your iPhone 5.
yup the port is quite good i think I just got this issue of Turbo speed sometimes... Hope they gonna fix that, I gotta close the app and reopen to make it go away I only wish they have some kinda setting for those border, maybe I could change it to black to make it less distracting. Finger crossed At least this port have icloud save #
Wellll, if the Shinra streaming service gets going well enough, we might be playing it on our phones within the few years of its release. But that's cheating!
If Square-Enix and Sony are happy with the sales of this port, I hope they consider porting FFVIII (which I've never played), FFIX (which was my first FF to ever play on my own), and even other titles like Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, Dragon Quest VII, Xenogears, or Star Ocean The Second Story. I haven't played most of these, so it would be great to do so in full ports with iCloud saves and all. I'm almost 6 hours in and I'm still having fun in the Train Graveyard. I could probably grind all day, listening to this iconic soundtrack! If only I could steal everything I want without having to face certain enemies multiple times.
