A note about how well done the port is. Even though this game probably eats through my battery faster than any other I've ever had, I haven't noticed the temperature of my phone going into critical meltdown mode. In fact it's been cool as a cucumber the entire time.
Didn't Square lose major assets and video / original code to FFVII? Wondering if that's why this doesn't have touch controls, etc. No wonder they're working on a complete remake for next-gen consoles. That being said, I'm enjoying it for what it is, and old classic, now in my pocket -- that I've never played all the way through.
Someone who makes sense in this thread. Thank you! Also, if the game did have touch controls for the menus, the last thing I would want to do is continuously have to switch between touch controls and a D-pad/button scheme every half a minute. I get it, we're playing the game on a touch screen, but the game was originally made with a controller in mind and it works damn near perfect the way it is now. Plus, I'm not really sure where people are seeing the on-screen controls as the cancer they're made out to be. I haven't messed with the controls at all and the opacity's the same and they're barely visible on an iPhone 6. Guys, this is THE Final Fantasy VII. If you want a remake...get a console and wait a while. Yeesh.
This may not look perfect, but it is highly playable and enjoyable. I bet most of the complaints are from those who dont own the game yet, but saw the videos and screenshots already out. Honestly, the UI (virtual buttons mostly) dont look to be the same quality as the classic, BUT the function is perfectly implemented. With the game's dynamic camera in the combat system, touch-targetting would mean a coding overhaul, which wouldnt seem viable for a port into mobile. The next best thing is to simulate the PSX buttons, and using thin-outlined, no-fill buttons are the smartest way to go as they wont cover any part of the game at all. It may look ugly, but it would provide the best in terms of functionality. People assume that just because this is FF7 Square Enix will spend a fortune to revamp the game system to integrate touch-targetting controls. Fact is, this isnt a game with infinite source of income (read: IAP) due to its premium nature. Im pretty sure the game will still earn enough to pay for the port costs and more, but it wont earn billions. What we get in this iteration of FF7 is a perfectly functional port. It could be more, but it could mean a higher risk for SE without a more significant layer of returns.
Thanks for your comments EP! Looks like I didn't try running across. I'll go do that now. Didn't think of doing the opposite of what I was told or remember. But really, it was walk in the original. If you look up all the old guides online, they all tell you to walk and not run past. It definitely has to be a glitch.
If you can read that The autosave is only for 2 conditions 1. After battle in the worldmap 2. Exiting from town/dungeon to the worldmap That's it Can you choose the color of the bar outside the game? I found blue is kinda distracting at least i want to switch it to black thats why i choose a space gray iphone less distracting when watching movie/playing game
SE doesn't exactly have a stellar track record of updating their apps. Their typical MO seems to be to dump stuff on the app store and forget about it, issues be damned. That said, I'm not having significant issues with it. Could it have been better if the UI had been reconfigured for a touch interface? Sure. But my guess is that sort of an overhaul would have kept us from ever seen an iOS version at all. I'm perfectly happy with this one.
The controls are perfectly fine, I've been playing on iPhone 6 for the past 2 hours. You can barely see the x and y buttons and the blue bars on the outside house the rest of the buttons. This is not a lazy port, this is perfectly fine, playable and well worth whatever I paid for it (didn't look at price cause I didn't care). I can see why a younger audience may be turned off from this because it's not as graphically brilliant as today's games, but I assure you, I've not fallen into a storyline like this one with the exception of maybe Warcraft 3 and the expansion... If you can't appreciate the game at least take in the story for history in gaming... God I'm old
For the record, I am not complaining about the UI. I haven't played yet, but judging from the screens I have seen, everything looks fine to me. I need to go tell my wife and kids that I love them....they won't be seeing me for a while, LOL!
I'm so stoked for this game. I played it to death on PS1 (and didn't complete it!). I have left sided hemeplegia and struggle to use my left hand on on screen control pads. Could anyone imagine playing it mainly right handed and let me know how you get on? Thank you
Would an MFi controller make things easier to play so you're not using the onscreen controls? At least this game supports MFi, so that's good. I haven't had time to start playing it yet but I'll give it a whirl right-handed tonight w/o my MFi controller and let you know.
This is an amazing port. Far more playable than the steam version where the battle scenes are frame-locked at 15FPS. The graphics look better than I expected. The controls work perfectly. I couldn't have reasonably asked for more. It's worth the asking price for the music alone. We were blown away by the beautiful graphics on our TV screens back in the 90's. The backgrounds are often muddied and pixelated but the characters and story has lost none of its charm. The only thing SE could have done to improve the graphics to get them inline with today's standards is completely remake the game.. Oh yeah, they are dong that anyway! Look out for it on mobile in a few years time
I am so conflicted about buying this. On the one hand I adore it and loved playing through years ago, on the other hand I have forgotten most of the story so if I actually wait until the remake without playing it now, then it will almost be like a fresh game...
I'm afraid that even if you buy it now, by the time the remake will release you'll have forgot the story again. Yes, i'm talking to you, FF XV...
Anyone know of an in-game way to exit your current game and return to the main menu? I've had to exit the app many times to rearrange my saves.
Has anyone tried this on iPhone 5c. I know I keep asking it's just I don't want to spend almost 20 dollars for a game that it won't even work on
Playing this with AirPlay to the AppleTV (and connected speakers) once the kids are asleep. Works great as nothing suffers from a few ms of latency. Only problem is I remember leaving the PSX on pause all day because I hadn't reached a convenient save point. Can't exactly do that with my phone.
