Regardless of how good or bad the game is there will always be people who like or hate it. The only problem I see here is why do people who don't like the sprite, translation, job system, overall gameplay even bother spending money to buy it.
Dear mother of god, i hope not. From all these remakes, FF VI is the most waited(well, maybe FF VII, but let's stay with the 2D era)... I just hope that when FF VI comes out, they do a good job in re-drawing all the sprites insteed of using some generic template used from last game (that look like were taken from RPG Maker) Seriously, i do understand that Square Enix charges 15 bucks for their games because they believe it to be a full video-game and not some casual mini-game. But don't use generic art and expect us to be fine with it! Great game? Yeah. It was a great game 20 years ago, but now we want something more for the price tag!
Great game when it originally came out. Great game now too. I paid $100 for FFVI when it came out. Getting it ( or V ) for $15 seems pretty good to me. I could do with out the FF dimensions style sprites though. Doesn't ruin the game. I would have prefered a different look though
Regardless on if anything in this version is a deal-breaker, the best way for gamers to see results is not with your own wallet, but by complaining. The reputational damage of disgruntled customers can be dangerous to sales of that and future titles, and first/early impressions stick (how often are Metacritic's reviews -- or reviews anywhere -- updated as issues are addressed or content is added?). Don't like something? Make it known. If SQEX knows what's good for 'em, they'll nip those issues in the bud. Because as much as the digital age allows for second chances, coverage is still rooted in the days of the first release being the final release.
What is there to complain about? This looks better than the original, what more do u want? The sprites aren't redone in 3d sure but they are clean and crisp. Game is a perfect port.
Bastion and the GTA ports are examples of properly priced games with lots of content and AAA quality. When I think of Square I just think of stuff like All The Bravest. They're just another garbage cash grab machine like EA and Capcom.
Don't understand complaints about price at all, if you think he game is worth it, buy it. If you don't think it's worth it, don't buy it and go play something else. It's not like there is a shortage of 99cent or even free shovel ware. If you want something deeper either pay, wait for a sale, or search the store for some other classics rpg that is 20+ hours long and is at a cheaper price. But please don't ever complain about the shortage of high quality titles, they are going by the way side because every body wants something for nothing and these companies are in it for money. So what are their choices? They look at the AppStore and see high profile IAP infested shovel ware raking in the dough and their paid for games making a pittance, the answer is obvious make IAP infested shovel ware and watch it it the front page of TA with a glowing 5 star review and the forums with a billion posts saying how awesome this non game is. On the other hand put out a high quality product charge a comparable price and sit back and listen to the whining. /rant mode off
The price doesn't bother me. A full game like this is well worth several angry birds or endless runners. The sprites aren't a welcome change to me, though. Partcicularly, how is the player supposed to believe that Faris is masquerading as a male pirate when you can see she has flowing hair and breasts. They made her a little too girly.
Actually FF5 has a better time-money ratio than Bastion. Bastion can be completed in about 8 hours, and is priced at 5.49 (I think). FF5 takes about 30 hours to finish on average, priced at 16.99 5.49/8=0.68625 dollars per hour 16.99/30=0.56333 dollars per hour It is therefore cheaper to buy FF5 over Bastion. GTA is a bit different because your comparing an open worldish shooter to a JRPG. Enjoyment is subjective. Some may get no fun at all out of GTA because it is a shooter (Shooter on iPhone? No thanks!) while they may get heaps of fun and content out of FF5. You need to buy what is best for you. There are plenty here who have bought FF5 and don't regret it at all, and the ratings are good on the App Store. It is clear that some think this game is worth the asking price.
Bastion was never a proper full-retail game in the first place. It's an indie game and the PC version featured in the Humble Indie Bundle previously. GTA Vice City is $14.99 on the PSN store. The iPad version is priced so much more cheaply because you're replacing excellent joypad controls with passable touch-screen ones. FFV though...well, the iPad version is the best version available. It looks the nicest, has all the extra features of the GBA one, and the controls are just fine.
Well, since they were too lazy to build a save anywhere into GTAs on iOS, they are useless to me. Tried GTAIII and it requires way too much skill and repetition to get anywhere. I also feel that mobile GTAs are intended more as advertising than expected to actually bring in profit. As to Bastion, I love it to bits and IMHO it is an excellent port, but it is also not a full-length game. Yea, I don't like these sprites for FFV either, but then, original art doesn't wow me. I really love the DS remakes, though. But this is immaterial. If Squeenix feels it worth their while to port their console/handheld output, I am all for it. Hopefully, more developers follow suit. After all, finding their games in original formats would still cost more and on iOS one can hope for some player-friendly improvements, like decent auto-save and save anywhere...
Too lazy to try compiling quotes, but... 1) Bastion is full-length. If you mean it's short, then that's just how it's intended. The first Portal was short, but still better than its expanded sequel (which was still great), and I bought Journey before launch, and again on disc (though that was more for a code that is soon to expire). And those two experiences edge out over FFV for me. 2) Faris looks as feminine as any other not-old male (well, okay, than Bartz; haven't seen anyone else's). I don't get where the boobs think comes from, since that could just be those puffy frills one sees in certain fancywear. 3) Aside, the PS1and GBA versions do have exclusive opening movies. I won't so much miss the latter, since it's brash and blaring, especially next the the calm "Prelude" music. I haven't read on iOS having a bestiary or music player, like GBA does; can anyone here confirm these?
Personally, I can't wait to play as Butz! I've never played FF V, and so this will be an absolute treat. If only I hadn't already used up my iTunes allowance I gave myself this month, I'd have gotten it on day 1. Looks like as soon as April 1 rolls around, I'll be picking this one up. But the amount of gaming time I give myself every day hasn't allowed me to finish any of the FF games. I have them all on my devices, and I grind away like crazy... Maybe one of these days I'll finish one of them. But if VI comes out any time this year, I'll be doomed. That'll consume what little game time I have!
I think he just means that it's available on Freeappslots, so if you have enough coins its free. If you end up signing up, I wouldn't mind if you used my referral code! 55tptfvh
I personally am a massive fan of all the old skool FF games (1-6) and have picked this up whilst still playing through 4. Although SE have released some garbage (ATB) there's no questioning their original games, brilliant JRPGs that paved the way for the future. And price wise, I seriously doubt you'll find these games cheaper in many other places. PLUS the added bonus of being able to carry them all round on your phone makes this a no brainer for a FF Fanboy like me!!!
Mmm, cookies... Seriously trying hard to resist Final Fantasy V right now. It has 2D art that I prefer over FF III and FF IV's 3D look. Plus Sanuku's video made the story seem so interesting. Spoiler Dragons, a free chocobo at the start, a giant meteorite, pirates, cool dragon driven pirate ship, mysterious siblings subplot with possible yucky sibling kiss like in Star Wars...
There's no yucky kiss. I doubt there's any kisses in this game. Definitely nothing like Cecil & Rosa's Zot embrace. But, since it doesn't sound like you know much about FFV's plot, I say go get it, while you're still virgin to it! (And the game can be had cheaper as a PSone Classic, at $9.99, but I recommend that version the least.)
