I bought this a while back on sale and hasn't gotten around to it. But making some massive changes to accomodate other games I decided to finally get to this. I've played plenty of SRPGs but, sadly, never this one. I know it's a great game and in many people's eyes the best in it's genre. But I can't help but be let down even with the graphical improvements over how this plays on iOS. It's clearly much deeper than most mobile SRPGs and that can be a good thing, but it just seems really rough for a newcomer to the game to manage the tiny fields, the in-depth micromanagement required for your squad, etc. It may be overwhelming at first even on a larger console, but it 's even more so on an iPhone. And, yes, I went through all the tutorials. Sure, you could set some or most of your group on autopilot, but that takes what likely makes this game more special than it's counterparts out of the equation. And it's frankly annoying as hell to see all the little screens flash away during battle anyway. So here I am debating whether it's worth trudging on with my little iPhone 4S or wait until I can experience it someday on a bigger screen where I can really learn it without feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Maybe I'm in the minority in this one. Is it worth the effort on iPhone? Or should I just save it for my pie in the sky hopes for an iPad or another console version?
Yeah, I've played it mostly on my iPhone 4, but when I fire it up on my iPad 2 it's so much easier to play! I wish we had a thumbstick control option that would allow me to just move the cursor on the battle field instead of having to tap a button, zoom in, tap a button, turn the field, finally see the square I want, then tap on it... only to end up tapping the square next to it, where an enemy resides, and seeing his stats. Yeah, it gets annoying. And the new graphics are great in menus, but the tavern and outfitter looks the same to me. Eh, I'll probably finish it by the time I'm using my new iPhone 8S.
I played the whole story on my iPhone 4S and it plays great. At first, the camera and some of the depth takes a lil getting used to. But a few hours in, and its great. Just find the camera options that work best for you. You can zoom in, rotate, etc. I don't find the controls too hard to use. I haven't played this on iPad, I would imagine it would be easier, BUT I didn't have any problem playign it on iPhone. As for waiting or not, if you like sRPG's you're doing a disservice to yourself by not playing it. The gameplay is amazing and the story is very thought out. Look for a picture on how to unlock the jobs, I think unlocking different jobs and combining abilities from different jobs is what makes this game utterly fun.
I played and loved FFT:Advance way back in time and was about to drag the old GameboyAdvance SP (dont laugh!) out and play it again. How difficult is WotL in comparison? I remember keeping a notebook when I played FFT:Advance to keep track of my team, I like complex games. My other question about WofL is how WELL does it play on an iPhone? Is it difficult to manuver, picking out the tiles for moves, etc.? I have read through most of the 80+ page WofL thread here but no definitive conclusions. I like gaming on my phone so I can take it with me. I don't play much on my ipad. Off topic: any other suggestions for a tactical rpg? I don't like games set in space or mech/robot types either. I have Great Little/Big War Games, I don't want another war game. Looking for something with a story, however weak it may be. I've been googling this topic like mad, Rebirth of Fortune 1/2 were mentioned...any good? Any others?
If you're looking for a tactics iOS title this is the one to get, especially since you're already familiar with how FFTactics works. The controls work great once you figure out that there's a toggle to rotate the board around and another toggle for dragging to a different position. That control can be a little cumbersome at first. In comparison to any other tactic game on the App Store including FFTactics Advance you won't find a more engaging story than War of the Lions. There isn't any silly story of a boy reading a book and magically being whisked away to another dimension. It's Game of Thrones minus the sex. Actually Xcom's gameplay and story rivals War of the Lions, which would be my second pick, but it's really a toss between medieval fantasy or sci fi, and the unit customization in Xcom isn't as deep as FFTactics. Oh and it's definitely challenging, late 90's gameplay no handholding style.
I have this on my iPhone 4, but can't handle the lag and don't want to re-purchase for iPad. So my question is how does it play on 5s? Any lag or crashes?
I have it on my ipod touch 5g (comparable to the 4s generally), and I don't have any lags or crashes. Though I believe it has an autosave if it crashes but I can't remember if I'm confusing that with another ff title.
This has played fine on my 5s, but the screen is not iphone 5 optimized so it'll have black bars on each side. They've updated FF3 with suedo iphone 5 support. But really they just Streched the image. Maybe they'll do that with their other back catalogue.
It doesn't but that shouldn't stop you. Turns out this IS the definitive version because for some strange / awesome reason, SQE decided to redo all the graphics and they're freakin gorgeous. You can back track on the thread to see some comparison shots I made.
I think I mentioned it before but if you're on the fence, you should just buy this game. It's the definitive version of FFT.
Agreed - still hoping they add support for the iPhone 5 resolution, though. Considering the age of the game, I'm probably being wildly unrealistic, but there you go.
Anyone know how this game plays on iPhone 6/ios 8? There are only a couple of recent reviews on the appstore, so there's not a whole lot to go on for its performance on new devices.
So apparently this version runs much better than the PSP version, this is compared when it was released on the iPad 2. I would expect this game at 60 FPS unless the engine is broken on the A8 SOC. Does this game have voice acting? I know the PSP American version apparently did but not sure about this one.
Yeah, my concern is that the engine might be broken on newer devices or OS (this has been the case with some other Square Enix games). Has anyone tried it?
RoboWarrior: This is a port of the PSP version, so yes, there are voices, but only in the animated cutscenes. Poetric: I've got an iPad mini 2 running 8.1.2 and have had no issues with FFT. I haven't done a full playthrough on 8.1.2 yet, but I've done a few battles and it hasn't even hiccuped once.
Hey everyone. Noticed this was on sale and was wondering: - Does this have iCloud saves? - How are the pixelated graphics / sprites? Does it look clear/sharp or blurry overall? - Is it worth buying this on sale, or just playing it on an emulator/otherwise?
