Really want to see a screenshot of the improved version
The app is still quite expensive... Still debating if I should get this or 16 99c ones : P

I'm hoping that also. I heard it was supposed to come out this year, so they're running out of time.

This will probably give you more gameplay and replay value than 16 $0.99 games combined.

I'll try to post some tonight. It looks freaking gorgeous. The only thing that sucks is that now I have to eat a my words about the CT and SoM ports ;). They should both be made as beautiful as this one.

Well, it seems SE saw that the number of FFT sales warranted the expense of the graphical update; if CT also sells well, they might do the same thing. Seems a little backwards, but it does make sense.

CT and SoM should definitely be redone. FFT looks really beautiful. However, I am still glad that today was not the actual release date of FFT. I wouldn't want to wait for a release of CT either. To me, the gameplay is so solid and I love these game so much that retina display is just icing on the already delicious cake that I get to enjoy now. Make that frosting, I hate icing.

Anybody noticing an improvement in the performance on a 3GS? Downloading now - about 4 hours on my very slow internet connection. :D

    For those wanting screenshots:

    (click for retina)

The sprites have nice clean edges (at any zoom), backgrounds and other 3D objects are now rendered at native resolution and the text no longer hurts to read.

Impressive! Re-buying right now. The text is so clear now, and they didn't even have to change the font... Hah! I'm hoping that they'll add retina display and hi-res sprites to CT and SoM as well.

How did they do it? The filesize is just 4mb bigger!!:eek::eek:

(Retina support usually doubles the filesize, eg. Plants vs Zombies, Robot Unicorn Attack)

Is it really retina display? The graphic improves a bit on my iPhone 4 but definitely won't give you a "wow" factor. The texts look much better now, the sprites remain to look pixels in zoom.

Anyway, not a bad update. I also found the camera's rendering is much smoother and faster.

I am glad Square Enix took the time to fix the camera's control and now somewhat enhanced graphics, especially in the text department. Finally, I felt I got my money worth.

Yes, it is really retina. It's also a pixelated game. The two are not mutually exclusive.

The FFT page states that this update was to rework the art for the icons/UI elements/dialogue boxes, etc. It also mentions that "higher resolution unit character graphics" are planned for the future, which sounds like an overhaul of the battlefield/unit artwork is intended. Considering the amount of work that will have to go into that, it's fair enough that this update came out separately.
