I replied to the original question by PM so as to keep the thread on subject. But to quickly summarize: my experience has been good overall, with the caveat that I have a fast broadband connection and there are server farms reasonably close to my location. As long as you are comfortable with only virtual ownership of games (and you don't have a souped up PC), it's definitely a good deal, particularly with the frequent Steam-style sales that crop up. You also get to demo most games, which is very helpful.
Thank you, much appreciated. Just to remain in topic, I just saw a really nice plot ingame cutscene while traversing Ivalice and all of a sudden (no loading and greatly unexpected) was granted with a little fantastic 'Miyazaki' 2 minute movie. This is my RPG Nirvana.
Best part is you can watch every cutscene in order to whatever point you are in the game if you go to the Chronicle and choose events. Pick the scene you'd like to rewatch by tapping the description of it in the window.
I have played this years ago on PS1, so I don't remember a whole lot it. I eventually brought this, wasn't sure at first, but now I really appreciate the story and the depth of the game.
Yes yes I spend in the Chronicle almost all my free time when I'm not actively playing it (for the utter joy of my wife, I might add ). It's fantastic. Now I finally grasped most of the combat/equipment/job advancement the story flows much more fluently...I'm a total newbie in this genre but the initial fights are a bit too difficult IMHO and can scare many players off. The satisfaction when you survive is really great though.
Thank you, I managed to survive but I wondered. Ramza got Doomed the FIRST turn of the fight I need another advice...I survived a series of battles but now I've only 2 chemist and 2 knights in my party (Ramza included). Everyone else I got from the start died I know you can hire new squires but they are level 1. Do you think I have some possibilities to continue the game? Or better restart over? I'm actually at Spoiler The windmill where the rebels leader escape and you do not find Tiegra, already won the battle Thanks!!!
Been pretty addicted to this and playing it nonstop since the weekend. I never played the PSP version so I'm just discovering the new localization of the script and it is fantastic. who is the team that localized this script? They deserve huge kudos. The original FFT story made absolutely zero impression on me mostly because I couldn't make heads or tails of ANY of the plot points but this translation is simply engrossing on many levels. The narration/dialogue is the perfect reward for progressing through the campaign. Great stuff. Now all we need is asynchronous multiplayer over Gamecenter.
Game Impressions I've played S&S, Battleheart, Hunters (and like them as they are). So here's a brief impression from a dude that likes these kinda games. Like: Story, gameplay, depth, autosave, cutscenes No-Like: slowdown, dated graphics Hated: Attacking / Healing a unit i didn't intend to. (controls are touchy, mind the pun ) in a nutshell: $16 is a lot to pay for, and FFT is a game that has a lot to give. Minus the gripes of having to dig through menu items, it does feel like I'm holding a virtual PlayStation controller playing a console game. Comparatively to the other, and much cheaper, iOS givings: One thing they lack is the depth of FFT, in terms of story, lore and gameplay. Regardless of how old the cover looks like, dig deep enough, there's much to be enjoyed.
I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but-- if you're running a jailbroken device and have slowdown issues, try putting it into Safe Mode. Without all of my random tweaks and themes running, FFT has almost 60 fps.
Third time I've purchased this game for 3 different systems now. Love it. If they improve on the graphics and make it faster for the IPad version, I may consider buying an IPad 3 just for this game. I know that sounds crazy, but I think it has a potential to be a system seller. Question for those that have played this a couple of times. Do you prefer making up your parties from scratch or using the story characters that join you?
I dump the story characters and recruit others with better stats, unless of course the default ones have great Brave and Faith.
I meant the guest characters that then ask to join. Tring not to spoil. Do you prefer them or the generics.
I prefer training my own. I have also never recruited a unit. I just never let any of the people in my main party die- I can raise their faith and bravery later with abilities if I need to.
