Proud owner of both! Wesnoth is more comparable to Fire Emblem, or even Advance Wars, to be honest. This game is the spiritual successor to Tactics Ogre. Both this and Wesnoth have depth. Wesnoth has more content, a larger overall "world" and history, etc. FFT has a deeper storyline and invests you more. Wesnoth has a Fire Emblem-esque/Ogre series character growth system. Characters advance to a certain point, then can promote down branching paths within that class range. FFT has a deeper and more flexible job system. Death is permanent in both, but FFT gives you a window to revive before death takes hold. Hope that helps! As for content updates, I could maybe see this getting multiplayer. Just since it was in the PSP version. InfinityBlade got it's arena mode, so it's feasible.
Mate you picked a wrong exampled. Monkey Island is one the best games of all time, check out the lists. It's on par with Final Fantasy Tactics, just different genre. Sure it has less playing time, but in the end both games are on the same level. Cut the rope and Infinity Blade on the other hand, are several classes below. They're not all time greats, not even the best of this generation.. I get your point though
Is there a guide somewhere for this? I remember playing this for the PS1 and being absolutely terrible at it. Don't get me wrong, I loved it and desperately wanted to be good at it, but I never got there. Perhaps if I had a guide or something to at least start with it would help. I remember a friend telling me that the game is unbearably difficult at the beginning when you have no jobs, no abilities, and very little equipment. It gets easier as you gain stuff but is hard in the beginning. Any useful tips to get me over the hump?
Is anyone else's game crashing a lot when played on iPad 2? I've had to start again twice and it crashed right before you can save the game for the first time on both occasions. Re-downloaded on iPhone 4 and no problems so far, I thought all games should run fine on the iPad?
@Chross: GameFAQs is your friend here- there are plenty of guides on there for the original PSOne and PSP versions, which will help you no end with this one.
Yes, I've played less than an hour so far and had two crashes. Luckily, the game seems to save after every turn, so when I re-start the game I don't lose any progress. It is annoying, but not as bad as if it didn't have the auto-save functionality. Also, I'm on iOS5 beta, so that may have something to do with it.
I dunno, my iPhone's iOS 5 beta 4 and like I said it's had no problems. It kept crashing on the iPad at that academy bit. I re-read the app description and it does mention it's designed only for iPod and iPhone 4's. So have they nerfed it so I have to get the iPad version when it's released?
Hours upon hours of replayablility and tons of free battles (Kind of like skirmish modes). Against the AI.
Finally was able to download. Enjoying it so far, going to finish it for the nth time already I wish they would not just improve on the slowdown.. but eliminate it completely. I dont care about retina that much, I just want the speed which the original version had.
Which means he can't get recommendations of which to purchase...? They're not even "completely different" they are both turn-based strategy RPGs.
Does anybody have this working on iOS 5 beta? I'm running iOS 5 beta 4 on an iPhone 4 (AT&T) and I can't select anything on the main menu. I can skip the intro movies fine, but I just can't do anything at the main menu...
The more I play on my iPad the more I realize it is virtually unplayable. In around 2 hours of play I've had probably around 10 crashes at this point and I've lost progress on a few of them. Not recommended for iPad users...
This probably sounds stupid but how do you change jobs? I have a squire that has a job level of 2 and when i go to press OK on Knight, nothing happens. I just return to the character stats. It doing it with all my characters despite having a job level of 2 in squire and chemist.
When I read that "designed for ..." bit I really read: "this is the only version of the OS for which we have got the product to run, this is also the reason behind the delayes earlier"
Well the slowdown on my iphone4 is very very noticable. It needs to be fixed. An 8 year old game should not be slowing down my iphone4. Also they need to sort the text, its super blurry. Other than that a decent port of the game.
God why would you not want to listen to this game's magnificent score? I've listened to mostly this soundtrack for the last six months in anticipation for this game's release and I am still not tired of it. My opinion is that this is the greatest musical score to any movie or video game ever - can't believe someone would complain about it, but to each their own I suppose... EDIT: don't mean to sound rude and I am all for choices but I think I was more trying to point out to anyone on the fence about buying this game that it has an epic orchestral score rivaling any movie or video game.
I agree, the FFT score is fantastic. Also don't understand the complaints about the text being blurry, I think they are perfectly find and I have no problem reading any of it. Anyway, I'm not that far into the first chapter... played the PSX and PSP versions many times and loved the game, so far I'm enjoying this version just as much.
