i really don't think 15 dollars for a game that was originally 30-50 is so bad. I would buy it.

They should maximize their revenues by charging $999, then.

If the FF: Tactics port is better than Chaos Rings, and/or Crimson Gem Saga I would buy it.
I plan on buying it anyways in a couple of days xD

Yeah, look at Crystal Defenders. It's a good game but $7.99 is a little steep for what you get considering FF1 and FF2 are $1 more and they're psp ports just like FFT.

15$ is more than fair for this awesome and full game. Intros, lots of levels, story, if we want big games we have to pay or big companies will only sell little games for a dollar and for that I prefer indie games.
I have the Psp version and I will buy iPod version too.

Want big games from big companies ? Look at gameloft. I bought most of their games for 0.99$ (NOVA,Brother in Arms 2,Modern Combat,Dungeon Hunter,Gangstar and even more that i can't remember..)

Gameloft is a big company in the mobile game community. He's talking about companies that make games for PS3/XBOX/PC/NDS/whatever etc. I know there are some already, but more would be good too :p

I see your point but you can't really compare Gameloft with Squareenix and FF Tactics with Nova. Gameloft is a mobile company that is growing a lot with the iPhone. And with that 0,99$ sales i will not buy games at launch price no matter how good the game. I expect big companies to not go cheap but I know lot of people buy 1$ only

Sorry, 15 bucks for what is essentially a 12 year old game, no matter how great (and it is a great game) is too much. I had no issues with paying 12.99 for chaos rings as it was something new, but paying more for a port? Nope, not happening.

And people really need to stop comparing the prices of the originals with app store prices; they're two totally different market systems, and simply not comparable.

I'm not a Gameloft basher, but the comparison simply doesn't hold. It's not an issue of wether GL makes mobile games or not. The scale difference between FFT and something like BiA2 is massive. GL does have a few AAA properties like Splinter Cell and PoP: WW, neither of which has ever gone down below 6.99 (yet).

I would be surprised if SE prices FFT at $15.00, if only because Chaos Rings was so successful at $12.99. Guess we'll see.

Different market systems? All of the dollars in my wallet are green and look pretty much the same. I can't really see the difference between "PSP dollars" and "iOS dollars", no matter how hard I look.

$15 is too much for a Iphone/Itouch game.
If it was for Ipad, I would think about it.. knowing I had it for another console and spent over 300+ hours on it.

Well let me explain it so even you can understand.

PSP: Different production; meaning UMD, packaging, shipping, fighting for shelf space; multiple retailers. MSRP of 39.99 for FFT doesn't mean that's what you pay. There are sales, the ability to buy it used, off ebay, etc. Aside from the labor costs of creating the game, there's production costs to make those UMD's, packaging etc, so it's priced accordingly.

iOS: Only available from the app store as a download. No production costs (other than the cost to port it, which is going to be much, much lower than all the production costs of a physical copy). The only sales will be those that SE decide on, and those generally are few and far between, and only a couple bucks off most of the time). No packaging, no shipping, no fighting for shelf space. Some advertising costs, maybe-but most people who are going to buy FFT already know about it.

Different economic systems that only have one thing in common, the color of your money.

Actually, I only buy download PSP games, so none of this is even true for me.

But it is true that the PSPgo hasn't been very successful, for many of the reasons you imply: while people like the convenience of downloading games, they don't like the high pricing, lack of resale, etc.

That said, the discount from $40 to $15 seems to pretty well reflect all of the issues you're talking about.

There's 2 issues at stake. First is the issue of cost/distribution. The higher the distribution, the lower the cost. And you're right. pricing down by $25 seems more than enough. The problem is the second part: pricing competitively. No price point is in a void. If a person looking for iphone games sees that they can buy one game for $15, or 5 highly rated games for the same price, lets say rolando 2, spider secret of bryce manor, jet car stunts, and real racing. or replace them with whatever your choice in style. But for me to get 4 incredibly high quality games, or one high quality game, there isnt really a choice. They will sell more games if they price lower, its just a fact. The question is, what is the lowest price you can push the game to while maximizing distribution and profit. I think $15 might be above that price point.

I'd rather get FF:Tactics over 4 games any day. I actually never played this on any platform besides briefly on the ps 1. I am looking forward to it revamped on the os platform.

The price of Xbox retail 360 games are the same, whether you download them over Xbox live or buy them at the store. The Price of PSP games are the same, whether you download them over the PSN Network or buy them at the store. The price of full retail albums are the same, whether you download them off of iTunes or buy them at the store. The price of new release movies are the same, whether you download them from Xbox Live, the PSN Network, or iTunes, or buy them at the store. The price of new release PC games are the same, whether you download them Direct-To-Drive or buy them at the store. PC programs, like Microsoft Office or Final Draft, are the same, whether you download them from the official site or buy them at the store.

Digital downloads are NOT cheaper then owning physical copies. They aren't. Not in the retail world. They just aren't. They will never be cheaper. Never, ever, ever. You're just going to have to deal with that fact, because crying about it isn't going to change anything.

With that said, I'm sick of Square-Enix and their lazy porting. I will not buy this, not neccessarily because of the price, but because SE has already ported and/or whored this game out to every system known to man. Enough is enough. I've grown weary of their cash-cow mentality.

With XBOX and PSN, the price is the same because it is meant for the companies to profit more by not going through distribution channels, but Sony and Microsoft charge those developers for putting their games in their respective networks. So I still think that ScottColbert's argument is sound.

And yes, they (SE) have ported some of them, give them mediocre touch functionality, and sell them at pretty steep price. That's because economy in Japan works better that way. Konami which has offices throughout the world and doesn't really rely on one head office in Japan, sold games like Phoenix Wright (which is also a port) with much longer gameplay at much cheaper price than SE's ports. Final fantasy 1 for example can be finished in two days. Can't do that with phoenix wright since one chapter can take up to 10+ hours. So what justifies SE to sell their games that high a price? Again, because in Japan, everything is just outrageously expensive and that is how they operate. Different culture different approach to marketing.

I commend you for saying that you will not be buying this game when it comes out but thousands, if not millions, of other people will still buy this game because:

    1. it's released by Square-Enix
    2. it has 'final fantasy' on its title
    3. it has 'tactics' on its title
    4. google it and you'll find reviews from major gaming websites saying that it's a sweet game

Most people just don't give a damn about the price. Which is why you see that there are people buying more than 1 gps app throughout the year and yet still buy a physical one to be installed in their cars.
