Yeah, you're are right about gameplay, it's kinda complex, I know... But I still think that if they have a professional iOS department, history would be different... And I could have done more research about CR, but even in my lack of information I was right... The Square approach to iOS is just sad... It's like "we are here, but no real effort whatsoever"... They are just doing what jailbroken people are doing a long time ago, with a price tag... I don't know, Thaurin, you don't see Capcom pulling stunts like that... I have to agree that Capcom Arcade App Blablabla is terrible, but Street Fighter 4 shines, you know... And Sega is at least trying...
Don't forget that this game can easily last 40 hours, I could easily play it for 100 hours. I do not think it is a very easy game to port, considering how extensive the storyline is with all the dungeons and even the cloud strife bit. To this day it is probably the best SRPG I have played, not that I have played many SRPGs... But this thread is meant to build hype for the game, and I am hoping that if this port does well, square might want to port more of their other games over. FFV and FFVI are definitely possible, on a jailbroken iphone, the emulator can run those SNES games. FFVII is a bit too optimistic I think, because they almost definitely will not build the from the ground up for this version, so the platform is not powerful enough. I am definitely going to support this game, the only problem is that I feel that it will not be appreciated in the appstore.
You know, I really want to support this game too, but for the reasons that I stated above, I got totally disappointed... Of course I will still buy it, but the way that Square's approaching the iOS only makes me think that the game wouldn't be good as it could be... I'm not ranting on the FFT thread because I don't want, or don't like the game, is totally the opposite.
I think SE is testing the waters of the app store a bit with War of the Lions. To see if a hardcore iOS demographic exists that will play a 50 hour game on an iPhone. They'll be testing the pricing boundary too. If it does well, expect to see more of an effort from them in the future IMO. Maybe some original games; but surely more ports. On a side note, how many times do people wanna play FF7 FFS? It already got the PSP/PS3 port fans were moaning for. If it was a remake (graphics, new content) exclusive to iOS, now that would have me stoked.
I think this is a good thing, though. With FFT and SoM (eventually) coming out, if they do well, then we can hope to see even better stuff. I was a bit afraid that Square-Enix might give up on the iOS, considering that their first few attempts with mediocre games probably didn't do that well. I don't know why some companies decide to test using lesser titles and then come to the conclusion that it's not worth it. Maybe it really isn't worth their time, but they won't find out until they try with a worthwhile game. That's just my opinion, though.
Damn this game made me fall in love with SRPG and I haven't played any that matched it yet. There was even a Calculator class! I mean, how can you beat that? And the story was epic. Wasn't just for kiddies, there was some real drama and betrayal going on.
I've only played the FFT for the Gameboy Advance and I loved it, I kept meaning to get a PSP and play the remake but never did, and now probably never will. Needless to say I'm really looking forward to it. Very few ports come out for the iOS that you can tell will work almost effortlessly, like World of Goo for instance
Well thanks for the news. No mention of secrets of mana though, does that mean its still coming out this year? *Fingers Crossed*
I can't be the only person here who is actually relived about this, so we can focus on the other holiday releases, then have this to relieve the springtime doldrums! Everyone wins!
Exactly my thoughts! I hope they just make an appropriate iDevice version, no matter how long it takes!
How far would iOS hardware have to go to handle a game like FF7? The file size might be a little big, but what about processing?
funny how you wrote "relived" when you meant relieved, and then wrote "relieve" when you meant relive
