I have a question, which archer abilities should I not even bother with? I know I have to level the job to at least 4 if I plan to build some ninjas, but any idea if I'll be using any of the other abilities from this class later on? I found out aim is useless so that I can forget, and jump +1 is a waste of time because you unlock jump +2 with a thief, but what about concentration, adrenaline rush, archer's bane, or equip crossbows? Will I be regretting life later if I don't grab any of these?
No. There are better inherents and counters out there. Adrenaline rush is probably the most useful archer ability. You can combine equip crossbows with some other abilities in jobs for some nifty effects, but I'm pretty sure equip gun would be more useful. Archers really aren't very useful if you're not restricting the jobs you use.
I think concentration would be good, I haven't tried it but against Wiegraf (Final) I was only getting a 66% hit change and 100% would have been very useful since its 1v1
Been really enjoying this despite the interface, I can see this being the best TBS ever Question about recruiting: I purchased a male (70B 64F) and female (66B 68F) as soon as was able to, smart move or a waste of 3000 Gil early in the game? I noticed that some of the starting party members have rather mediocre bravery and/or faith. However, it's now difficult to have everyone equipped properly so I'm grinding the plain. My two purchased units I plan on taking all the way to the end game if possible...
@L.Lawliet: try getting the reflex ability for your ninja- that boosts evasion, and if you have the right accessories equipped, then it compensates for the ninjas relatively low health, since enemies will now be attacking you with very low probability of success. Also, it frees up the ability slot that you'd use for 'equip armor' to be used for 'equip swords', which i found to be more useful since the ninja is all about rushing around the battlefield and taking guys out before they can act.
It's a great move, I did the same except highest brave I could get was 69, and I tried forever. I stripped my default players before I sent them packing though, and sold their gear.
There might be a reason at some point to have characters with really low brave or really low faith... just saying' is all.
Just keep one character with low brave for treasure hunting(some rare items). With faith if you are sure the character will be pure physical the having low faith is not that bad.
15 hours in (just finished Chapter 1) and am noticing something a bit odd in some of the story battles. I have spent a significant amount of time leveling in random battles, and have my entire party in the 23-25 level range. Since the story battles are locked into a certain level, I end up fighting against enemies that are 10-15 levels lower than me (typically around level 9-11). Oddly, they still manage to do massive amounts of damage to my higher level characters. For example, Ramza is a level 25 Monk equipped with Heavy Armor (using the Knight's ability), yet a level 10 enemy knight just landed a non-critical hit that took away nearly half my HP. In fact, that low-level Knight just did more damage than most of the 25th level monsters I'm fighting in random battles. I'm either doing something seriously wrong in my character development/equipping, or the game gives the lower-level characters in story battles some serious buffs. Anyone else notice this?
Final Fantassy review My friend has played this and said she knows the whole plot LOL but I think its a pretty iteresting game. I mean I wouldnt wanna play 24/7 but it definately ccatches my eye
I'm not going to lie, there are some seriously hard story battles. Which one are you up to? Anyway, it could be many things, fiddle around with your jobs, abilities and equipment. Diversity within your party will also help you (I dislike having 2 of the same job unless i'm training)- And I find a healer (White Mage/Priest (For US I think) or chemist) very useful. Also try to fill all the ability slots: Actions 1 and 2, Counter, Continuous, Movement (Move+ is good)
Armor and levels don't have an effect on lowering damage received like in most RPGs. In other words, there's no defense. There's a whole bunch that goes into damage, and knights already hit for a lot. If the knight had a good zodiac alignment, and a decent weapon equipped he/she could easily do that much damage. Same level knights have a good chance of just killing characters outright.
I just finished Chapter 1, and loved every second of it! So far I've felt the difficulty in story battles have been pretty on par with my own skills and lvls allowing for a good amount of challenge. I might be abusing magical spell power strength a bit too much, for the last battle I just kicked it behind the fortress until most of the enemy units clumped up on the left side then completely destroyed everyone with Blizzaga. I initially wanted to kill everyone before working on Spoiler Argath but maybe my zodiac alignment with him and my black mage were spot on for massive damage. Anyway, looks like I'll be multi grinding chemist abilities for my party like Skymuffin had suggested. Don't think I can go much farther with just potion and phoenix down unlocked.
this game it's so hard and annoying i'm about to delete it ! UGH i can't even win battles on the first chapter wtf the monsters are lvl 4 and my warriors are lvl 2 and those friken chickens UGH they are strong! and how do u catch them? i want some on my team lol nad how i get some mages? ps. srry for my bad english
Quick upgrades after Chapter 1 Spoiler Small tip to quick upgrades after Ch. 1, take all of Gaffgarion and Agrias' gear, and equip them with gear you have in inventory. You'll get some nice armor and a power bracelet.
Is it worth it to work your way up to the Onion Knight? I'm early in the game right now, just building up my Knight and Archer and wondering what jobs would be good to work up to for the long haul.
Turn everyone into Knights, and then grab armor at Eagros. The armor will give them a lot of badly needed HP. That's how I got through the beginning.
At what point does anyone think I should remove the Jp boost from ramza and start using dual weapon equip? It's a fine balance between earning double Jp and doing double damage with better weapons than the ninja.
For what is worth (total newbie here) I finished the game and I still have Double JP But, in all honesty, after I maxed out Ramza as a Knight I didn't even bother to change Job. Using Ramza as a knight and, except the very beginning, a party of 'special' NPCs (the ones you find in Ivalice) I had no problem to finish the game aside from 4-5 REALLY HARD fights. As soon as you find a particoular NPC (let's just say it's a knight with a very famous sword) I pratically cruised the main storyline and the subquests...it's a BEAST I'm still playing tough...still great.
- Fight some random battles instead of story battles, then the enemies will be the same level as you. Have at least one chemist/white mage dedicated to healing. Surround and kill off the Chocobos first, or they'll just run off and heal. - You will be able to recruit a Chocobo in a story mission early in chapter 2. Alternatively, the Orator skills Entice and Tame can permanently add monsters to your party. Or, you can use the thief skill Steal Heart to have it fight for your temporarily in a battle. - To get mages, advance to level 2 Chemist, then white mage and black mage will open up in the job menu. Once you unlock a few jobs, the battles will get a little easier. I found an unarmed Ninja with Brawler pretty much destroyed every boss I faced. Ramza was doing 300+ damage per punch. He was one hit KOing bosses until the end of the game.
