I'd love this game even if it was a direct port of the ds version. Updated graphics and any other changes are just icing on an already sweet cake. As long as they nail the controls, I'll be happy :)

I got through the entire game with a very appropriate amount of challenge, and only really remember grinding for quite a while before the final dungeon. Went through the last dungeon which is quite long, and then I...

    *POSSIBLE SPOILERS (?)*

...fought a fake last boss (if I remember correctly, it's been since the game first came out on DS that I've played it), only to be taken to another area where you have to defeat 4 more bosses with a good amount of random battles in-between. I disposed of them quite easily with the vast majority of my HP/MP and items, and moved onto the end of the game boss, who did things to my team (again, the exact specifics fail me) to basically wipe them all out in about three turns. There are no save points after you start the final dungeon, so I was sent back a good 2~3 hours to before entering the final dungeon. I went to the boards and supposedly what the boss did to me was a freak "rare" occurrence, so after wiping off some hardened man tears, I picked up my game and started the dungeon again. Spent two or three hours getting back, same exact thing happened. Mouth agape, I then spent a good 4~5 hours grinding even more, getting well above the recommended level, went back through the final hours of the game a third time, and was wiped out, the same way, again. Soooooo YouTube provided me with the very final moments of FFIII.

I really enjoyed the game overall. The journey throughout was phenomenal and I had an absolute blast playing it (I love the FF job system), but the final boss specifically frustrated me to a point of slight insanity, and while I'm really looking forward to playing the game again, I'm most definitely not looking forward to that final fight... Perhaps I was doing it wrong, but I've got a good 17 years of RPG/video game experience, have played every single FF to completion, went on boards and searched through guides to look up job class/boss strategies and what not, only to be continuously taken down by what I felt like was complete bad-luck. I've had friends that were way more under-leveled than I was that had zero problems. Hopefully my torment at the hands of FFIII happens to no one else!

To explain my earlier cynicism having grown up with Final Fantasy 1 I was disappointed the iOS edition of the first was an easier bastardization of the original... but still good enough so don't get me wrong I'm psyched about FF3j (which seems very faithful to the japanese NES, which I never played anyway).

Since I have no other outlet to fantasize about FF6j escaping onto iOS I'll rant here. I sure hope FF6j sees the light of day on iOS, I would quit my job. Since FF6j was re-released on both Playstation and Gameboy I imagine Square still has the rights. From wikipedia. "On April 27, 2010, Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto stated that the development of a remake of Final Fantasy VI for the Nintendo DS is at present undecided due to technical issues. Later, however, Square discussed remaking VI as well as V for the newly announced 3DS." (Dream a little dream for me...)

No. Copyright holder for the complete FF series is Square / Enix.

So I have always been a huge fan of the Tactics offerings from Square, ie: FFT for Playstation/PSP, FFT Advanced for GBA, etc. I loved the job classes, all with different abilities.

I realize a turn based RPG is different in many ways from a turn based tactics game, but how similar are the job mechanics to games like those I mentioned above? Does each job have a *number* of skills? Or just one skill that makes them special? Can you 'learn' job skills such that they are still available when you switch to a different job? Are certain items only usable by certain jobs?

    Hi.
The mechanic is different and mostly depend on wich FF you're playing since it evolved in every sequel.
If we're talking about FF III:

    - Each job got a single special skill.
For example the Warrior got "Advance", a high damaging blow but reducing the charachter defense.
Some Jobs can also use magic in addition (with the classic Fire, Heal and cie spells), like the Knight.

The interesting part about jobs is also the statistics of your charachter. A Warrior got more attack, defense and life than a Mage, whose got more intelligence or energy, for example.

    - When you're switching to a different job (you can do it whenever you want when you've learn how to in FF III, not the same in the other FF except the V if I remember correctly) you cant use the skills of the precedent one.
Its just like a "reset" to another job (same goes for the stats, but according to the level you've reached).
Thats something better in the end, forcing you to choose the right job for everyone in your team and being tactic in you're fight depending on the ennemy.
Also prevent the player to make a "god" charachter, would be too easy.

    - Yes certain items are ony usable by certain jobs, such as the Mage will use staff, the Warrior swords, the Monk fists...

If you want to know about all the jobs, check this (do not if you want to discover this by yourself while playing): http://www.ffworld.com/?rub=ff3&page=jobs

    Thats it.
Pardon me if you didnt understand some part, Im french and still learning english lol.

Merci Syndrome! Yes, I didn't want to visit all the guide sites as I was afraid of spoilers and not discovering the various jobs myself. I appreciate the write-up and understood all of your English ( you are doing much better with your English than I ever did with my two years of college French ).

Dang! I almost though you were saying that FFIII and FFT:WoTL will be released simultaneously. Guess that one must wait, huh?

Yeah it doesn't really make sense at all. Maybe a separate retina version?

I think they mean all 8 languages will be released simultaneously.

But that's just un-practical. Why not release the game with all of them languages embedded into the game rather than releasing them as separate IPAs.

Anytime from next next minute until March, 31st, midnight.

Seriously, nobody knows because an official release date wasn't announced.

And it is not neccessary for S/E to release their games with a big bang or on thursdays to get attention... at release, most of the iOS roleplayers attention will automatically focus on Final Fantasy III. The word spreads faster than a virus.

I bet they don't set a release date because of Apple's unpredictable review process timeline. It'd actually be cool of Square Enix if they just released it for download ASAP on approval rather than holding it back for some silly launch date.
