Damn, after being SoOoOoOo disappointed with the fact that I couldn't play The World Ends with You on my iPod Touch, I decided to spend little by little of my $30 on other games. Now I only have $16 on my iTunes account and THIS game comes out. I can't even purchase the full game! =O Anyway, what's with all the underwhelming feedback? From what I saw in the video on the front page, it took me back to classic FF with a new story. FF VI is my all-time favourite, but I'm not expecting top tier quality like that with this one. I just want to play an FF title that won't be compared and rather be seen and experienced as its own. I'm gonna play the prologue later tonight, but I enjoyed FF3 (until I accidentally deleted it due to updating complications) and I can definitely see myself loving this game even before playing it too.
It's just a good ol' Final Fantasy game. People just like to complain, specially those that played only FF7 and above.
Can someone tell me if this game gets significantly harder after the Prologue? I'm a classic FF nut, but I breezed straight through the Prologue on auto-battle without ever having to think at all. I chocobo'd my way to the cave and did zero grinding, so there's no chance I was over-leveled. Makes me wary of buying in.
Does anyone knows where is Spoiler the hidden switch/button/whatever in Liene Castle? They say that I should look for a secret passage that the guy used, and when I interact with the bookshelf I get a message that it won't buldge. I feel I'm stuck...
@ednan: Spoiler You have to go to one of those pots on the lower left side and pick some water up. Then, you walk to the flowers and pour the water on them. The invisible guy runs away and moves the bookshelf to the side
No offense, but how can somebody call themselves a classic FF nut and not know the answer to that question? Of course it gets harder on the next chapter. That boss that kicked your ass at the end of the Prologue? You got to kill him with a not-much-more-powerful party within 20 minutes of Chapter 1.
But... Spoiler I can have acess only to the pots with something disgusting and the poisoned nuts! I imagined that it had something to do with the flowers... How am I supposed to reach the other pot NVM, I did it... stupid wall
Spoiler Just walk "under" it and you should reach it. It's a bit hard to explain but it is no problem, just try it out!
Thanks for the response. I don't think the snideness is justified though. I've been playing FF games since the very beginning, and the first chapter of many classic FF games would destroy you if you played them in the way I just played the Prologue of FF: Dimensions. Beating Garland in FF1 the first time required leveling a time or two, stocking up on provisions, probing the Temple of Fiends to make sure you could survive (and collecting the goodies), resting up, and finally going for it. This game required turning on auto-battle and charging to the finish line. Glad to hear it gets harder though.
Remember this game is not nearly as old as FF1, so it shouldn't be compared in terms of difficulty. Old games usually were harder and required more grinding to make them longer.
I did zero grinding in the first hour+ of FF2, 3, and 6. FF1 is probably the exception, but the game is ancient in many other ways as well. In any event, the point of the prologue is to get you to the confrontation in the crystal temple and to familiarize new players with the combat system -- basically a tutorial. It's not surprising that you can chocobo through it (I have to remember the phrase). Sorry if I sounded snide, but the notion that the difficulty would remain steady through an entire 50 hour + Final Fantasy game is kind of ridiculous.
I have been playing all day. Just made it to part 3 of chapter 2. Chapter 2 is soo long. And this game is most definetly amazing. TA needs to do a new review based on the whole game. Not just the begining.
