Amazing port, but they really REALLY need to sort out the mfi controls, as I really want to play it this way instead of touchscreen. Currently waiting on my phone until this happens, fingers crossed
Dear God... These devs did it again. The new update now allows virtual game pad to respond beyond the in-game screen. Now it'll play like an absolute gem. Someone give these devs an award and a raise (looking at you SQE). Sorry, don't see any mention about mifi but those might be more difficult for them. And probably their priority is the game itself / touch interface and then the external features, which would make sense.
I wish they give these guys the rights to fix and maintain Drakerider. ... And then have them port Drakerider 1 & 2, and the Front Mission series. And Xeno-fuggin-gears. Cheers!
^^This!! This Thai team are amazing! I believe the virtual controls full-screen fix was one of the most hotly requested features and these guys are pumping out the updates quickly! So happy to have a responsive and proactive dev team on this! I own all of the FF ports to iOS except for FF7 and I can say that this is by far the best port of them all (and I really liked the job SQE did with the ports of FFIII, FFIV and FFVI.) I genuinely wish SQE would consider letting them have a go at FFVII and re-release it with their magical touchscreen port skills! This is now the hands down best value for money I have spent on a SQE title on iOS!
Thank goodness they finally updated the game so the controls work even on the dead zone sides of the screen, because that was really annoying. Not much to complain about now...if anything at all!
Not to mention, yet again, this is another incredible delta update and doesn't require downloading 2 GB all over again.
Yes! Thanks for the update info. Sure wish Ubisoft's dev team would take notes on how this dev team handles updates. Even though I can't update AC, at least I can keep updating FFIX.
Hey guys! Found this awesome article that answers a lot of questions about the port with an interview from the director. It's a great read and also explains why they skipped FF8. http://venturebeat.com/2016/03/06/the-challenges-of-porting-final-fantasy-ix-to-android-and-ios/
Oh cool, so they did replace the backgrounds. But as the article says, our screen res is so high we can't really tell the difference.
I'm guessing because there's Silicon Studio (Bravely Default, 3D Dot Game Heroes), and their branch company Silicon Studio Thailand (this port). The easiest way to refer to the correct one of those two is by the unique identifier in their name, which is Thailand. Otherwise, you'd have to type out the full name every time, and if you did that, you'd have less time for vids.
Will this game play okay on an iPad Pro 9.7? I know it isn't specifically listed as being compatible. How does it play on the iPad in general?
I've played it on the 12.9" and it's GORGEOUS on a big screen. I have it installed on the 9.7" but haven't played/synced my save file yet. I would guess it'll be just as spectacular, maybe slightly less blurry because of the smaller screen. Not that it's super blurry on 12.9" but considering the original game resolution, it is what it is, doesn't stop my enjoyment of this one.
Thanks! Then it should work okay since they use the same cpu. How are the touch controls? I'm not a big fan of touch controls but I'm willing to try it for this game. I heard the Mfi controllers don't work yet properly.
I would like Mfi support too but would like to know how playable it is without it. Any comments from people who play the game?
I'm very much used to touch controls and don't mind them. That being said, this is a well done port with controls that work really well for me. If you can find videos on YouTube of people playing where it shows their hands controlling it, I'd recommend watching those to see if what I consider great is also great for you.
Thanks for the info. I bought the game and played for 2 hours. For touch controls, they seem fairly well implemented. I have a stupid question though. How do you quit from the game to the main menu? I can't seem to find the option. I guess I could kill the game to do it but there much be an option somewhere. Also about abilities, do you acquire them by just using weapons and equipment a lot?
