I agree. I actually really liked FF7 but that port is basically the "bare minimum" of what SQE could do. I wonder why they didn't give FF7 to that Thailand company who worked on this FF9 port. It's going to be hard going back to playing FF7 when FF9 shows that this is how a true port should be. FF7 is 95% similar to any emulator you can use on a JB phone. For their most famous installment, you'd think they'd put in more effort. I also hope for an update but I doubt that - my reasoning is going along the lines of them not doing it in the first place because they probably knew it would sell regardless of any upgrades. === On a side note did anyone rename Garnet back to Garnet instead of her nickname Dagger? I just got to that point in the iOS version and realized how silly Dagger sounds. And it never changes for the entire game (there's even multiple online threads complaining about her nickname). I'm debating if I should change her name back to Garnet but maybe I should keep the character's names as intended so the dialogue is read as intended. Dagger sounds like the name of a male assassin.. Dagger is probably the worst heroine character name I've heard in FF. Even worse than Lightning, who has a better nickname which is Light.
Worse than Garland? Although Garland is my favorite character in dissidia. And i think Ultimecia is the most badass character name in all of the FF titles. Gabranth comes a close second.
Ohh I do love Gabranth! He's probably my favorite "villain" in Final Fantasy. He's like their own Darth Vader with a bunch of awesome quotes in FF12 (I love their speech patterns in that game). Yes that Dagger name is worse than Garland. Who would name a girl Dagger unless she was born to kill people? :S
Cleaned out my email, temporarily unsynced my music, backed up and restored and I gained a ton of free space. Looks like I'll be playing after all. Just finished Adventures of Mana so I'll be starting soon.
bought it (stock it) before the 20% off sale end. i don't think i have time to start yet. there are quite a lot of walkthrus, what's the best walkthrough and strategy guide for this game? thanks
Playing through it on iOS, she's been Garnet since I got her. At least, i think she is. Guess I have to wait for the next dialogue to confirm it. I didn't even remember Dagger until you mentioned it. Was her name defaulted to Dagger for you?
I'm really digging this Fast-Forward feature for grinding! It's made leveling up go so much faster, coupled with Auto-Battle. However, I really wish I could select the action they use during Auto-Battle. Is that in there, and I'm just missing it? Or am I really stuck with Garnet and Vivi just using attack instead of abilities?
I would check gamefaqs website Also any walkthrough that mentions a lot of the side quests as well http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps/197338-final-fantasy-ix/faqs/71891?page=2 That's the one I'm using Same one I use when I play it on ps one
Probably have to get a bit further. She'll eventually want a different name so people won't recognize her and then they'll ask you to change her name (when she's first introduced you have no option to change her name). I decided to keep Dagger since that was the intended name but it's really weird calling her that to be quite honest..
Ah. It's been so long, I forgot when that happens. Shoot, I'm over 6 hours in and have been leveling so much that I'm only about to enter the Ice Cavern.
Well, now that I'm going through the Ice Cavern, I've noticed that anytime I'm battling the Wyerd enemies, the battle intro plays. But if I battle the Flan, it does not. I wonder if they had to implement it for each enemy encounter and accidentally left a few enemies without that skip battle intro option in the coding.
I'm at the part where I need to find Chocobo lagoon and the Chocobo prints near the beach west of The desert but I can't seem to find it or get there. Not sure where to go and for first time I'm pretty stuck so I've used to time to grind and level up so now I'm a lot stronger.
I forgot if this was only for FF8 or it also applies to FF9, but i remember maxing out skills required that you should not grind AT ALL. I think late in the game there are items that give permanent stat boosts on each level up, so to maximize the effect you need to be on the lowest level possible til you get to that point.
I meant "maxing out stats" not skills, sorry. BUT, im not too sure if this was only FF8 or it applies to FF9 too. Would be great if you can find out. Thanks!
I've got that version for our PS3 and I would rather play on iOS thanks to the Quicksave and the fast forward features. But just depends on what you'd rather play on. Touch controls are great for me, but some people probably still prefer real buttons.
The iOS version has some improvements. Most noticeable would be the character sprites. They are HD on the iOS version, although the backgrounds stay the same. Another significant enhancement is the fast forward. Always nice in a game that offers options for grinding. And the well-implemented quicksave. Switch areas, and the game soft-saves automatically for you. No more losing 30 mins of progress when traversing the ff9 world, and suddenly your iphone rang. In addition to those, they also added ingame cheats to cater those who arent inclined to getting into RPGs in-deep. Most iOS users are casual players, and the cheats allow them to enjoy the characters and the story/stories which made the FF world huge ever since. The touch controls in this port is FANTASTIC. You can say it is even close to Chaos Rings, which was designed for mobiles from the ground up.
