I wish I could say. I had a little over 8GB free anyway, so it didn't matter for me. But I can't imagine it actually needs that much to download a 2GB file and install it. I think someone a few pages back mentioned having less space free. If you find it, I'd suggest messaging that person.

I read through all the pages and someone said they only had 4 GBs free so I'll go with that. If I end up needing more, I'll just have to hold my breath and do it.

iOS version is not optimised for the iPad Pro.
Shame, guess I have to wait for the Steam version. #

The backgrounds look SD because Square Enix no longer has the original assets, so they can't re-render them at a higher resolution than they did at the time. Personally, I think the clean-up job Silicon Studio Thailand did on what are essentially 320x240 images is quite impressive. Short of a from-scratch remake a la FF7's, I think it's the best we're going to get. Their efforts in improving the framerate are equally impressive given the situation. The original code tied a lot of other things to the framerate, so any changes tend to start multiple fires in what ought to be unrelated parts of the game.

Like, I wish circumstances were better regarding the original assets of this game (and far too many others), but it is what it is. Looking at what a hash other efforts have been with far more useful assets (FF9 has no PC version so literally nothing pre-rendered with higher res than 320x240 exists), Silicon Studio pulled off a miracle here IMO.

Apple limit is 4 Gb now... so that shouldn't be a problem anymore..
Have a 1 time internal download and it could be 10 Gb for all I care :D

Downloading now on the Ipad Pro :)

148apps didn't rate it very highly either as a port. Don't know why though as sometimes I get the impression people are treating it like its supposed to be a remake rather than a port. If you're doing more than just slapping controls on a screen then I think it's a valiant effort.

I got Quina by far the strangest final fantasy character :)

I will say it again and this is just me talking but I love how the background looks when combined with the updated parts.
I hope part VIII should it happen gets this kind of treatment
Earning blue magic skills now for Quina
Have the frog drop and Aqua breath next up mustard bomb and angel snack two must haves and then the chocobo Forest!

My first time playing this. Got to say, it's quite good. Enjoying the gameplay and story. Controls are well done too. Only about 6 hrs in, but pulled me away from Crashlands for a bit.

I started playing and that 148 Apps review is total crap. The visuals look fantastic IMO. Yes, the backgrounds may not have been redone, but the character models are really great. And everything else seems cleaned up very well.

It looks one hell of a lot better than the PS1 version. WTF do they want? The controls are also very good even for the mini games. You can tell a lot of effort went into this.

I'm quite satisfied with this port and totally agree with Shaun's initial impressions that this is probably the best Final Fantasy port yet.

It's also the best version of the game IMO from what I've played so far.

Would love to hear first hand what the graphics look like on the Pro, before I lay down my $27AUD.

For anyone who's wondering, I downloaded this on my iPhone 5 and, even though it's not one of the recommended devices, I've had no problems. I'm only a couple hours in so I guess that could change but so far so good.

I wrote in a earlier post regarding this. The backgrounds look really good but not amazing. This is not optimized for prob but it is not an issue. Character models and FMV look amazing when compared to the ps1 version. Also the backgrounds compared to ps1 look good. I hope square can even make this better for optimizing patch on pro

You are over exaggerating here! Considering this is a PS1 game the backgrounds look good on the pro not amazing like the characters and FMV but I wouldn't call the background crap!

Wow that's bad. I don't quite understand too but manage a 5/1/1.. Gave up when I read it's not critical to the game
