Hi, it is a sale time so I have a little struggle with which one to choose. Mainly it is between ff9 and dq8. I’m worried about dq 8 frame rate drops. It seems ruining experience. Did they fixed it since launch? On the other hand ff9 seems kind of quirky, cheesy in terms of character navigation and sound fx. I’m looking for kind of fable like, hooking up experience ( yeah, i know it doesn’t say much) Played chrono cross back in the days (really enjoyed it) a little bit of ff7 (I would go with this one but ios/android port seems poorly done in terms of control) and recently twewy but it is in a leauge of its own, and I’m not expecting such quality here. Maybe classics like ff6 or dq5 would be better? PS or maybe even chaos rings 3? Any input will be appreciated.
I haven't played any Dragon Quest games, but I have to say that FF9 is an absolute gem of a game. (I enjoy FF7, FF9 and FFX) Its got a good story, the take turns style battles... I aren't sure what it is on sale for, but I would certainly recommend it!
FF9 will see a 150% return on Your investment DQ8 will as well though FF9 is a better purchase. Honestly of the games you listed in the title FF9 > ff6 = dq8 > dq5
=P $0.02 Even though FF9 was my first experience with a 'real' RPG game, FF6 stands out as my absolute favorite of all the FF titles (9 is second... Then 4... Then 10...). Mainly because of the story line, large cast of playable characters and the steampunk aspect (big steampunk fan... =P ). If you're more into the growth of abilities, managing equipment and depth of battle mechanics, I think 9 might have a slight edge above 6 in those regards. But you really can't go wrong with any of the games you've listed. They're all highly enjoyable affairs that (I think) play great on the iDevice - especially if you have an MFi controller (though this isn't required to enjoy, it just makes some aspects of gameplay a little more comfortable and you won't have to spend any time getting acquainted with the subtleties of an onscreen joystick).
Well I'll just pipe up as the sole ardent fan of Dragon Quest V in the thread so far. All three of the other games are wonders, but, in the way it shows the arc of a particularly magical life, to the point where you even start to see yourself in your character's children, DQV occupies my thoughts the most out of any of these games. Plus you may find yourself drawn back to it sooner than the others to see how things would have panned out with another wife.
I love Final Fantasy, but I'll throw in a vote for DQ8. It's simultaneously the most impressive and maybe the most traditional of all those options. FFIX has great characters, lovely art and charmingly dated FMV sequences; FFVI and perhaps above all DQ5 might have the best stories, according to many; but DQ8 offers a huge, beautiful, 3D world to explore with engaging characters and a fun job system. Also, and this is a clincher, if you're playing on the phone rather than tablet, the DQ games are in portrait mode - and they work brilliantly in that format. Final note: I played DQ8 on a 4S back in the day, and never had any issues. I think it crashed no more than twice in what was an embarrassingly high number of hours to the very end of the post-game. Modern tech should handle it without any issues.
