Iap for chapters is fine. I'm talkin about shoehorning "gems" or an iap currency into the game. Praying they don't.

    Oh. Hi.
I highly doubt they'll add IAP (excluding Chapters, of course.)
There other big name games didn't really have any, they just charged a lot right away.
I'm fine with this, as they pretty much give you an exact "THIS is what the game costs. Period" rather then most F2P's that try to siphon $5 every few days.

This is going to be expensive, and depending on it's success, possibly set a new pricing concept for the appstore.

I don't mind the prices going up. We're already paying very little as it is, and even with this, we're still half the price of a new console game.
This just kind of helps encourage more "AAA" games, hopefully.

I'm sure this game will be amazing also, it's made by the same team who did FF4 TAY, and in the same method. (Feature phone to outside release, TAY went to Wii and PSP after japan feature phones.)
    And TAY was great.

    From Gamezebo:
"Players will be able to purchase the game episodically. The prologue will be available absolutely free, allowing interested gamers to get a taste of the experience without having to spend a single penny. The first chapter will be $2.99, and the remaining chapters (2-4) will be $9.99 apiece. Or, if you want the whole bundle, you can make a one-time purchase of $28.99."

Except that they should have taken an actual AAA game then. The 30$ price would have been fine for a port of Tactics Ogre or of latest PSP version of Final Fantasy IV. Not for this though, IMHO.

Im sure they'll get to that... Someday. But for now, as long as they can still squeeze out some money out of the less stellar, that's what we'll be getting.

I'm sure it will be worth the price. The full game is about 35-40 hours long, it has updated graphics/music and the other good SE support we have seen from recent iOS releases. It definitely has a long story and the gameplay looks awesome, the job system easily is one of the best and most complete.

I'm supporting it just because I want to see more full quality game releases on iOS from them. If they somehow do end up lowering the price I won't regret my purchase.

Apples to apples I just don't see why 10 bucks would be so bad compared to a port like chrono trigger. CT is one of the best RPGs ever for any platform and it was a port. I see zero difference and 30 while no necessarily a ripoff, is excessive and cuts out prob 75% of potential buyers on the fence or who stumble on this while browsing new apps.

I am all for aaa titles an think freemium games are crap and a buck should only go so far. I want 5-7$ games that offer console-ish quality and depth. I see that as a good price point for ios games. 1, 5 or 10. Simple. 30 is just too much for a retro style game without even cutting edge graphics.

Not really. If it's fully voiced, that takes time. However, translating text is very easy to do. You can clear out a whole script in about three days with a team of professionals.

The reason it takes so long for fan translations is because they're doing it as part of their own time, and not as a job. When you're paid to translate, you do it all day.

Localizing a 40 hour + game doesn't take just 3 days, especially from Japanese. A professional translation of that scope can easily take months.

I'd say $5-7 is pretty cheap for console quality :p

After all these years, finally a new 2d FF comes(a port from and older Japan
Phone game) and people aren't excited? I kind of wish they would just port over ff4 the complet story but, this is pretty good. its been like 20 years since a 2d FF (besides the after years Etc..) 30$ sounds pretty reasonable.. It's like a new final fantasy 4,5 or 6.(except probly more like 5 from the looks) back in the ps2 era I woulda payed like 100$ for another 2d FF. I guess the majority of the population just see this as another game. But for people that grew up playing FF ok snes this is oozing with nostalgia. Don't get why $ is different on iOS compared to everthing else? They,ll pass on a game being to expinsive.. then spend 100$ that night eating dinner etc..

Hopefully this is good and successful so they make more 2d FF or just release whatevr else that we don't even know about.

Personally I would pay a lot of money for a new 2D final fantasy...so I will be buying this one no matter the price (although I would rather if it would come out for psp or vita so I could get physical controls...)

Does anyone have any idea about the release plans in regards to iPhone/iPad/universal? Some of the gameplay vids show the game being played on an iPad. Maybe Square is trying this new price point on a universal title?

    Oh. Hi.
    God I hope so.
4, 5, and 6 were among the greatest RPGs ever made, at least in my opinion.
I lost my enjoyment of the series around 9.
It just seems like Square lost its touch around the time of the Square-Enix merger.

I was convinced that they just didn't have it in them for a good new 2D/Retro RPG, but then I played the PSP's FF4 Complete Story.
TAY could not have been better, and it greatly increases my hype for this game seeing as it was made by the same team and in the same manner as TAY.
(Originally made for Japan feature phones, and released episodically.)

Square does seem to have taken a decent interest in the iOS scene, mostly experimental at first. But I like to think they've gotten the idea of what we really want.
Chaos Rings seemed experimental, but they did a good enough job on that to encourage further development for the platform.
2D RPGs have a nice fit on the device.

Ya, I don't get why they aren't porting over ff4 the complete story? I never owned a psp and it's a game that alot of people have intrest in and an opportunity for people without psp's to finally play it.

It's not just ff4 and the after years but also a whole new section that bridges the 2.. I haven't played it but personally that sounds incredible, I love ff4 and with all the new content I'd be paying out the wazoo.. I think people would be more inclined to buy that for a 20-30$ price tag over FF:d because they atleast know ff4 is a great game. Those people will hype the game up and then get. Ton of new players that haven't even played ff4 ready to buy it as well. I dunno it seemed like an obvious sell to me, I hope they still do realese it.

The Interlude thats in between FF4 and FF4TAY was a letdown in my opinion. You could skip it completely and still not miss anything. You can finish it in about 2 hours. The rest of the game was great though

You should look into picking up a cheap psp just for that game (if you really liked FF4). But like jtall said the interlude is a let down (but the rest of the games are awesome!)
