New gameplay footage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAWdl3v0Jvg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So4KbCT_lCU This is going to get so awesome. Cant wait for german commentary
I think old controls with virtual joystick are better and easy to control the ball and player than this ones at FIFA 14
The guys playing the game seemed to have little control of the player with the ball at any given time: I saw them controling where they wanted other players to go, and the type of kick they were about to do, but the movement and overall flow of the game itself seemed to depend very little on the actions of the person actually playing the game. Hopefully this will wind up getting fixed by changing either the control or difficulty settings.
So, for everyone who does not know this: There will be still traditional controls as an option. I think in one of the three videos this is also shown. So no need to desperate
Danke for the links. My fav iOS game is Fifa10. So with that said, I watched the first vid and specifically with the new touch/draw controls I had a few questions: 1) How the hell am I supposed to do that on my tiny iTouch device? 2) The commentator says the design is to convert controls to "touch" ""as you would in any interaction with your iDevice"". I don't follow that argument: The key is to USE THE CONTROL SYSTEM THAT PROVIDES THE BEST RESULTS: Discuss that and the various pluses and minus of each system. 3) So are the touch controls to increase casual players interest? Who do they think will use touch controls: iPad players, casual players and advanced players or do they think the virtual buttons will be used by advanced players? 4) Will the rumored iOS Controllers be supported? 5) Why or have the EQ dev team consulted with the players of FIFA13 on what they want to see and interacted with them? I like some of the menu features in FIFA14 - it seems to be improving options for players. But the CONTROLS really need nailing 1st. They should be UPFRONT about their IAP strategy also. I know they want to milk this product ie a player pays X upfront, instead they want Y+n+n+n > X >= Y... payments from players. It'll be interesting to see if they screw over the game design to make more profits from this franchise.
FIFA 14 iOS & Android - EA is looking into adding support for gamepads post launch. "But while controller support will be available on all mobile versions, online multiplayer will be limited to iOS because of the "complexity" of the Android platform." "File size limited to 1GB" Simultaneous launch confirmed by Digital Spy, PocketGamer has nice Hands-on with Fifa 14 Sorry I cant post links Im on TA app, but few days ago I was reading about Fifa 14 mobile thats why I posted this
"FIFA 14 will release day and date with the console version" - 148Apps, Fifa 14 is set to release on September 24th (NA) - 27th (EU) for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC,and on Xbox One and PS4 later.
How does FIFA on iOS compare to the console version? I've been an avid FIFA player (for almost 10 years now) on Xbox but I can't imagine the touch version being that much fun to play.
Well if you're coming down from console you may hate it, I can only guess. For me, I'm the complete reverse: I love the handheld version more than the console. The limitations of the game and getting to master the touch controls and learn to read the game is a challenge that can be done, and you can play a really good game on it. But it takes time and is not perfect obviously: That just means to me I know to play % passes, onces where I know my controls success rate - so it becomes part of the game in a way. I'm suspicious of the new touch controls: Sounds like they want to dumb the game down for the mobile casual audiences and go F2P aka dragon & football tm.
I guess that makes sense. I've been playing FIFA now since FIFA 99 and there is definitely a huge learning curve in sports games. If you think about it, you have to focus on moving a player and keeping the ball, then you have manage to pass it to another player (who's also moving but you're not controlling him). I love FIFA for consoles, but I've yet to play for iOS. How were the controls before?
The controls were and are great still. I eventually traded in my Xbox 360 version of FIFA 13 because I got just as much fulfillment out of playing it on my ipod touch, honestly speaking. That's how good of a job EA Mobile has done with it. It looks like this years game is going to be even better.
Fifa10 had the original Nintendo DS port more or less. Those controls imo had some great attributes in that you could use the gauge power more precisely for the physics of the ball to move around the screen. What they did next was upgrade to the PS portable version, where the AI has more influence. There's some advantages to this as it expands the sense of team work and simulation feels more real, but I feel the range of passes is narrowed down. The big advantage is the dribbliing and in '13 the skill moves to beat 1-1 which is great expansion. Imo the shooting is still very poor. But for '14 they're using a swipe to shoot which I anticipate could work great - but I'm not atm convinced they'll get the swipe to move right: 1. Sticking your hand over a tiny screen 2. economy of movement ie more for a swipe than a button press using d-pad + buttons. 3. As we agree, it takes skill and dedication to improve skills - I think EA want casual players so they can dumb the controls down. I mean WE KNOW EA voted golden poo x2 for a reason. 4. EA always does it's own thing: Sure they've been brilliant to date with Fifa mobile, but where do they get the best Fifa players to test the game and report feedback? I don't see that which indicates it's the profits from casuals and in-app purchases (again if you look a reports they did booming business with Apple last year in their digital strategy). So I'm skeptical about EA - ie dont' tell me "It's better" - tell me HOW and WHY it's better. Otherwise it's PR spin. = Digression over, but back to your question given the above: iOS is impressive for a mobile game not so much the full-blown version if you're in to that. As you say, first start with good passes, then adding movement of players off the ball, and knowing positions when players are off screen you get used to so you can launch a blind ball or move towards them and pull it off. Then you start getting more micro eg trick moves to sucker the defence out of position etc. There's still teething issues sometimes, but it's overall quality stuff by EA to date. Worth a few bucks for sure. Alternatively: Real Soccer - Gameloft Real Star Soccer - manager a career sim Score! or something like that Football Manager Handheld - Sega (manager sim) And the other good soccer/football engine = Dream League Soccer - First Touch Games (or First Touch Football series).
Fifa has no alternatives on mobile platforms, its celarly the best(but from 2011 it almost doesn't change :/)
