which part? I remember Suikoden started as a 2D series and ended up 3D (especially the later ones didn´t receive very positive reviews)
I think I´ll wipe the dust from my PSX and give 1&2 a try. Never played these. My colleague tells me he loved the early parts of the series but didn´t like the later ones. (just like the reviewers on various sites).
I think I have to agree with your colleague. Suikoden has a very special place in my heart, especially the first two, and especially the characters Flik, Viktor, and Odessa. There's just a certain special something that the first two Suikoden games brought to the table, mixing the whole "castle building" aspect (allowing you to feel like your army is truly progressing) as well as a fantastic JRPG story and lovable characters (not all of them, of course). As a whole, aside from the Final Fantasy franchise (6 in particular) the Suikoden games rank high on my list of treasured gameplay experiences. While they're not without their flaws, the positive aspects of the game far outweigh the negatives.
oh yeah, suikoden 1, what a game! although i don´t remember that much of this game, i recall i loved the battle system and the possibility to build a huge castle by gathering all 108 additional characters. that was an incredible feature! does anyone know on which legend suikoden is based and where from the idea with the 108 characters comes from (i know it´s from a legend, but i can´t remember which one)? last one i tried was suikoden 2, but all others had pretty cheap 3d graphics. i bought part 4 i guess and was very deceived of everything. it just didn´t feel like the original anymore... too sad...
Damn alpha versions! I was totally sucked into an Across Age dungeon and the game suddenly crashed. Allright, where is my crashlog. Hope my savegame isn´t too far away. But other than that: This game is going to be sooo good! And yeah @ Toast: Make it easier, I died from 2 hits in the back even though my level was quite good for that area.
oh no,looks like a started commotion about Suikoden here, hahahaah,we all love Suikoden, and i hope a game like it will be made for iphone,Suikoden is in 2d but it is presented well, maybe someone adapt its art style anyweiz, off topic.... i'm still away from this upcoming RPG,maybe more info and i'll get more interested
We have just started to unveal the game and we´ll definitely keep the infos coming. There´s still plenty of time until the game is going to be released.
Is there going to be excessive grinding? What are the puzzles like, Zelda A Link To The Past, or God of War 2 (room puzzles where you manipulate time)?
No, this game will stay fresh from the first to the last minute and you won´t need to spend hours at one place just to reach a certain level. You CAN, though - if you want Across Age is more like YS (if you know this?). The Ys series is known for its quick and action-oriented gameplay without getting old as you progress to new locations pretty fast. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ys_(series) BTW We also spend a lot of time on creating an intense soundtrack which is also a habit of the Ys series Most puzzles are based on cooperating or/and time travelling with your 2nd character. E.g help your partner to climb up a ledge to press a button or move both characters at the same time (in seperate rooms); Or time travel to the same room in the past to reach sth special. But there are also very classic "move the stone here" or "put a weight there" puzzles. And - just like in Zelda, there are magic spells or items that help you across water, burn down things, etc. So you progressively reach new areas with your abilities.
You need to try 5...if you can get past the intial few hours, you love it after. The war battles are awesome and so are the characters. (Hey if you guys really love suikoden (clone)then you should think about it after this one)
Maybe Would being able to switch between an action-based battle system and a turn-based battle system be possible? If it can be done without unbalancing the battle system, it be super awesome. The only problem is an action battle system you can dodge, turn based not necessarily...
no that wouldn't go right and then they would have to design another battle system and balance it. I think its interesting but wouldn't work out in my opinion. Making another game, lets say suikoden(where you can recruit allies), would be much easier and much more profitabe.
Understood. You´re that type of gamer who levels up first to kick asses and take names when it´s coming to boss fights
Yup its natural to me to overpower myself but then too often I become way too powerful for even the final boss (glad that some games have secret bosses that are even stronger) so any update on this game
