Favoritism on the forums?!

Discussion in 'Off-Topic Lounge' started by MidianGTX, Dec 11, 2009.

?

Do the mods favor certain members over others in regards to giving moderations?

  1. Yes, this forum has a strict heirachy and the few at the top are exempt from the law.

Earlier somebody claimed that the mods/admins around here were more lax on the rules for members they "liked" more than others, also naming me as one of the "favoured elite" that the rules don't apply to. Does anyone agree with this?

I honestly can't say I've noticed. On the odd occasion it does seem like a mod will keep a deteriorating topic open just for a bit of entertainment value, but they know when it's gone too far and it's never influenced by which members are participating.

Personally I think the reason I'm not moderated every minute of the day is because I try to stay reasonable even when in disagreement with someone else. Most of the posts of mine that have been deleted were due to me keeping an argument alive rather than directly insulting someone. There are no rules about conflicting opinions so that's most of the regular members safe... and if I really feel the urge to insult someone I'll do it so subtly it goes unnoticed :)

Of course, the mods are human so if they disagree with another member they're just as entitled to a bit of an argument as anyone else, but having their own opinions and taking a side doesn't necessarily mean they prefer one member over another. If I knowingly break the rules and start throwing swear words at people I'd fully expect to be moderated for it.

    Discussion time!

You do realize the one who made this accusation was spungoMcgee only?

He`s a certified troll and every word he has said in these forums is nothing but crap.

I think the Mod's here are pretty sharp and they do a good job of seeing through people's BS. If you are a regular poster, generally a positive contributor, have good intentions, and occasionally have a lapse of judgment- I think it's perfectly acceptable to take things into context and perhaps go a bit lighter on them. If someone new comes in and immediately starts controversy and arguments, what have they done to earn the right to stick around, or earn another chance?

With that said I don't think there is any blatant "favoritism" that I notice. There is a difference between a jr member and sr member, but if there really was favoritism, wouldn't we probably notice it within the hierarchies?

Its not necessarily favoritism..the admin/mods are people so if they like someone then of course there's going to be a leniency factor. If a new member says something then obviously there'll be larger repercussions than if a more senior member said it. [depending on what was said, but you get my point]

I'd like to think everybody on these forums appreciates me for my ridiculously good looks and hilariously sharp humor. Therefore, I assume I get a free pass to do whatever I please.

Edit: Can we please stop putting stupid choices in polls? I'm sick of these polls that have completely irrelevant choices and people pick them.

I couldn't remember if polls automatically gave people the option to just view the results without voting, so I stuck in an option for people who simply didn't care. I'd rather they clicked that than chose an option they didn't agree with.

I actually didn't even read the poll until it was mentioned then I laughed out loud.

That is probably good advice in general- pacing yourself.

The mods and admins within this forum have a difficult job of policing, and overall, the quality of the TA forums is astounding. The posts are mostly on topic, and we don't see a lot of spamming nor bots (bots are the worst). I don't think that the mods/admins could do a better job, regardless of whether they are playing favorites or not.
