It's actually a tie for me between FFVI and Chrono Trigger, now that i think about it. I love the epic-ness and steampunk atmosphere of FFVI, great characters, great locations, and one of the, if not most, sadistic and twisted FF antagonists (Kefka).

But it kind of takes a bit in the game to get into the story, whereas Chrono Trigger just kind of throws you in it within the first hour. Not to mention how great the graphics are and the gameplay, especially considering the time period. CT did it right in the mid 90s, and some games NOW still can't quite get things all together.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with the Wii, with its really pathetic game library and low graphics capabilities. Can anyone suggest to me some really high quality RPGs? Turn-based, action, or adventure are ok, but no RPGs like Oblivion please, can't stand those, and god no Mario stuff or anything similar. Any language is fine, doesn't have to be English, in fact I would prefer Japanese RPGs to be in Japanese, since translation into English in 99.99% of the cases are beyond horrible. I have the following already:
    - Tales of Symphonia
    - Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk
    - Okami
    - Zelda Twilight Princess
    - 黄金の絆 | Ogon no Kizuna | "Journey to Gold"
    - Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse | Fatal Frame IV
    - Final Fantasy Chocobo Dungeons
    - Obscure: The Aftermath
    - Baroque
    - Oboromuramasa

Planning to get some of these:
    - 428: 封鎖された渋谷で | "428: In a Blockaded Shibuya"
    - Monster Hunter Tri
    - Arc Rise Fantasia
    - Cursed Mountain
    - Dragon Quest Swords
    - Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
    - Nodame Cantabile: Dream Orchestra
    - No More Heroes
    - Sin & Punishment 2

Of course I can't get all of those in the second list; suggestions on which ones to get, as well as good ones I missed would be appreciated. Thanks.

(Ugh I'd pay $100+ for Eternal Sonata... if it ever comes out for Wii -.-)

Well, Chrono Trigger is my all time favorite, but I don't think Phantasy Star IV gets enough love. It's right up there with Chrono Trigger for me.

I really liked the Baten Kaitos series for the Gamecube. I'd really recommend that RPG since there's not a huge selection for the Wii or GC of quality RPGs. Though if I had a Wii I'd re-buy Baten Kaitos and Tales of Symphonia in a heartbeat. Can't think of any Wii RPG's other than the ones you mentioned.

Well there is Opoona and Rune Factory: Frontier, but I have no clue if they're good or not.

    FFVII and always FFVII !

Oh how much I wished there is a port over to iPhone or something similar..

I'm really looking forward to an RPG game on iPhone being able to summon creatures out like on FFVII ! :D

One of my alltime fav's also, for sure. Do you like Secret of Mana? I like that one just a tad bit more than CT.

@ Aurora- only RPG's on Wii I've played are Zelda and Monster Hunter. Like them both, Zelda more, but you're already aware of both so not much help here, sorry.

The original Kingdom Hearts. I've loved RPGs since then, and it's become my favorite genre aside from RTS. Have pretty much every single one on the iOS that's even half decent.

Star tropics created by the team that made the Zelda games is the greatest rpg for the NES, this game is the cream of the crop, though highly over looked becuase it was realeased rather late in the neses life cycle. I was to young to enjoy this game when it first came out but I just bought a Nes and picked up this interesting game. It's a great game and you should play it sometime.

I don't know how many of you've played Oblivion but there's an RPG I really love... beautiful environments, interesting characters and storylines. Even when the game fails it fails in its own weird way which is hilarious really.

I think me and my friends really got interested in Oblivion all over again after seeing the Skyrim trailer tbh

    Doing nothing of importance.
    Somewhere
Hmm... It's a pretty big toss up between Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy X... I'm gonna have to say that FFX pushes ahead just a bit, but Chrono Trigger is pulling a close second. The only reason none of the Persona games (especially 4) aren't up here is because they're frustratingly difficult at times. Other favorites:

    Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
    Earthbound
    Persona 4
    Persona 3 Portable
    Paper Mario Series

Wow...old thread gets resurrected here! I'm not saying this is the best RPG of all time, but this is the game that made me realize how cool this genre could be. I was 17, and obsessed:

Phantasy Star Online for Sega Dreamcast. I think I spent a good majority of my teen life on that game.
