Kingdom Hearts is a good game to start with because you can easily relate to the characters. You can pick up copies relatively cheap too.
Crisis Core. Holy crap that game is just insane... I still have yet to beat FF7 and 10, but I'm going to work on it soon. Also, the first 2 Paper Mario games were great.
I'm fairly certain there's no Elder Scrolls games on the PS2. If you're going to play on a different system, I'd say it depends upon what you want. More action and better combat would be Oblivion. More exploration and a sense of discovery and strange locations would be Morrowind. Both have some of the other's strengths, but that's the general rule of thumb for the two.
Either Dragon Age: Origins or The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Can't really decide, they're so different.
Here are some of my favorite RPG's of all time. Kind of a Squaresoft (that's right I said soft) fanboy I must admit Final Fantasy Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy IX Final Fantasy Tactics Secret of Mana Chrono Trigger Legend of Zelda Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past Xenogears And the best part? I take them all with me everywhere I go (Feel free to flame away but I own the original copy of every game listed. The one's for Playstation I rip myself using Alcohol 52%. Don't know how to do the same for cartridge games, so... well ya know)
You're just jealous my nerdishness trumps yours That's a bummer I'll get over it while I'm playing the game on the go
To be honest, out of all the games I listed FF8 & 9 are barely playable. There are performance issues so that when you're on the world map, it's hard to see. The rest work well, but these 2 push the limits unfortunately The developer of the emulators recently posted a couple tricks he learned of, which I believe he is planning to implement on a couple select emulators to improve performance. I'm hoping once that update is available 8&9 will be playable. For now, I don't even have either of them on my device anymore. Unfortunately he just released an update to make playstation emulator compatible with 3.1.x, so the next update (performance update) is probably not due anytime soon. Plus you need a 3gs or ipod touch 3rd gen to play the playstation one's anyways. Until I got the 3gs, it wasn't even worth trying.
Awesome to see so many people who love the GS (Golden Sun) series. Yea final fantasy is great, and chrono trigger as well. But yeah anyone who hasnt played goden sun and golden sun the lost age needs to play them. AMAZING games, quite cheap (6-9 dollars used at gamestop) and the third is coming out in january!! CANT WAIT though it's changing the old formula. oh well, hope for the best.
This is just the one I played thoroughly: Legend of Dragoon that was probably my favorite ever, and when one of the party characters died it was huge for me... Video Card errors stopped me from liking FF7 originally, it seems ok, but its just so old: I highly reccomend Planescape: Torment, my old roommate was obsessed with that game, and it has a really cool story, more interesting than some of the stories that are out today (Dragon Age comes to mind, really cool, but the story im on is like lord of the rings)
ff7 is for me the best rpg ever made , though i havent played it in 4 years so i dont know if played it again now what will my openion be
i can't believe none of you havn't said this yet but frigging monster hunter freedom 2 for the psp, i mean nothing else compares to it, it is the best rpg i have ever played
