What are favourite books? Mine: Artemis Fowl [Series] Eoin Colfer Tomorrow, when the war began [Series] John Marsden Harry Potter [Series] J.K Rowling
Anything by Stephen King (although Book3 of the Dark Tower Series is my favourite). Anything by Hunter S. Thompson - I have a huge soft spot for Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas as far as fact based fiction goes. Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs - crude, obscene, stylish, cutting, dark. Definitely a must read book if you are into the strange & unusual (and have strong stomach for vulgarity). Anything by James Rollins - this man is a genius at writing thriller adventure novels. Still Life With Woodpecker (A Sort Of Love Story) by Tom Robbins - I love this book.
Must not be very old if you think Artemis Fowl is that great? I mean, I love the humor, characters, and overall creativity, but I read the entire series (admittedly, only 4 books at the time) when I was in 5th grade no problem.
(Romance of) The Three Kingdoms The Ranger's Apprentice Not done with either. I can't finish The Ranger's Apprentice because i don't have all the books.
Also for fantasy - David Eddings (although the last series of books that he wrote was weak sauce, everything else was excellent). Especially have a soft spot for the Belgariad and Malloreon series.
•*Maximum Ride [1-3] - After 3 the series goes down, because of Global Warming. •*Let The Last One In - First time reading & I'm enjoying it so far. •*The Invention of Hugo Cabret - More of a "Picture book" then a Book. But it's for Young Adults - Adults. •*Time Traveler's Wife - The Movie was horrid, but that's no excuse not to read the book. •*Percy Jackson (Series) - As with TTW, The movie was horrid, but give the book a chance. Especially if your into Fantasy.
The Wheel of Time series - Robert Jordan The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit - Tolkien The Stand - Stephen King Lots more but I forget...
Definitely this. Also: Terry Goodkind - The Sword of Truth series Douglas Adams (R.I.P.) - Everything (I wish he could have finished the Dirk Gentley novels -- at least the third one anyway. He was taken way before his time.) L.E. Modesitt Jr. - The Saga of Recluse (though the way he sometimes changes tenses and perspectives bugs me.) David Eddings - The Belgariad/The Mallorean, The Elenium/The Tamuli series Robert Asprin - The M.Y.T.H. series and the Phule's Company series Piers Anthony - The Adept, Incarnations of Immortality, Battle Circle and Mode series, plus But What of Earth? (the annotated edition). I used to be heavily into the Xanth series when I first started reading, but grew out of them.
Some of my favorites are: The Silmarillion by Tolkien; but I need to read it again. I read it in 7th grade, so I know I missed a bunch from it. Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card; it's the last book in the Ender series. Queen of Angels by Greg Bear. I like the psychological parts and the parts with Jill. The essay Self-Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson. Thanks for reminding me, Mindfield: I like Douglas Adams's books too! So far I've only read the first Dirk Gently book, and I liked the Electric Monk. He(it?) was pretty similar to a lot of people.
any fans of William S. Burroughs, Hunter S. Thompson, Jack Kerouac, Tom Robbins, Charles Bukowski, etc. here?
Well Rangers Apprentice The Artemis Fowl The Septimus Heap The Skulduggery Pleasant The Harry Potter Blood Ninja Once, Then and Now (All 3 by Morris Gleitzman) The Twilight Saga Them book series I enjoyed
I remember Artemis Fowl... I read the original and the one about the cube or something a long time ago. Great books from what I remember. As for me, my favorite book is The Zombie Survival guide. Something about it kept me from putting the book down whenever I could. I think second place might go to The Outsiders, which I read in 8th grade and loved. Right now I'm reading Brighton Rock by Graham Green, and it's actually turning out to be pretty good so far. A bit confusing for me since I'm not used to the way they speak, but I'm understanding what's going on pretty well.
Definitely. havent seen the movie but it just looked bad. I gave the book a chance for a book report and really liked it. Im lookin for the third book but cant find it anywhere.
A lot of my friends have read zombie survival guide so i wanna pick it up somewhere. And a lot of my friends didnt like the outsiderws surprisingly but i loved it. Any book where I actually care about the characters is good in my book.
My 8th grade teacher had an Outsiders Day where we all had to come in dressed as Greasers, Socs, or 60s icons. She was an awesome teacher. That's what I like about Orson Scott Card's Ender books. After writing the original series, he more recently wrote Ender in Exile to fill in the gap between Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, and I felt like I really knew Ender in that book.
