  1. No, not at all. :)

Just some of the active members discussing stuff in the GOTW thread, that is all. Hehe. My last post for your viewing pleasure.

Don't worry, it has nothing to do about your game, and there is support on my side too of the whole issue. So no worries. :)

We BOTH win, my friend, which has been the goal all along with this fantastic journey we've been having here. I will win because I have been an influencing factor in convincing Alex that a stamina bar for jumping is in his best interest and that difficulty options will appeal to a wider audience. Alex wins because his game will sell better in the long run, especially when the update comes out and the sites revise their reviews to be more favorable. I actually wish TA would wait until the update hits to review it, because now that the stamina bar will be implemented, this game is going to have a fantastic feel to it. I am also saving my review for after this update as well.

Since my 'skill level' is so low, I am going to come and ask the wisdom of the forum for my latest dilemma. I went back to the campaign for the heck of it, beat the board and ended up at the appliance boss. Here's the problem: I have no health at all. I mean none. I can't jump, at all, obviously. There are no health drops available. This appliance monster starts spinning his hands. There is no way to escape the spinning hands because this monster catches up to me every time, kills me with one hit because I cannot jump or withstand any more than one hit.

I am REALLY curious as to the suggestions anyone is going to give me here, because, from what I can tell, with my minimal skill set, is that I have to re-do the previous board and pass it with enough health so that I can withstand the inescapable hit from the appliance monster that is inevitable, or have enough health to be able to jump away from it.

EDIT: Ok, so, it is possible to barely get away from the first round of spinning hands. Now to avoid being squashed from the flying attacks with no energy. Alex, you have successfully made the tightest scenarios for escaping death that I have ever played in a video game.

DOUBLE EDIT: Ok, beat the appliance monster. The following level, the subway, seems a little stranger than the other subway levels. I get to the end with about 30 or so enemies left to kill, but they stop coming. The time keeps going and I eventually die, but no more enemies. Hmmmm. I guess I'll just keep on trial-ing and error-ing it.

TRIPLE EDIT: Ok, beat the subway. Alex, is there any way you can make Frank actually enter the subway train and have the doors close behind him? I think that would look cool, instead of just having him vanish. I think it would show a more realistic progression of his journey.

QUADRUPLE EDIT: Wow, ok... I really like the cemetery setting. This is easily my favorite board in terms of graphics and mood. You know, I think that is what is missing from some of the other levels, this 'gloomy' atmosphere. Maybe the other levels feel too bright and could be darker? The cemetery feels like a vampire hideout, feels more serious. The fog is definitely a nice touch. I also like how there are all the same type of vampires. It adds uniformity to the theme. I would prefer if the giant zombie guys were not on this board. Instead, it would be cool if the vampires came in at that time in greater numbers. Of course, within reason.

    I agree. Seriously.

See this post shows me a perfect example of you naturally overcoming obstacles and ill bet you got a great sense of accomplishment from them. I know Iv been snarky in this thread, and you have stuck to your guns...but c'mon, admit just a bit that while the new changes will make the game better overall, that after getting past a few of the levels, you appreciate the games natural design and challenge (even the frustrating parts) just a bit more than before.

I have appreciated it the whole time, honestly. I said it much earlier in the thread, that they key word for me was tweaks. The game would benefit from tweaking the things we've talked about.

I enjoy this game more than I would lead you to believe. Look back at the good things I've said about it. However, if I didn't keep on the issues that needed to be addressed, they may have been glossed over. And it's because I like the game that I have been so persistent. I'm sure Alex's wife is telling him to stay away from the thread, simply because I am driving him nuts.

I've done my job ;) This game will be so good after this update. I know it.

Trying to make it through level 7 with any health/ammo was a real challenge.. I agree with your opinions on the cemetery stage (it looks great!).

Here are a couple general tips that helped me with level 9:

Use tweets only when you have to. (The nuclear option)

Jumping and taking light damage is faster than fighting it out for less damage. Time becomes more important than health towards the end. It's still not a good idea to jump into heavy damage situation . .. You also may need to jump/double jump to avoid taking heavy damage while eating beans.

Sometimes you can tweet, eat beans, and switch back to the mini-gun without taking damage.

Stage 9 was definitely a challenge, but it was a lot of fun! :) I'm not going to spoil it for anybody, but Stage 10 is a lot of fun too

Hmmm. Just thinking out loud here... I am wondering if there are too many of the rappers in this game, in general. They are on all the subway stages (which makes sense, but I'd like to see a mix of rappers and homeless), the Downtown stage (which makes sense), the Junkyard (I'd like to see something other than rappers here, but I'm not sure what. Maybe vampire dogs?) and on Vamp St. (I'd prefer to see a more white collar vampire here to fit the whole Wall Street theme, even though there are already lawyers present). It's just A LOT of rapper.

I also think I prefer the darker tone, like I said above. I think having the rappers around so much makes it a little cheesy, and maybe a little too pop culture.

The first level, Suburbia. You make lots of money and there are no lawyers.

I used the third stage for grinding. You get 2,000+ every time you play it in career mode.

Best grind stage is the nightclub stage. Few screens, lots of drops. 2k+ a run.

Alex, I am going back through and replaying campaign mode, just to experience the story again. I noticed I lost track of the story somewhat simply because of the number of times I'd spend on each board. I want to read it a quicker rate.

Anywho, I noticed that Frank's family isn't mentioned until the second stage of the Downtown level, at least from what I can tell. It might make more sense to introduce a little backdrop about what has happened to the family right from the onset at the beginning of Suburbia.

EDIT: Never mind. I forgot about the intro, with Frank at the picnic with his family. Still, maybe a little blurb at the very beginning of Suburbia, just to kick things off.

Great game! I've played this for many hours. The lawyers are probably the most evil blood suckers I've ever seen in a video game, good job! :D

And which weapons are you using to grind? I'm thinking about upgrading Tweets, because you usually find a lot of ammo in the nightclub stage.

No! No! No! No! The internetz are mine! All mine!!!

Yes, it was probably too soon to introduce that level. That, along with the continue that brings you back to the beginning may have frustrated some players.

On the normal difficulty level mode (which will be the default mode), player's will have 30% more time, and lower difficulty overall, so things should be a lot simpler in that level.

As for the controls, thanks! I iterated over and over, until I had something that allowed for muscle memory to kick in. Eventually I still want to do a customizable GUI, particularly because I'd like to play the game with no GUI at all (after a few tens of hours you can do that).

    Thanks for understanding :)

    Fully agree.

This post brought a smile to my face :D

The cheesy look was by design. This was meant as a parody. The fact that the last level was a bit more serious is the oddity in the game (we had another funny enemy to introduce in there, but he never made it because of design issues).

Before any more changes, I'll have to see how sales hold up (or not).

Thanks! All my lawyer friends laugh their heads off when I tell them that they were the inspiration for this enemy. Then they think a bit and some ask "Really?" :D

I usually grind without even knowing I'm grinding. I turn the music off, put some classical music in the background, equip the katana and the minigun, and I have some fun :)

Haha! You know, I'm an old school gamer, I've been playing video games since Atari 2600 and I don't think I've ever seen an enemy more annoying than the lawyers. Your friends can be proud, I guess! :D

Great idea! I hope my old iPodTouch 4G can handle it, though. The loading times between the levels are already very long. Then again I'm using the HD version of Fangz, so I guess it's my own fault. ;)

By the way, I never thought I would say something like this, but I love your daughter's screams! Probably my favorite grinding weapon so far. Pure blood sucker destruction. :D

First update content - ETA: May 15th

    Hi,

These are the changes that I'm planning for the first content update. I hope to have finished all these changes by the end of next week. Here they are, ordered by priority (some of them may get postponed to later updates):

    - Difficulty levels (settable in settings screen): Kid, Casual, normal, hard(current difficulty), insane, god

Kid: level time doubled, no vampire lunging, vampire energy halved, timers for attack in vampires doubles

Casual: +60% in level time, no vampire lunging, vampires with less 30% energy, timers for attack in vampires increase 40%

Normal: +30% in level time, no vampire lunging, vampires with less 15% energy, timers for attack in vampires increase 20%

Hard: Difficulty and time as is right now.

Insane and God: I'll up the difficulty up to a level where I can barely pass in insane and where even I can't finish it in god, with the current available upgrades. I'll tighten the timers in Insane but I won't change them in God.

    - Satmina bar for jumping

    - Quit button for Android

    - Train/untrain for stats (so that you can reallocate XP points at will)

    - Campaign reset option in the settings screen

    - More levels for all current stats. Each new upgrade will require 2 brains

    - New perks:

    - Pig wings: Will allow you to increase the maximum number of air strikes Frank can perform with a melee weapon (3 brains per level)

    - Ninjutsu training: will allow you to diminish the stamina Frank expends when jumping (3 brains per level). When maximized, Frank won't spend any stamina when jumping.

    - Points'r'us: will allow you to buy points with XP (brains)

    - Rambo training: will allow you to increase the damage Frank inflicts to vamps.

    - Upgrades in plasma gun will make recharging faster
    - Plasma gun charging sound volume will be increased

    - Change count down beeper to something less annoying

    - iCade support

    - more achievements (still to decide on those)

Because of the difficulty levels, and to keep things fair on the score boards, I'll adjust the points/kills given as stated below:

    - Kid: 1/3 kills per kill. 1/3 of points gained.
    - Casual: 1/2 kills per kill. 1/2 points gained.
    - Normal: 1 kill per kill. Same points as now.
    - Hard: 1.5 kills per kill. 1.5 points per point.
    - Insane: 2 kills per kill. 2 points per point.
    - God: 3 kills per kill. 3 points per point.

Please do comment. Next week I'm going to close my self in my office and try to get everything done by the end of the week.

    Cheers,
    Alex

Is cloud syncing working for you guys? My iPhone's progress is not syncing with my iPad (before you ask they're both the same version, Fangz HD). I know iCloud is buggy as hell, is there a way to force syncing?

The high loading times in 3gs, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4 are due to the high number of textures and the high volume of data I have to load for the animations.
I'll probably be able to optimise that, but it implies that I fully redesign the animation system, which means it won't make it into Fangz.

As for the scream, well, it fully reflects the fun I had doing this. Doing this game was one of the best rides of my life. Everyone at home was involved in this game, and we're all very very proud of it :)

I'm adding a debug button to try to track down these issues with some players. iCloud is a mess for some people.

Yeah, I rarely have a game on both devices, last I remember with iCloud support is Punch Quest and it never synced properly for me.

Anyway I 'synced' it using DataDeposit (free Cydia app that uploads save files to Dropbox, very useful for me especially in Chaos Rings 2 which I uninstalled like 5 times on my iPad due to space/boredom but wanted to continue playing weeks later, wouldn't have finished the game without it lol)
