And in the previous sentence I used, I said the game was unbalanced for just a part of the audience.

So, people beside you are able to beat the game and easily pass the level where you're stuck at, and that has nothing to do with your current skill?

Don't you think you're being unreasonable here? So every game where you get stuck in a level is unbalanced because you got stuck there. Doesn't everyone else count too?

I remember you complaining because you were stuck at the lawyer boss, saying that the lawyer boss was the most unfair boss you had ever found in your life. Was that assessment true?

In this thread there are many people that loved the feeling you get when you beat a level with a sliver of health, that appreciated the fact that the game is as is. Are they all wrong?

Agreeing that vampires lunges are unfair was a logical consequence of agreeing that taking energy due to jumping was not the best of design decisions. By agreeing to the latter, I'm basically saying that the only way out of the vampire lunge is something that's not well designed. Therefore I'm wrong. It has nothing to do with "reviews rolling in" (three so far that mentioned that?). I consider that I'm wrong, because the majority of people, even those that enjoyed the game, mentioned this could be improved.
Look at this thread and you'll see that the suggestion of a stamina bar came way before any of these latest reviews.

It's with sentences like "If you would open your eyes" that I feel things are becoming more personal. I don't want to go down that path.

It was already perfectly clear to me that you like Fangz despite its flaws and it's the only reason why I keep on discussing with you. If I felt you were merely bashing and not providing valuable input I would ignore you. But I'm learning from you and I appreciate that very much.

Difficulty levels + stamina bar + stopping of lunging attacks in kid, casual and normal difficulty (they'll continue in hard (the current difficulty), insane and god difficulty levels) should balance the game for you. If not, I'll be around to hear your input.

I'm aiming normal mode to fit with an audience where you'll hopefully fit it.

  2. Congrats on winning game of the week! And hopefully we shall see icade joystick support soon!

    :D

The iCade core is arriving at my friend's house in London in April 30th, then a couple more days to Portugal, and then I'll do it.

Until I am actually doing something wrong, then I see no need to stop talking about this. This is a forum, right? If there is a problem, then a moderator can approach me.

If anything, my comments have been the best thing for Alex. They are going to make his game better. I guarantee it.

Finally buying this game tomorrow! :)
Questions: how many weapons are there? I've seen pistol, shotgun, and light saber. And how do upgrades change the weapons and your character?

    @Sumo
Have you played Demon's Souls or Dark Souls? I wasn't into fantasy RPGs or difficult games, but I was intrigued and now I love them. These are games that are very polarizing. Many consider them fair but stern, every of your many deaths are a lesson and usually due to the player's mistake

Yet just as many (critics and public alike) call the games unfair, unbalanced, full of cheap deaths

I'll be able to make a more informed impression of the game tomorrow but I see the same divide here. The majority of the TA community love the game and its difficulty, while another majority (you, others, reviewers) have a very different perspective

I enjoy hard games and can't stand how most games these days just hold your hand and when it gets too tough you can just buy yourself out of it with lame coin based IAP and sadly that's how a lot of mobile games are design to do to suck the player dry...damn vampires. Anyways, I enjoy the challenge of this game and I don't mind some grinding, but I'm feeling I'm grinding a bit too much now...still trying to get pass level 7 and feeling the need to upgrade some weapons. Still I think the difficulty is fine in the game, I'm just not liking the constant grinding as much.

So, you're admitting the game is unbalanced.

Let me reiterate: I am able to beat the game. I chose to stop playing campaign due to annoyance.

No. I'm being reasonable and logical.

The lawyer boss was different. That was a matter of discovery. The gameplay--overly aggressive lunging attacks, jump health deduction, unreasonable timers--are things out of the control of the player.

Let me answer your question with a question: Do you think the player should always have the ability, when they play their best, to be able to complete a level with taking no damage?

I enjoy the game. I suggested to you that the jump health loss was questionable at best. I suggested that the vampire attacks were cheap. However, with me, you claim it is my skill level.

No kidding. I suggested it (I'm not sure if it was suggested before me or not). And then after I made this suggestion, you said it would be too complicated to implement.

I returned what I perceived as personal attacks with a personal attack.

Listen, if I were to snap my fingers and have the game that I would like to play, I wouldn't add any difficulty levels. I would do one of these two options: 1) I would leave the lunges exactly as they are and completely take away the jump health deduction. -OR- 2) I would keep the jump health deduction and alter the vampire lunge attacks. Having that type of lunge and a health deduction from jumping is a double negative. You are going to lose health in BOTH scenarios.

Or a third option is to add a stamina bar and slightly alter the vampire lunges. That would probably be best. Again, extra difficulty levels are not what I am concerned with. I have no problem with the difficulty!

:D The funny thing is, Alex and myself are arguing over points that we pretty much agree on. He just isn't seeing it.

Coolness, thanks. I plan on starting a developers thread for icade by then, so keep a look out for it. Take care.

Funny how I am taking so much heat for voting for Fangz though for the game of the week.

That's not funny at all, they're right in saying you shouldn't vote for a game you haven't played.

I voted for it because I found it great, although I gave up on it until the timers go away, I played it quite a bit and enjoyed it immensely. Wouldn't vote for any game I hadn't played.

You seriously don't understand what's wrong with voting for a game you haven't played? How on earth does this proposition even merit debate?
