I say in that sentent "when all else fails". If you only jump when there's no alternative, you should be fine. The perk is not to be seen as cheating at all, but as an alternative means to surpass a difficulty. I'm adding it because I understand that the jump mechanics may hinder progress for some people. And when someone tells me not to listen to someone, I become more interested in what that person has to say. Thanks! You need to upgrade your stats (strength, stamina, speed and firepower) in order for the BUY button to appear. These stats are the first thing that appears on the warehouse, and you need to tap the TRAIN button on each of them to increase them. You are a very very tough customer I absolutely love the fact that a site that doesn't usually mention games like these mentioned Fangz. I could have made Fangz a much more watered down experience, but I chose to link it to current events and to make it a gamer's game, and it's nice to see that recognized. Thanks!
If only I was in situations where there was no alternative less often Will the perk be applicable to each difficulty setting and not just the easiest setting? I would very much like to play the hardest difficulty without the jump health deduction. EDIT: Oh, and does the Plasma Gun have less charge time with each upgrade? (I only have it upgraded one level so far). This would be nice, as I feel it takes a little too long in between firings.
The perk will be offered in all difficulty levels. I sincerely hope you don't try to take your own life if you start playing in the hard difficulty level I'll adjust the plasma charging time as it's being upgraded (I don't think I'm doing that now).
You let me be able to jump at will, I'll be just fine The light saber noise could be louder too, in the same vein as the Plasma Gun charge.
"For instance, your one defensive manoeuvre - jumping - ludicrously depletes your health with every leap. That makes defence near-impossible when your health is low - and if ammo is scarce, too, you're effectively screwed. Suddenly, survival is a game of luck rather than skill, which, when combined with a restart system that takes you back to the very beginning of each three-part stage, can prove incredibly wearying." Yes, they sure did. Sound familiar?
SumoSplash, are you working at PocketGamer? As all reviews, this one is the personal view of the reviewer. He tends to view things like you do, but the majority of people on this thread don't. Meanwhile, Fangz continues to slide through the charts, which tells me that the majority of the market tends to agree with your view. I guess it's easier to give in to the market, and make something most people love, while forgetting the fringe gamer market. But the hard path is so more interesting... Hopefully I can widen the audience sufficiently, so that Fangz recovers. That will take me a while, but I've learned some valuable lessons in Fangz that I'll apply to Fangz 2 (if I don't go bankrupt first). BTW, I left a comment at PocketGamer's site that reflects my view of their review. Cheers, Alex
He obviously didn't play very far into the game. (There's no boss in the third or fourth stage for example). The fourth level doesn't have three parts. That confirms the reviewer never completed the third level. . . . Why bother reviewing a game that you have barely played? 6 out of 10 is too low. I know the game is not perfect, but I feel that score should be higher. . . . Hopefully Touch Arcade will get their review right. I really hope casual games (like Nimble Quest) getting good reviews, and less casual games (like Fangz) getting low reviews, doesn't become the trend.
It's currently at #170 in the US. It's holding better in other markets, but I'm seeing a downward trend. My hope is that it stabilises and provides a steady income for some time, so that I can reinvest in another game. I already got some offers from major publishers for my next game, but I'm trying to avoid it until I can, because I would most likely have to compromise on some topics.
I think you'll come to learn that it's normal for something to peak then tank hard. Regular updates and multiplayer will extend the life of it. Up to you what to risk investing time on though... good luck regardless. Bear in mind a lot of stiff competition was launched within the last few weeks and this week.
Yes, that's also my feeling, that he didn't give Fangz enough time. I'm hoping that TA reviews the game, but if they don't give it enough time, then I'm hoping they don't review it Curiously, the reviews and ratings I'm getting in Android are way better, but the sales are a fraction of iOS. I already have a new feature planned for Fangz 2. When you fire a single shot, all vampires will run scared and all you have to do is tilt your device to the right, while touching to pick up coins I'm also considering reading the microphone input, so that you can scream to kill vamps.
Yes, sure, it's normal, but neither "The Other Brothers" or "Fangz" are exactly normal, are they? (BTW, I loved your game ).
I left a comment at PocketGamer saying just this. Hopefully they'll admit the mistake and won't refuse to review my next games
Do you really think this reviewer had hours of extra time that it would take to make it to the end of this game? I've haven't finished campaign mode and I spotted the imbalances of the game within 15 minutes. Hmmm
Your imbalances = perfect gameplay for most people in this thread. And for someone who said he's had enough for two or three times, you sure seem to keep on being interested in the game (and playing, from what I see on the highscores). For the 100th time, I'm making some tweaks to Fangz to widen the audience. The current difficulty level is just too hard for your current skill, but rather than admit that, you just call the game imbalanced. Your notion of balanced will be someone else's notion of boring. Can't you grasp this simple concept? I've certainly understood your points and I'm trying to address them, but you seem to be intent on calling this game imbalanced just because it doesn't fit your skill and/or playing style. Heck, Fangz is probably going to be game of the week, competing against titles from large multinational companies (with your vote, which I found odd, given all the complaints). Please, before continuing the bashing, allow me to try to address your points. You've been very vocal and articulated about them, and I'll do my best to address them, without compromising my vision for this game.
The PG review said you start over every segment from the start? Completely false, myou only have to restart when there are timers, otherwise you go back like 20 feet! The absolute only complaint I read that holds water to me is the jumping penalty. I will flat out say its a design flaw, It should detract from a stamina bar, not your life. Then if u run out of stamina should detract from life. This adds a limit to number of jumps while also making them effective at doing their job, wich is getting you out of harms way. I see the idea behind the design, but its just too detrimental when I'm trying to save every sliver of life. Simple fix to me is difficulty levels. An easy and normal choice, normal being the same, easy having no jump penalty and longer timers. I've long beaten, had my fun and deleted this awesome game to free up space but I still like to comment here to help out if I can and be nosy.
ok just beat lvl 5 then 6 was easy then lvl 7 holy crap no even close ! looks like I need a better gun, what do you guys recomend? All i been using is basicaly my shotty, reveolver, sub machine gun and a katana. What should I get next?
i would also like to say that im trying to beat this game before the patch comes to make easier, because I enjoy a good challenge... I also feel this game is the quality of a psn title that sells anywhere from 10-14.99. I also hope a big site reviews this game and actually plays it so then it becomes a massive hit. just to think if this your is first game and the quality is this fantastic, think of what his next game will be like.
