Just got my copy yesterday, and I am having a blast! I am finding it different enough to Fallout 3 to be interesting and reasonably fresh. I have only had one crash and got stuck once (much the same 'bugginess' as 3).

I think with the DLC I will probably wait until an "ultimate edition" or the like comes out, then sell my current copy.

Yeah with Fallout games I have to have the DLC day one. Glad you are enjoying the game! It is distinctly different from 3 enough. The weapons are a lot more military and western. It's awesome style.

This sounds like a really terrific game (commercial sold me as well), so picked it up today. Haven't begun yet but I'm actually starting to really anticipate some good gaming hrs.

I don't have New Vegas yet but I love Fallout 3. How does NV compare to it, which one do you guys like better, etc.?

I love Fallout 3, and I am also loving New Vegas. NV has I think (so far at least) a better main quest than fallout 3, but 3 has better radio stations, bobble-heads and the wonderfully bleak and inhospitable setting. They are very similar, yet also quite different: you won't feel like you are creating the same character as you were for Fallout 3, as some skills that were supplementary in 3 are essential in NV and visa-versa. Whether it is worth purchasing is really dependant on just how much you liked Fallout 3 and if you are up for more of (practically) the same.

Thanks for the response. I'm definitely going to pick it up one of these days. Still working through the DLC for 3 and have a long way to go, side quest and exploring wise, before I'm satisfied enough to move on. From reading about it, I like that they implemented iron sights and the ammo customization sounds pretty cool too.

Am not sure whether to go for FO3 GOTY(which is 20 bucks cheaper) or this. In FO3, you have the added advantage of being able to play even after you have finished the main quest.
From what I've seen, the extra things about this game are the Vegas strip, aiming down the sights, Hardcore Mode, and factions.
I don't really care about the Vegas strip, and Hardcore Mode would probably be too hard for me. Aiming down the scope is definitely useful. How much of a role do clans/factions play in the game? Do they significantly enhance the experience?
So FO3 GOTY or Fallout NV? Please keep in mind the price difference, and comments like "Fallout NV cuz it's awesome and addictive as hell" are absolutely useless. Thanks

Well if you havn't played FO3 yet and are interested in it, definitely get it at some point. It's an amazing game that's for sure, and will always have a warm place in my heart. The kmain quest is really short but with all the side quests to take care of you easily burn away the hours before you realize what time it even is. lol. Do you absolutely need to play it before playing New Vegas? Not necessarily. But I would suggest it.

You may not care about the Vegas Strip now, but wait till you get there lol. It's a blast. I'm kicked out of a majority of the casinos for being such a rad gambler. hahaahah

Hardcore mode is a little hard, I am not going to lie. If it wasn't for that 100 Gamerpoint achievement at the end, I probably wouldn't give a damn. I am a bullet hoarder, and thats the main killer for me at least. Staying hydrated can be tedious at times too though.

Aiming down the sights is a great added feature. And the Factions of the game contribute much to the game experience. Especially if you want replayability. There are so many factions all vying for control it's awesome. There are the main "two" if you will, but there are so many that add just as much importance. Like I said, great foir replayability as in one playthrough you may be villified with one faction and may want to see what the perks are for being on their good side.

All in all New Vegas is a great f*cking game, but so was Fallout 3. If you havn't played either, and money is a bit of a problem, maybe wait till New Vegas get's a GOTY edition as well, and go for FO3. You won't be disappointed. But jumping right in to the Mojave Wasteland in New Vegas is certainly a treat for anyone.

Thanks a lot for that post. Screw it, it's just 20 bucks more, I'll go whole hog and get New Vegas :)

the only thing stopping me from getting this game is the pathetic amount of progress I've made in FO3. though I am quite intrigued to run around a post-apocalyptic version of my hometown.

This damn game... it crashes on average once an hour and hard locks my PC every three... yet my save has 90 hours on the clock, I've not yet given up in disgust, nor am I ready to head to the endgame o_0

For those of you wanting a comparison with Fallout 3, I personally found 3 a lot more stable (not hard) but less compelling, and I never did finish it. In fact I never have finished a Bethesda game despite having a reasonable amount of fun mucking around in them, but I'm crazy for Obsidian despite all their flaws, so if you think like me you'll prefer New Vegas to 3.
