One thing that I disliked about the original game is that the "pets" feel completely tacked-on; not only do they take a long time to evolve, they have absolutely no role in or effect on the game itself, unlike the Faerie Land upgrades. I'd like to see a mode or option where each creature has a small effect on gameplay when it is made active, with the effect changing in strength depending on the stage of the pet's growth.
