I'm hoping to release a kids game pretty soon and am thinking of creating a Facebook page for the main character. I have a twitter feed that has my iPhone dev stuff and will also be announcing new release info and promo codes through it, but a Facebook page about just one game might be more appealing to people to people who buy that game - they might just want to know more about that one particular game rather than follow a feed about anything that's on my mind and might not mention news about the game for ages. I think I'll give Facebook pages a go just to see what happens. As the target market for the game is kids aged 0-8, it's the parents that I'm trying to get as fans. I guess if I can offer fun bonus stuff like a desktop (or iPhone?) wallpaper or post on the wall as if it's my game's character writing... then maybe that might make it more appealing? If you've got the time to maintain it, then I can't see why it's not worth a go. Anybody have any thoughts about how to maintain an appealing Facebook page without just replicating the stuff that's on your own website or Twitter account?
I've got a Facebook page for my company and have it linked to Twitter so my Facebook updates get... twitted. We're a new company, just a few months old, and so far we've been using Facebook like a little PR tool. It's not central to our plan, but it's a nice way to keep our main group of friends and family updated so they can help spread the word. Rock Ridge Games FB 297 fans... the 300th will get a nice little prize if any of you are interested (free game).
my 2cents If you have time, id say create a facebook page and slowly build it up overtime. cant hurt and its free marketing! Our is at http://www.facebook.com/CavalcadeGames its only 6 days old and we make Flash, unity and iphone games so we will put the link in all our products going forward,
99Games has been on twitter for quite some time now and we regularly interact with gamers there! Its been great so far! Follow us for a chat. We have a blog as well and regularly post updates about our games. Lot of interesting contests have been conducted by us there. We'll be announcing our new game on it soon. Check it out: http://www.99games.in/blog.html Besides this, 99Games also has a Facebook group. We use twitter a lot more than we use Facebook though. Join us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48737546545 Cheers!!!
Much like anything, what you get out of it, depends on what you put into it. I'm not a dev, but I am a writer (first novel out spring of 2010), and I can tell you that from my experience and my friends, it has helped them quite a bit. Granted it's small press, but by doing things that may be FB only (codes, videos etc), you can get some good feedback, as well as more sales. And it's free, other than the time spent updating it, but I'm finding it very useful building up friends for when my book does come out.
I think having a facebook page can't hurt. I have one running for Thirty One and it has gotten a pretty good response. The great thing about it is you might start to reach a critical mass where friends of your fans start buying the app and then continue to build up your fan base. And yes you can become a fan of Thirty One here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/ThirtyOne-App/96580799117
We are also a bit late to the party like @headcaseGames. But like they say, better late than never So you too can become our Fan on Facebook We feel lonely there so be our friend and become our fan . Tonight is our first night of opening officially our Facebook pages, we started to added content in the photo albums and also added music from our resident musician. See you there!
Add us to the Late section We have Facebook pages for our company and our latest game, Bounce Pop 2. We're also on Twitter. I'm gearing up for our next game's release, but I'm thinking we won't be doing a separate page for it. Between our Twitter, FB pages and blog I think we have enough avenues to get the word out about our stuff. And we don't want to become spammers
I use facebook and twitter. My facebook personal page reaches out to more than my fan page at the moment but it is good to have. Some exposure is better than no exposure.
We actually went ahead and did the Facebook page. It's here. It's only been up less than an hour, but already we have a few fans!
I think it is!! I think it is convenient and works well. Having your company out there on all the popular social networks is a good thig for business. I can upload images and other info straight from my iphone even while I am out on the go. I think it is a good idea. The biggest thing is that you want to be efficient with your time updating and moderating things on the page. No one wants to hang around on their own page waiting for something good to happen. I am a photographer and it works well for me I can upload images that I've just finished and get messages from fans/contacts quickly. I say yes.
Agree with Dylan's comments and everyone above who says it can't hurt to be on the social networks. It does take some time to build up, and Facebook and Twitter are useful for different things (Facebook is more robust and we post up media and contest details, while Twitter is good for short updates).
Hello folks, Just to let you know that I compiled a list of all the Facebook pages people posted and/or that I found around. You can check the thread here : http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=585750&postcount=3
I was actually wondering if its worth it to have a Facebook page. I never wanted to join because I like remaining anonymous. I have a twitter set up for our game and I would think thats enough, but I don't know... Maybe Facebook is good... the more the merrier I guess?
@JoshCM I know Facebook has been know for some privacy issue, but you also have a certain degree of control of what yo want to show to the public. And if you prefer to remain more anonymous you can do what my friend did ;-). He put his nick name as first name and the last name is the name of our company . And his profile photo has been modified too. Which should allow you then to create your page for your game ;-).
We just started our facebook page, a twitter and a blog. We use these two mainly as pointers towards the blog where the real stuff is, but they act as nice reminders to people interested in our game that there is some new info available (and its more graphic than a mere RSS feed). We'll also have facebook/twitter connect features built into the game, but only on a user's decision service: some people (including yours truly) like to brag in front of their friends when they get a highscore and some don't, we respect both stands and thus made it available but not mandatory. Intruder_qcc, I'd really like to know how you got that many followers on your tweet while revealing so little about your game! What's your secret?
Cheese Collect has a facebook page, but I don't think it really helps sales. But like designxtek said, some exposure is better than no exposure.
