I found this rather fascinating. 52 million unique impressions each month? That's absurd! That's nearly the amount of iDevices that exist in the world. The numbers are backed up by the following site (http://appdata.com/), which also supplies graph data to show how the game has excelled in popularity. I am gobsmacked by these numbers. World of Warcraft is, for all intents and purposes, a massive game. However when you break it down to a ratio, only a small portion of people who own computers actually play it. My experience with other Zynga games has been nothing short of unfulfilling. While I don't imagine the success of Farmville is going to last, I am rather intrigued by the future prospects of such a market. Is the sleeping giant known as PC gaming ready to awaken? Is facebook and other social networks the key? It's never made sense to me how there could be so many computers in the world yet the market for games on them was so abysmal. Looks like Zynga is getting ready to have an IPO. This is only going to get more interesting. Here's the stats on how many people play Zynga games each month. they have 32 games.. I feel like I've been living under a rock. lol
all this and yet it's still it hasn't been developed as an app on itunes.it would probably be number 1 for ages as well. not that it's that good.sure it's OK but it's nothing special.
That's why I made Pocket Farm for iPhone. I thought Farmville was fun but I didn't want to play it on Facebook. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=330461322&mt=8
I was so addicted to this game that it became a chore to play. Once it became a chore, I stopped playing. When I saw that there were 50 million players I was stunned. That's just...so many people...
Facebook had over 250 million users in July. http://www.clickymedia.co.uk/2009/07/facebook-reaches-250-million-user-total/ Now has 300 million users. http://www.clickymedia.co.uk/2009/09/uk-facebook-user-statistics-september-2009/
I think it's the social aspect of it. If all your friends are playing, it just seems more fun. It's slightly catching on at my school. I might check it out but I don't see anything special about it.
And they could be infected. Don't touch them. http://www.pcworld.com/article/173072/spyware_sneaks_past_facebook_safeguard.html
I haven't tried it but was surprised to know that even my friends who probably never played any games as far as I know.
thats what happened to me it was fun for awhile but then i was like ugh..i have to harvest..and plow..and re-plant..oh now i have to harvest allll my trees and alll my animals etc. blah too much work especially when you've expanded ur farm all the way lol
The amazing thing about these Facebook games is the people who play them have no problem giving all kinds of money on a daily basis to buy little upgrades for themselves. I've heard from several different people that games like Farmville, Mafia Wars, and the other similar big games on Facebook are making hundreds of thousands of dollars a day. If you have a market of 300 million potential customers, most of which who are more than willing to spend a couple bucks here and there, why would you bother porting your game to a platform of 50 million devices with a customer base that hates DLC as well as microtransactions and makes a huge stink about anything that costs more than 99¢?
