WOW! Just WOW! You can somehow type words onto the screen, but it appears that you are either a) illiterate or b) in denial/ignoring all the reasonable points that have been reiterated again and again. p.s.: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=1209339&postcount=271 thanks for knowing how to read!
Hi, SkyMuffin, not sure to your point except to insult me. No denial/ignoring here, there have been plenty of reasonable and unreasonable points made in this thread, your last post falls into which category? David
I swear to god if ICS Mobile makes one more awesome game free that initially costs developers nothing, I am going to lose it.
Hi again, This comes from one who makes accusations against mods and admins? So are you being reasonable or unreasonable? (Edit: you DO understand that an admin and the mods are entitled to their opinions don't you and that by having an opinion differing from yours is not a decree from above right?) For the record people would pay more attention to your points if you made any other than defensive draw a line in the sand remarks. Vovin has been making valid arguments but you, you just inflame things with your persecution complex. So come up with some real numbers and actually participate in the discussion or honestly you are beginning to look like a troll given your cut and paste replies (heck they might as well be for their content) and your signature even - or the biggest anti-fan boy ever. Facts please or no one will listen and you come across as bitter, an aspiring developer hoping not to have to participate on the program, or a frustrated marketer that is kicking himself for not thinking about setting the program up in the first place. Honestly you have actually helped change my mind just because, whereas Vovin gets me to think. So your personal crusade has failed on me anyway. Have a nice day, NEG
My point is that I have not seen a single argument from you that wasn't based completely in hearsay and sheer opinion. If you had actually read what Hodapp and some of the other users had posted here, it would be pretty clear that FAAD is not anywhere near as bad as you seem to think. In fact, it has helped quite a lot of people, developers included. THEREFORE-- you are either illiterate or simply picking and choosing what you read.
I was initially against FAAD, but now I see it as more of a netural program. There's a chance for success, there's a chance of loss, it's a bit of a gamble. If the developer knows what he's getting into and doesn't just treat it as some kind of miracle cure then I see no problem. They chose to play the game and maybe they'll win, maybe they'll lose, but it's definitely not a scam. No one's being robbed.
Valuable? That means they'd never get to relax and chill out for a while. You don't get anything done sunbathing.
I personally appreciate the service that Free App A Day (and the other free app sites) provides. I don't have a whole lot of money left over after paying my bills so the little bit I do have goes to apps like Monkey Island and Chaos Rings. I rely on FAAD to feed my insatiable need for entertainment. I don't download everything that goes free on FAAD, just the stuff that looks like it might be fun. Sure I have found some dog turds but I still treat every game as if I had paid for it. If I had bought Chaos Rings and didn't like it am I not supposed to say I didn't like it? To me it sounds like most of you want people to like a game solely because an indie dev made the game. Well I'm sorry but if a game is made by an indie dev and it sucks than I'm gonna leave a one star review. I'm not gonna give them four stars just because it was made by an indie dev. And no my feeling do not change just because I got a game for free. Also just so you know I only have two degrees of opinion for games and they are love it (5 stars) and hate it (1 star). Anything in between i just don't rate, there is no middle ground for me.
I paid $30 for a copy of Zombie Land on Bluray when it first came out. I can get it now most places for $10. No it's not Paid vs Free, but it's a similar idea. I've bought an item a month before only to see it drop dramatically in price. I've purchased a phone on a hefty contract only to have that phone end up free on contract a few months later, sometimes sooner. This service is great for devs like Tower Defence, that support their product with back-end DLC. I'm thrilled when I see situations like that because it provides the base model for free and, if people like it and want to KEEP playing it, they can toss some money towards the devs to extend out their stay. None of these services are perfect, I've bought some apps that have then gone free, or that promo codes have been posted, but that's just the way it goes. Sales, Free, Massive Discounts, Clearance - they're marketing. Dealing with more minute numbers like $.99 makes going to "Free" similar to the way it's handled when an electronic store heavily slashes prices on expensive items, sometimes to cost just to move them.
It's not first free from them, there Tron for US store only and few time ago Breakspin. To come back to original subject, I made a list of free from about 3 weeks, it's not all, but a selection, there isn't only top, but I think they are at least good and involved a significant effort, for those with more simple mechanism and graphics I also look at level design and random generation complexity. If a simple game offer also many levels with an obvious careful design I added it in this list. A last point, there's possibly few errors but not much. Also not all come from site like faap but that's a global movement. So it's a list I consider of games that worth quite more than 1$ even if some are in fact 1$ games when they wasn't free. I haven't added the 1$ sales for the same time period and for games that clearly worth quite more than 1$. I list them because make this list concrete tells something else. In fact I quoted the last 2 weeks an important drop down of my buy, only those last days seem have been more calm. I know and totally understand that I'm not a casual iowner but as far I know for games, fans or mid fans like will be typically a user of this forum are a strong buying base.
Very nice, my girlfriend was going on about this game on the phone last night (after I told her to download it). ;D
No. http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ http://www.freeappaday.com/napp.php?id=292 Call of Atlantis is Free
Half a month later and I still find the last app I downloaded from FAAD to be Chop Chop Tennis (which I already deleted anyways). Yeah, I think that road is like a freeway or something. Or maybe it was the World Series of Poker app. If it was, well I'm not downloading something over 100 MB solely because of some unnecessary videos, plus I'm not a poker fan.
I already have poker which is a awesome game if you like Poker. But is this the big thing that was coming down the road?
