I doubt there would be a response on Codemasters own forum as they didnt actually develop this. Was a smaller software house (based in Malta I believe).
Oh right makes sense, well good that you have contact with them to give feedback! Seen the review on this site and think its a little harsh on the AI, yes its not perfect but personally Ive never felt like a crash has 100% never been my fault, part of the challenge in F1 is getting past a driver as fast as possible without colliding or leaving the track and I dont really think the Xbox AI is a huge amount better TBH however I agree the AI needs tightening up with respect to queueing behind each other in corners as often I have jumped 10 places just because the AI has lined up in a row to take a corner rather than taking the non-racing line
Yea I dont think its THAT bad considering. The speed is something it definitely needs to up and I've seen instances where the AI have gone off in the same place every lap like the review said. It sounds to me from the contact I have had with them, that they are very keen to keep improving this, so I'm hopeful. If nothing else, what a brilliant foundation for F1 2017 this is!
I think the review was accurate with regard to the AI if you have the difficulty turned up. I don't think the AI behavior can be defended on the basis that it replicates the challenge of real life F1 racing. In real F1 racing, drivers would never intentionally bump into other cars, except maybe in some rare case where a driver completely lost their temper. This is because the cars are delicate enough that bumping into another car is just as likely to take you out of the race as the other driver, not to mention that it’s against the rules and is likely to get you a stiff penalty. Most contact between cars is either because a driver made a mistake or lost control, or because two drivers are playing chicken coming into our out of corner and assuming the other driver will back off, and neither does. You would never see a driver repeatedly trying to bash another driver off the racing line like the AI does in this game. Also, compared to the console games: I have Codemasters’ F1 2011 and F1 2013 for Xbox 360, and while the AI isn’t the best racing game AI I’ve encountered, it’s much better than in this game. Certainly the AI won’t stupidly keep trying to drive on the racing line even though I’m on the racing line right next to them, like the AI does in this game. A lot of real life passing tactics involve taking ownership of the racing line coming into our out of a corner, forcing the other driver to take a less optimal line or back off. These tactics can’t work if the other drivers will just bash into you when you do that, in real life or a racing game. The way the AI is in this game forces you to either just turn damage off and play bumper cars, or limit yourself to only passing while off the racing line. EDIT: Just thought I'd add that I enjoy a lot of arcade style racing games where bashing into other cars is an intentional part of the gameplay. It's just that Codemasters' F1 games on other platforms have leaned a lot more toward being realistic simulations, allowing you to use real-life racing techniques, so it's a bit disappointing that the AI in this game doesn't let you do that. This is especially true since in this case it doesn't seem like it was an intentional choice to make this be a car combat style racing game, but rather it's just a very simplistic AI implementation.
I must have been lucky with the races or be more forgoving then as I have had then as I can't say I have ever had a situation like you describe, as mentioned I have only ever crashed/collided with another car when I have been forcing an overtake and, to my mind, either the AI has held its line and I didn't leave enough room or I have lost control at that point and the collision has happened - similar to Spain this year for example, Hamilton and Rosberg colliding because Rosberg didn't leave enough room and Hamilton lost control. Never been hit from behind or driven off like you describe hence why I thought the review was a little harsh It does need tweaking tho to make it harder, id like to see more defensive driving when I am trying to overtake and generally the AI to lap quicker in a race like it can do in qualifying, its almost too conservative in the race compared to qualifying and so is a good 5+ seconds slower I find
Using Perez at Russia, I won the race and finished over 25 seconds in front of Hamilton (8 lap race) - this was on highest difficulty, all assists off apart from racing line. If the AI gets properly improved, this will not only be the best racing game on iOS, but one of the overall best games. Its just incredible technically really. Please fix the AI!!
F1 Newbie! I'm new to F1. Occasionally watch on TV but don't follow the sport, teams or drivers. Can someone rank the teams/drivers from strongest to weakest? I'm hoping the choice of team/driver can be used as a way to adjust the difficulty of the game. And I will learn a bit about F1
Thanks!!! Does the game seem to follow the rankings? So if I choose Team Mercedes (top 2 spots on the list as of now) will the car be faster, handle better etc? Or is it just cosmetic in the game?
The cars are faster and handle better. The team selection screen is more or less ranked in order of car power (so Mercedes -> Ferrari -> Williams -> Red Bull etc)
Thanks again I started taping the Info button for the teams and drivers and came to the same conclusion based on wins etc. Good to know the cars drive differently as well.
Enjoying the game and using Beginner Touch for now. I'm a big F1 fan and have been for over 20 years, but one thing about this game is annoying me (outside the AI). Is there a way to disable the way the car is drawn to the racing line like a magnet? It almost makes the car feel like it's on rails.
Worth It! I am a huge fan of F1 racing in general and playing racing SIMS. Although this game is NOT the most realistic when talking physics, it is very enjoyable. I have all assists off, steering sensitivity turned all the way up, I use tilt steering and the above driver's head view. My only complaint is the ridiculously easy to beat AI's. CM has stated that they will improve this aspect with soon to be released updates.
Yes to all... I caused a yellow flag warning when an AI spun me in a turn as I tried to pass. I play with damage at FULL. Tires wear out too, requiring pit stops.
I would like to see a mini game that players can play while cars are entering the pit lane. If you play the mini game well, your pit time is lower.
Same settings here, except sensitivity not all the way up. Really enjoying this. For me it's the best F1 game released on iOS
