Downloading now. Will leave imps in a few. tehvar Member Jun 12, 2012 6 0 0 #3 tehvar, Feb 29, 2016 Thoroughly enjoyed this game from start to finish. The game is 100% free and was an absolute delight to play. Gameplay mechanics are interesting and challenging enough to keep you playing. Although not super difficult, it is just hard enough to feel satisfying. The story pushed me through from start to finish without stopping. I don't remember when the last game had me this interested. I hope to see more content soon. I would recommend this game to anyone! Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #4 Nullzone, Feb 29, 2016 Absolutely seconding what tehvar wrote. I went through the whole game in one go, really kept me hooked to see what's happening next. The game mechanics are deceptively simple, but there is a short learning curve to figure out what works best. Game graphics do their job (well, you only see your population as small blobs, so there isn't anything fancy to be done on that side). The cutscene panels are absolutely beautiful though. I really want to see more of those, would pay big bucks for an artwork book without blinking The game does teach you a few simple things about how a population interacts with its environment, e.g. the consequences of over-exhausting your habitat by cutting down all trees for wood. And I really liked the various tidbits of (historical) information and anecdotes/quotes you can see via the Achievements. @xrubio: You should contact schools about it, would fit in pretty well as educational game on the subject. xrubio Member Feb 4, 2016 17 0 1 #5 xrubio, Mar 1, 2016 @tehvar and @Nullzone thanks for taking the time to write about the game We have lots of ideas for additional content, but we'll have to see how this release goes before deciding on what to do next. We are in contact with people doing research on education, so we were lucky enough to test an alpha version of the game with teachers and students and get some feedback to adjust the game mechanics and tutorial. We would definitely love to see schools using it as an educational tool! Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #6 Nullzone, Mar 1, 2016 Fingers crossed then that all goes well One small nitpick I just remembered: On the level start screen, you have those symbols in the bottomleft corner. I assume they represent the possible achievements (if not, no clue what they mean). Would be nice to see an achievement description when you tap on them. xrubio Member Feb 4, 2016 17 0 1 #7 xrubio, Mar 1, 2016 The icons indicate the type and number of goals for each mission. Nice suggestion, we'll add this to the next update! ludka33 Well-Known Member Jan 12, 2013 217 0 16 #8 ludka33, Mar 1, 2016 Really enjoying this so far. Each level (that I've played, only on 3 now) is a fairly quick playtgrough... 5 minutes tops. Which is nice for short mobile gaming sessions. The requirements are straightforward and easy to understand, while there is challenge and strategy to completing them. Where this game shines, though, is in the artwork and cutscenes. The little blurbs that connect the bots to humanity and their evolution are interesting and keep me wanting to see the next phase. I'm really enjoying this so far! ludka33 Well-Known Member Jan 12, 2013 217 0 16 #9 ludka33, Mar 1, 2016 If I may ask: why free? I'd gladly have plunked down a couple bucks for this. No ads, no iap... You deserve fair compensation for this little gem. xrubio Member Feb 4, 2016 17 0 1 #10 xrubio, Mar 1, 2016 Thanks @ludka33. We got a small budget from a science dissemination program, so we felt that giving the game for free was the best option to increase its visibility...but we can always put some ads if you prefer it ludka33 Well-Known Member Jan 12, 2013 217 0 16 #11 ludka33, Mar 1, 2016 Or even an iap "tip jar". I think you'll find a lot of people--here especially--are happy to give a little to indie developers who offer quality product for free. Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #12 Nullzone, Mar 1, 2016 Last edited: Mar 1, 2016 Heh, just put in the right ads, like for a trip to the Barcelona Supercomputer Center or CERN/LHC Jokes aside, it's great that you give out the game for free. But I'd definitely include more info on the background. Best would be to put it all on your homepage and add a link to the game's main screen: Add a button "More Information", which takes you to an ingame screen with a brief overview and a link to the homepage where you have more info. There, have more background info text; plus links to the Simulpast page, to the BSC, your team's page, etc. Easy access to further information is always good, even more so for use in education. @ludka33: I vaguely remember that Apple no longer allows tipjars, but couldn't find anything on it with a quick search (review guidelines https://developer.apple.com/app-store/review/guidelines/#purchasing-currencies don't mention it). ludka33 Well-Known Member Jan 12, 2013 217 0 16 #13 ludka33, Mar 1, 2016 Well, that's lame. How about an "unlockable skin" iap? Where you can change the planet color to hot pink? # Brunner Member Feb 18, 2014 13 0 0 #14 Brunner, Mar 1, 2016 Ok, reading these comments make me feel like a blubbering idiot. Love the first 7 levels, but getting my tail kicked by the short timeframe you're given on the 8th. Still it's the first mobile game to do that and still have me coming back for more in a long time so that's impressive in and of itself. Great game and anyone that's reading this should make sure they check it out. xrubio Member Feb 4, 2016 17 0 1 #15 xrubio, Mar 1, 2016 @Nullzone you are right that the webpage doesn't have a lot of info about the scientific context (it's in the presskit). We could add it...we already did this in the game, as there's a section inside the credits. xrubio Member Feb 4, 2016 17 0 1 #16 xrubio, Mar 1, 2016 Sorry to hear you are stuck! We are planning to upload a mission-by-mission walkthrough in the youtube channel during next weeks to avoid possible frustrations. Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #17 Nullzone, Mar 1, 2016 I actually read the whole credits Yes, there's a mention in there, but that's about it. Color me stupid, but I cannot find your presskit on the www.evolvingplanetgame.com homepage. Nor one of the usual "Contact Us" and/or "About Us" pages. If you don't want to make that info public, that's fine of course. But if you aim for more publicity, adding those is a must. I've seen quite a few studios who have their presskit available for download on their homepage. Good move, makes it easier for journalists, so I'd add that as well. And include a dedicated press contact on that page too. @Brunner: Give me some time to replay mission 8, and I should have a few hints. xrubio Member Feb 4, 2016 17 0 1 #18 xrubio, Mar 1, 2016 Yep, the link is public. Nullzone ð® Spam Police ð Jul 12, 2013 3,669 79 48 Male #20 Nullzone, Mar 1, 2016 Mission 8 Walkthrough @Brunner: Here you go, let me know if it helps. For the first Goal to reach the population limit: - Trigger the population growth booster - Put your points into Resistance, it's enough to get it to 2 right away. - When you start, immediately move up north into the forest. This terrain apparently increases survivability. - When you have enough points, increase Resistance to 3, then 4. --> Goal reached. 2nd Goal: - Move east to the Goal Marker. - Immediately trigger the mobility boost. - Increase Influence (or Warfare) to 2/3. - When your population starts to fall, trigger the growth boost again. --> Goal reached. 3rd & 4th Goal: - Don't beeline through the desert to Goal #3. Instead move up north first, then east. - Trigger the speed boost; growth boost only if needed. - I upped Influence to 4, and Warfare to 2. Upon completion, I had Warfare up to 4 as well (but it's not needed). - Keep moving east towards the last Goal. - Trigger speed & growth as needed. --> All done, should win with 3 Stars.
