This game literally DECIMATES my 5S. It's scorching after 5 minutes of play and it destroys over 15% of my battery in a single mission
Battery and heat are okay so far on my iPad Air. What bothers me more is that Epoch2 (and other games) now crash regularly, which they did not on my iPad2. Assume the fact that 64bit needs more RAM hits here.
Does anyone have all intercepts? I am still missing two, and have Normal and Timetrial completed for all stages, but none of the Hardcore levels yet. I played all Normal levels repeatedly until they no longer gave intercepts. The Helper Drone works great for Timetrial, by the way. Really good for taking down fast-moving targets like enemy drones.
I'm experiencing major lag in iPad 3. It worked like butter before, but something happened that I'm experiencing 5 FPS... It starts out okay but progressively worse, until up to 0 FPS... Is the A5X that weak? I'll post a video soon.
Hhmm, mine must be the odd man out then I never had any problems after upgrading to 7. Even games like Lili, IB3 or Horn ran perfectly fine. Aside from XCom, most games actually run worse on my new Air. E.g. Epoch2 suddenly crashes rather frequently, which it didn't on my iPad2. Memory issues due to the switch to 64bit (seen this mentionend in several places already, but don't have anything "official" yet, e.g. a review from a major magazine or site which says so). @Uppercut_Ed: If I didn't send you the crash reports by end of next week, mind sending me a reminder?
Sure thing. There's a few people reporting crashes on Air/5s, and we'd love to know what the hell is causing it because we can't reproduce it on our devices
Boy, reading all these comments makes me happy I got an ipad 4 now, seems so many games still having problems with the ipad air, 64 bit cpu, and thankfully at least for now, even framerates seem best on it. This game really runs well on it, framerates are rock solid, and the special effects that I didn't see before on my ipad 3 are a great addition.
A bit offtopic: @Connector: I thought for about two weeks on whether to get an iPad4 or the Air. What won out in the end is the overall better performance of the Air, crashes or not. And, don't laugh, the reduced weight. The difference a few hundred grams make is huge. My first thought when taking it out of the box was "hey, that's a fake, weighs nothing"
Yeah i compared the weight of my air to my 3rd gen ipad and the weight difference is significantly noticeable. I dont think the heatups are an issue. Not for now at least. It just means it is working as intended to push higher quality outputs on the ipad's screen. EPOCH.2's faster paced action compared to IB3 is proof enough that with same graphics quality levels, EPOCH.2 will be demanding a bit more from the hardware. And honestly, i have NEVER had any crashes on the ipad air so far since i got it. Not once. Personal trivia: I got the ipad air 128gb for the price of ipad mini retina 128 gb.
EPOCH.2 has crashed a few times on my 5s. It seems to occur when there's a lot of action. It crashes and all progress during that level is lost. Very frustrating. I have a file called LatestCrashUDKGame.plist under the Diagnostics and Usage section of Settings. Is that any good to the developer?
Definitely that's a crash dump: a snapshot of the state of your system at the moment of crash. The iOS ones do not include full RAM dumps, because that would fill up your SSD pretty fast. Best is to sync to iTunes on your PC/Mac, and send the .plist file(s) via email from there. Stupid enough, Apple does not provide a direct "email this" option for them on iOS. I tried to copy/paste them into a mail: something you do only once. It's a huge pain because they conveniently forgot the "select all" option as well.
Ok. I got hooked on Epoch and went double credits. Epoch has been sitting in the someday play queue since I mixed it up with Archetype thinking I had to be always online. I got Epoch2 on sale but haven't installed due to lack of space on iPad and my right hand is sore. I still have a ways to go in E1, but does anyone have ergonomic tips for playing to save my hand for E2? Ambidextrous ? Shoot with index but move with another finger? I'm starting to target with my left thumb to assist the right. Also I'm thinking maybe I'm firing too many rounds and should do more cover-plink-cover than frantically exhausting a full load. Loving this game!
@gcl: I have RSI myself, so I need to be careful. I play the Epochs with right hand only mostly, using my index finger to aim, swipe, etc. I use my right thumb as well for certain things, namely swiping up or right. Alternating fingers like this helps. When I have the iPad propped up (e.g. on a table), I sometimes use my left to aim or swipe, too. Holding the iPad and playing for longer than a few minutes is no fun for me, it hurts. With Epoch your hand shouldn't cramp or anything, if you are a bit careful. Pay attention to how you move your hands and fingers: e.g. I found that when I play lying on the bed, with the iPad propped up, I tend to nastily bend my left hand to reach things in the lower and upper left corner, which is not good at all. Moving the complete hand instead takes longer, but does not cause stress on it. And "cover, shoot, cover" is a neccessity, same goes for "shoot, move"
Thanks for the tips, Nullzone. I haven't beaten E1 OGRE after 2x tries. Time to rest. I hate slicers.
E1 Ogre isn't that hard, actually. Take some time to learn its attack patterns; bring the timeslow extra, stun or slow grenade, and a good weapon that it is weak to. The electric one worked well for me. And noticed yesterday that I switched to mainly using my right thumb and didn't even really notice anyways, works well, no pain at all.
Hey folks, we're still working on the next update for EPOCH 2 In the meantime, we're putting EPOCH 1 on Steam Greenlight, so if you like the idea of a PC version (with fully converted controls to suit the platform & improved graphics), then please give us a vote! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=213280579
Any chance we'll get customizable graphics settings to reduce heat up on new devices? And woah, that's pretty cool. You've got my vote! Hopefully PC gamers won't moan about it being a mobile game as usual
Just had two crashes tonight on my ipad mini retina. I see it created two plist dump files. Does the developer want these if I can get them in email?
