I don't understand why anyone would consider a keyboard for the iPod/iPhone. The screen is TINY. iPad with a keyboard, sure. But the iPhone?

Why lose sleep over it. It's just a minor feature. If you don't like it, why rant? This will be handy only on certain situations when you are near your computer and you need to write a long SMS to someone. You don't have to use it if you don't want but the fact that its there is better than nothing.
