Not quite right. Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Mod Nation Racers, Gran Turismo, God of War Ghost of Sparta, Monster Hunter, Resistance: Retribution, ... There where great games in the last 1 1/2 years Of course way less releases as in the app store, but the app store games aren't as full & rich as the PSP games, quality over quantity
Phantasy Star Portable 2? One of the best online RPGs I've ever played and by far the best on any handheld to date. It was amazing when I played the Dreamcast original back in 2001 and it's just as amazing a decade later. 100+ hours of quality PSP gaming right there.
By "new" I don't mean "new game", I mean new like in "there is no previous game with the same name". I agree sequels or series can be good and I appreciate some of them, but I like discovering something I never saw before and the App Store is great for this. There are gamers who are one the App Store for the cheap prices, others for quantity, others for innovation, others just because they like playing. The 1st & 2nd won't move on NGP and 3DS, the 3rd & 4th will have a look at them because the 2 devices have interesting features and the series they liked on old gen devices. The only thing which can kill iOS gaming is the devs themselves, so I hope they'll continue to support the Store
So basically you're admitting there are good games on the PSP, you just don't want them because... you've got some weird vendetta against games with "2" in the title.
I think each systems have their merits. I have already preordered the 3DS and will probably preorder a psp2 if it isn't too expensive. Then I will do what I do now with my ds, psp, and ipod touch, just rotate through them.
I haven't played my DSi in a while. The last time I played it was to play Super Scribblenauts, a game which would have a suitable home on iOS, and I'd like it better for it simply because I'd always have it with me so I'd have played it more. For portable gaming I've pretty much shifted entirely to my iPhone. I'd love to try the 3DS, but I don't need to buy one right away. Once Paper Mario 3DS is out I'll consider it more. That game will sell the system to me... at least once it hits $200 (or preferably less.) $250 is just way too much. But I do love Paper Mario 1 & 2. To be honest, though, I'd rather have a new Paper Mario game on my iPhone, not that that would ever happen.
I may have just changed my mind about purchasing an NGP I just read it will have a non removable battery and to me one of the PSP's biggest advantages was being able to pop a new one in or replace it easily. In a phone that lasts a year or so I can tolerate a unit sealed battery although I still really don't like it but on a device that you want to last at least 3 to 5 years this is a deal breaker. Shame I was excited about this device but now I'll probably avoid it I never liked the idea of a rear touchpad either if I'm honest it seems stupid but everything else was very promising.
You'd buy a new iPhone every year? Steve really has got you guys wrapped around his finger, hasn't he?
He does, but it's because their making a great product. Having said that, I won't buy every year unless AT&T keeps offering early upgrades in order to keep me away from Verizon. Mind you, I'll probably stick with AT&T anyway, but I like them to think I'd switch. I did buy my iPhone 4 a year after my 3GS, but that's because of that early upgrade. I'm not sure they are going to offer those again, though, so I guess I'll be waiting for the iPhone 6....
I'm surprised how much more popular the NGP is than the 3DS, fair enough it looks like a beast of a machine but that will all go to waste if its not well supported, that was the problem with the PSP, most of the big name games were just money making, and lackluster, attempts relying on their console counterparts to get them sales (I'm looking at you EA). The DS had original and fun games mostly due to inventive use of the touch screen, and fantastic first party support of course. I'll take the 3DS thank you, it comes with the nintendo guarantee of great first party games. Ill always use my ipod touch for pick up and play games though
So I'm at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where everyone else is getting these hands-ons and got to spend some time with the Xperia yesterday. Overall, it seems kind of cool, but I have absolutely no idea how it is that Sony has fooled itself on any level in to thinking people will buy this. I mean it seemed like almost everything they're doing with the device is wrong. They had jack shit to show off on it too, and first impressions basically amounted to "Oh hey, some 6+ month old Gameloft iPhone games with physical controls, cool, I guess" What's even more puzzling is the Verizon thing. I could see myself vaguely being interested in the device if it were GSM and I could just swap my SIM around between my iPhone and the Xperia... But Verizon? Much like the Ngage, the Xperia didn't seem to me like it would be a very good phone, but could be a competent gaming device. Swapping around is basically impossible with Verizon unless you feel like calling and doing an ESN swap whenever you felt like playing games and/or going back to your real phone. I was really, REALLY hoping that it would be a killer device, as I'd love someone to give Apple a kick in the ass to make them step up their game a bit but this isn't the device that will do it. :\
Not forgetting the bit where you have to re-buy all the PSN store content you've paid for before. I've spent a few hundred on there over the years and there's no chance I'm doing it again to play the same games on a phone. That was the nail in the coffin for me.
Yeah that's ridiculous. I really thought something that Sony could potentially do with this generation that would make competitors stop and say "whoa, wait a minute" is some kind of system tied to PSN where you buy content once and can play it on multiple devices linked to the same account. I.e. a downloadable PS3 game that also can be played on the NGP. PsOne games that can be played on all devices, etc. What will be the true nail in the coffin for this device is because of the reasons I mentioned in my previous post, it will likely never have a large enough install base for any developer to actually dump substantial money in to really cool exclusive content. Is Squeenix going to pump out a bitchin' multi-million dollar budget Final Fantasy game for a device that only a few US Verizon customers own? Hell no.
I didn't think about the sim card swap idea for the (non-existent) GSM Xperia. I might actually have bought one if it had that (and it was a real PSN device, and tied into your PSN account - I don't have a PSN account nor any games on it, but I'd want to be able to play any games I bought on some future PSP or PS3. Duh.
I say iGaming will live on forever I have no doubt that the psp2 and 3DS will have amazing games that are better than anything in the app store. What igaming has going for it, is affordability. A game could cost from 1 dollar to 10 dollars in the app store, good quality, the length of the game is shorter than what psp or 3DS would have vs. an amazing console quality game lots of gameplay hours and better graphics for 40 to 50 dollars. For that kind of money I rather buy the console game and enjoy it on a big screen, over playing it on the go.
