I didn't see any discussion on this when I searched, so I thought I'd throw it out there:

    Embargo $1.99 AppShopper link

Has anyone looked at this one yet? Is it any good? I'm a fan of Sid Meier's Pirates, not sure if this is anything like that.

I saw this awhile back, but it didn't interest me.

    Nice find.
I am a big fan of Sid Meiers Pirates on the PSP, but sadly, there have been no App Store equivalents yet. It does look good, but from what I can see, it is just another sea battle sim, like 'Warship' and doesn't included any land or trading.

I actually tried this a few days ago. Note that I did not write a review. ;)

It's strictly two warships out at sea, and you can pick from a variety of countries to represent and the flag will on the ship. The game is a bit one dimensional in that its two ships going after each other. The controls are strictly tilt for steering and specific buttons for port and aft cannon shooting.

There's a camera view that will zoom in on the ships and the pirates as they laugh which thankfully you can turn off. The pirates "Arrggghh!" gets kind of annoying after a while, at least for me.

I tried to get into it but after a few battles, it was kind of ho-hum for me. I'm sure others may like it...it just wasn't for me.

Are you trying to tell me something about my reviews? :p

The 3D graphics are decent, and watching a ship on fire is interesting. The gameplay though can get repetitive quickly. It's a 3 on my meter, but the potential is there is they want to expand this a bit with a resource management aspect.

Yeah, judging from the crappiness of their tennis game, I think I'll pass on this one. A port (pun intended!) of Sid Meier's Pirates would be great though. I could see the simple top-down view and the controls working very well on the idevice.

Hahaha. No, I'm just calling it a short review since your reviews are usually a page long so this is "A short review". :)

    Agreed.
My brief time so far does not have me too excited.
To call it a NAVAL BATTLE game is a stretch. Maybe A naval ship confrontation game?

    U.K.
Looks interesting, poor choice of colours having the ship the same blue as the water, other than that awaiting reviews! ;)

ooh i like the sound of that B.A.M.

Now Albie just needs a nice graphic to represent 1-5 like a cold-hot meter with colors.

    Game: Embargo
1 on 1 ship combat game.
    3 levels of difficulty

    Controls:
Accelerometer controls to steer your ship.
2 fire buttons to fire aft(left) and starboard(right)

    Description:
You steer your ship left and right and attack another ship in a 1 on 1 confrontation.
It’s a Ship game so it battles move very slow (after playing real racing I feel like I’m a snail on the ocean) where you fight till the end!
I have played Level 1 eight or so times and have not been able to beat the first ship. It’s a bit of aiming and luck. If you don’t get your first couple shots in its DOOM.
The game has become a little more fun as I get used to the controls but I know it’s not long for my iPhone.
There are upgrades but I have not accessed them yet. I’ll get back to you if I get that far.

    Graphics:
Graphics are OK. I like the water and fire effects.
The camera is not the best, It takes many swipes to rotate the view around your ship. The cut scenes that happen every time you fire get annoying really fast. They do get better, the more accurate your shot is but half the time you are looking at your own ship firing the cannons instead of the enemy.

    Sound:
Sound is ok. Nothing special or horrible to report.

    Depth:

Other than upgrades to your ship which I’m not sure alter game play that much, there does not seem to be a whole lot to offer in this game. If you like ship games this may be for you, otherwise use caution.

Green Light Jerky Rating: YELLOW LIGHT - USE CAUTION.

Thanks for your feedback on this game. Albie's (mini on this occasion) review is helpful as ever but everyone's comments are useful. I think I'll pass on this. An iPhone/iPod port of Sid Meier's Pirates, on the other hand, now that would be great :)
